October is over, done and for!

Here's the results:

1. Who will score the most points in October?
Eric Staal (Carolina) 9+13 = 22 points

2. How many points will Crosby have by the end of October?
2+12 = 14 points

1 point to Minty, for getting the closest (and within five points radius).

3. How many points will Jagr have by the end of October?
12+9 = 19 points

Octavian was the closest, but still seven points away, which is too far to give points for. Sorry buddy. :(

4. Who will win the MVP of the Month award for October?
All I see is weekly awards... I'm putting this on hold, maybe I'm just not looking from the right place.
Minty Edit: It was Staal who was awarded the October Offensive Player of the Month ;) Nobody in the world let alone TBL guessed that one! (-Minty)

5. Which team will be leading the Western Conference by the end of October?
Detroit Red Wings

6. Which team will be leading the Eastern Conference by the end of October?
Carolina Hurricanes

7. How many points will Pittsburgh obtain during October?
5 points

I was the closest on this one, but my answer of 9 points is a bit too far from the actual number, so let's set it to three points while discussing teams. Five for players points. Yes... Making rules as we go. :D

8. Who will be the first goalie to post a shutout?
Roberto Luongo (Florida)

9. Who will be the first player to score a hat trick?
Marc Chouinard (Minnesota)

10. Who will be the first player to score five goals?
Daniel Alfredsson (Ottawa)

11. Which team will take the first shootout win?
Ottawa Senators

Current Points:
Davey - 1 point
Minty - 1 point

Sorry for the somewhat chaotic organizing-ment, but we didn't come think of the difficulty of hitting the predictions exactly on the mark. Plus my a** is hurting from this chair, and I really wanna go home now. :D

Here's a rundown of why we made the selections we did for this month:

Young Star Spotlight: Eric Staal - Staal was a 2nd overall pick in 2003 and has been said to be taking the 'Crosby/Ovechkin' talk as a bit of personal motivation coming into the year. People are certainly talking about him now. As of November 1st he leads the NHL in scoring by three points over Jaromir Jagr (and has played two fewer games!) with 9g 13a for 22 points. He's scored 7 points in his last two games and was recently named Offensive Player of the Month. And no, nobody here guessed that one last month!

Star Spotlight: Bryan McCabe McCabe, now in his tenth NHL season has been putting up points that would make most forwards jealous, as a defenseman. Currently with 15 points (3g 12a) in 12 games. All of his goals and seven of his 12 assists have been on the powerplay.

Player to Watch: Changed to Todd Bertuzzi See description below...

Team to Watch: Nashville Predators People who haven't seen many games this year might say "Who?" and/or "Why?" in response to this choice. The Preds however began the season by winning their first eight games. They've only been beaten once in their first 10 games with a standout defense, one of the leagues top netminders in Tomas Vokoun (2.51 GAA, .920 Sv%) and a new dynamic duo of Steve Sullivan (previous season's trade deadline) and Paul Kariya (free agent).

Speaking of making up rules as we go should we push the points to 30 or 35 since Staal is three from our 'who will be first to' mark?

Good point! :D

Edit: Nevermind, what I had typed here (something about the phrasing)...

I changed it to 35. :)

Whelll  It was my choice to get us another player of interest to project; and Nash would have been interesting however it's not interesting or difficult to predict a guy's stats when he'll be on the IR for the whole month at least  ](*,)

So... for those of you who have posted already you can just edit your posts or just repost as we'll have to swap out Nash.

So change #4 to "4. How many points will Todd Bertuzzi (Vancouver) have by the end of November?"

Here's the writeup:

Player to Watch - Todd Bertuzzi - Two NHL seasons ago he finished second in the league in scoring, second only to his linemate Markus Naslund. With 25 PP goals he scored more goals on just the powerplay than many forwards did for the season. Well publicized events have taken him from being the leagues most feared power forward to being one of the leagues most jeered players. With just 11 points in 13 games so far but only two goals, what will November hold in store for number forty four?
