If you really want to minimize shot against, I'd start by minimizing PK time. I've had games when I take 3 or less penalties and gave up less than 20 shots against. Keep in mind that doesn't necessarily translate to fewer goals against. Really drive you crazy when you see Luongo gives up 3 goals on 18 shots and get a 6 rating.

PK is one area I really haven't refined my tactics on. I keep them very basic but I also run a very offensively minded team, so it's hard to really tell how effective these tactics are. This is what I do...
Tactical Settings:
Very Def.
Aggressive
Hard
Very Tight
Heavy
Hard
High
Safe
Normal
Often
Tactical Systems:
Positional
Positional
Positional
0-4
0-4
Tight Box
Basic
Overload
I'm betting some tweaks here and there could help this tactic out.

Try adding PK training from 20% to 25%.Franck wrote:Still suffering from the same problem.Franck wrote:I need some help with setting up a good PK tactic, currently 4 last in the league at PKing with a Rangers team that otherwise pretty much rapes the league.
What settings should I use to get more out of my penalty killers?
Anyone?

I'll usually go with PK training at 30-40% for a month with PP only at 10% and the rest in General. Then after a month or so, I'll switch PK and PP.Tasku wrote:Try adding PK training from 20% to 25%.Franck wrote:Still suffering from the same problem.Franck wrote:I need some help with setting up a good PK tactic, currently 4 last in the league at PKing with a Rangers team that otherwise pretty much rapes the league.

I'll try that out.bruins72 wrote:PK is one area I really haven't refined my tactics on. I keep them very basic but I also run a very offensively minded team, so it's hard to really tell how effective these tactics are. This is what I do...

Currently at a terrible 78.9 PK% so any increase would be very good.

You might also want to make sure that your defensemen aren't set to join the rush and if you really wanted to take it further you could have your forwards not join the rush either.
I've just switched up that tactic I gave you. It's really only a couple small tweaks. I've changed Gap Control to "normal" and switched the Tempo to "slow". I haven't been using these new tweaked PK tactics long enough to say if it's made an improvement.

I have thinking, why my PP% is so low as 10,9%. Last year it was 19% and only thing what I changed was that I replaced Demitra with Tavares in second PP line.. I think
And in last year I even used sometimes 4 forwards in my PP lines..
How you guys set PP lines, when you have tons of techical skills, blueline skills at defence (lowest slapshot is 16) and pretty much speed (at least 15 points at every player) in forward and in defence?
The thing what I need most is to make d-mens to score goals more.
Line ratings are pretty much even in both lines 1st/2nd
Offence ****/****
Defence ****/***
Speed *****/*****
Skill ****/****
Toughness ***/***
I have setted Off. Zone for 1st line 1-2-2 and for 2nd diamond
I also use in Off Faceoffs Drop Pass tactic.. and have setted my best blueliners to shoot.. well they shoot much, but don't get any goals.
It is because of my lack deflection?
First line players have good Deflection points around 15-20, but in 2nd line best deflection is 13.
Good thing in this is that our PK% is much more higher than ever.
Then we go in to the practice.. I have defaults in practise areas.. have been for last 4 years.
Should I rise my PP practise or is here something else?
My team has remain quite a bit same for a long time..
I have no courage to do anything.

I would suggest changing your Off Faceoffs to Point Shot if you want your defensemen to get it. You could also set your defensemen's Shooting to Barrage. Then pick 1 forward to be a shooter and set his Shooting to be either Selective or Very Selective. Make sure he's got a high Wristshot rating. Then have your other 2 forwards set to passing. You could even switch up your Offensive Zone. I like to use Funnel.

in my 2007-2008 year my Yotes team seemed to just be unable to do anything on the PP, we finished with a 9.8% and i think thats why we missed the playoffs this year. Couldn't figure out a line that would work on the PP. the lines are
Boynton-Warrener-Wellwood-York-Vrbata
Morris-Michalek-Grabovsky-Kaigorodov-Doan

The first defensive pairing with Boynton and Warrener seems to be the key problem.
Both aren't an offensive threat at all and you really need offensive talent on the powerplay.
Try the following setup for the first pp-line:
Morris - Michalek - Doan - York - Vrbata
If these five will refuse to score on pp maybe you will have to change some tactics.
Good luck!

My Penalty Kill Suck !
So I've tried everything I can think of yet, my Portland Winterhawks PK is currently sitting at 79.8% which is 18th in the WHL.

Okay...now that I have moved this to the correct thread (which was only 4th on the list of threads) please read the entire thread and there are a ton of PK strategies/tactic thoughts listed.
We moved this post of yours avesfan because we like clean boards. please post tactics questions in the tactics thread.
This game has been out for two years...there are a ton of threads with info. If you have a question....guess what? After 2 years it has been asked before in most cases, and will have a thread.
Also..check out the knowledge base for some tactic suggestions.

Ok, I am using diamond PP and have my LW and RD set on barrage and shoot, rest set on passing. Here's is my layout:
(LW)Ovechkin(R)
(C)Brind'Amour(L)
(RW)Kovalev(L)
(LD)Rafalski(L)
(RD)McCabe(L)
Ovechkin has a Slap rating of 19 and McCabe has 17. My playmaker is Kovalev (Creativity 17 and passing 17). All but Ovechkin and McCabe are set to normal passing and Kovalev set to creative. The tempo is set to low.
My PP is currently at 12% and falling drastically. In the last 3 games I've went 0-22. My team draws alot of penalties, usually 5-8 a game, so the oppertunities are there, just can't capitalize on any lately. I mean it wasn't a major issue until last game where I lost 1-0 to the Devils, but I had 11 powerplays. I mean even 1 PP goal would have at least netted me a point if I lost in OT.

Merged the pp help topic into here as it is a tactics question that brought this old pp help thread back. No issues with the poster, he looked and found a thread. Well done! Just a little tidy up on my part!!!!
Have a look through this whole tactics thread...and there are other pp suggestions too. I have found diamond does not work for me at all.
