If Kölzig number will be retired, anyone know could he be the first German player who's number is retired?

I don't remember any German players, who's number is retired, maybe Uwe Krupp, but i'm not sure.

I believe he would be the first, the first born in South Africa as well. Looking at this list, there aren't many that are outside of North America...

Yeah, he was first African-born NHL-player, so he would be first African-born NHL-player who's number is retired, but if i checked that wikipedia's list right, there's no German players, so Kölzig would be first. That could be nice!

Manny Malhotra goes to San Jose Sharks. He made one-year-contract.

I say Tavares or Leino.

I'm guessing Tavares just because he'll probably get a lot of minutes with the Islanders. Who else for rookies is expected to make their team?

Artem Anisimov has been impressive in the pre-season
The Rangers will also have at least one rookie defenseman. Sanguinetti, Gilroy or Del Zotto.

Matt Duchene got a good chance too, i also think that if Brendan Schenn make the L.A. club, he will be in the list, he show some good things in the training camp.

Did Filatov play a few enough games to still qualify for the Calder this season? I can never keep the requirements straight. If he is still eligible for the Calder, he's got a good chance at it. He's got skills!

Just read in my local newspaper that Pat Burns has another cancer.......it's a lung cancer this time and it's incurable.

He lost 57 pounds now and he decide to stop is treatment. He said : '' It's done. This would not change anything, it's just matter of time. I know it's a fight, but it's not gonna go with improvement.

I think it's really a bad news, he got so much left in the hockey world, in is life.....he said that he still want to scout for the Devils.

He is very persevering. Hope that he will go well and when his time will come, it would be fast adn i don't want him to suffer, he got enough of this now. My wishes go to him.

Calder trophy will go to Filatov, Tavares, Hedman or Matt Duchene. I don't think Leino would won that trophy albeit he's got hands and he can play in first line and make points. Leino is 25-year-old and his birthday is in 6th october so he is 26 in next spring and Calder trophy agelimit is 26 so it's quite sure that he wouldn't won that trophy. Tavares and Duchene are my favourites. Hedman and Filatov are Europeans so it could be little surprise if winner comes from outside of America (even Alexander Ovetshkin's won was surprise to me

I read this article online yesterday too. I don't think Pat Burns contracting a 3rd type of cancer is new news. The new part is that he's done all of the treatment that he can do and he's not doing anymore. Also, he's been doing special scouting assignments for the Devils and I guess he's been spending some time in Florida and was looking forward to meeting up with everyone when the Devils played the Lightning but because of his health and H1N1 Flu concerns, he can't be around large groups of people.

The whole this is just a shame. Burns was a great coach (one of my favorite Bruins coaches) and from all that I've read/heard he's also a really good guy. To fight cancer and win, not once but twice, is one heck of an accomplishment and hopefully something that will give hope to others with cancer. It's just such a shame that after all of that the man is stricken again with a third type of cancer. He's fought a very good fight though. I'll miss him when he's gone.

I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that Leino just makes the cut for Calder qualification on his age. It's something to do with when his birthday falls. I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure I read that.

Scoring on your first shot in the NHL isn't bad. And a hat-trick in your rookie year can't be bad.

He only played about 10 games...

Yeah, he is eligible, but i mean that i don't think that he wins trophy cause usually Calder trophy winners are between 18 and 22.

They don't have to be though. It might be more common that it's 18-22 year olds that are in contention for the Calder because those ages are more common for a player to be entering the league. But I think if some player who is eligible for the trophy but was older than 22 came into the league and put up a ton of points, he'd be given the trophy. I don't think they'd hold his age against him if he were still eligible.

With the Wings top six forwards, it is unlikely that Leino will get enough minutes to make a serious run at the Calder. Plus watching him in the late reg. season and the few playoff games he was in last year, he never jumped off the ice at me The way Ericsson did. If Ericsson continues to play the way he did in the playoffs, he could make a serious run at the Calder.

After Rick Nash was robbed back in 2003, I would like to see Filatov have a great year to give the fans in Cow-Town something new to be excited about. It still seems a travesty that Barret Jackman was deemed a better rookie than Nash.

Extensions to contracts:

Alain Vigneault make 3-year-extension to his contract with Canucks.

Milan Hejduk make one-year-extension to his conrtact with Avalanche.

That's nice, hope he can play good season this year, he was my favourite player few years ago.

Dave Tippett is new head coach of Coyotes. Very good deal to take off Gretzky from head coach role and he can still continue in team.

Last years weren't easy to him.

The Flames release Theo Fleury. Too bad for him, i was hoping he could have a chance with the Flames, i hope another will be interest in is services.

At NJ the Devils got a deal with Rob Niedermayer, there was rumor about him going to Russia but hopefully it didn't happen.

I wonder if it might be better for him that he doesn't play? He's obviously sobered up and got his life on track at this point. What's to say that his old lifestyle on the road and playing in the NHL might lead him back down the path that got him in trouble in the first place?
