Cam Neely and a 1st round pick for Barry Pederson. That first round pick became Glen Wesley. Let's play name that moron GM.

As a Rangers fan it's not so surprising ;) . But rivalries or not, Islanders has made lots of good trades... just not for themselves.

Yup! Sure did! I had a serious dislike for the way Harry Sinden ran the Bruins for so long but that was the greatest thing the man ever did. That was legendary!

Yeah, that one was pretty bad!
I was pretty gutted about that trade. Thornton was such a big player for the Bs. I really didn't see what was in it for us - and still don't :dunno:
It was a dumb trade. Mike O'Connell knew that he had to get rid of Thornton. It just wasn't working out for him in Boston. He was talented but didn't have the other qualities the Bruins were looking for. So O'Connell wanted to trade him. Unfortunately, O'Connell jumped the gun and took the first deal out of the conference that he could get. I really didn't hate the fact that they traded Thornton. I just hated the return they got on him.

bruins72 wrote:How about Cam Neely and Vancouver's 1st round pick (which turned out to be the #3 overall pick which the Bruins used to draft Glen Wesley) to Boston for a declining Barry Pederson. To add to this, Glen Wesley was later acquired by the Hartford Whalers and the Bruins got 3 first round draft picks from them. One of those players they got with those picks, Jonathan Aitken, was a dud, but the other 2 picks got them Sergei Samsonov and Kyle McLaren. If you follow the way the Bruins kept turning over these assets, McLaren eventually helped them trade for Nathan Horton (McLaren+ for Jillson+, Jillson for Brad Boyes, Boyes for Wideman, and then Wideman+ for Horton+). Samsonov also netted the Bruins a 2nd round pick (plus a couple players) which they used to draft Milan Lucic.

So that Neely for Pederson and a 1st round pick was really the trade that kept on giving. 8-)
Wow that's amazing! We've picked up some really strong prospects over the past couple of seasons.

What about the Tuukka Rask trade? That was a steal from the Leafs! Thanks to that trade we have two very strong goaltenders.
Getting Rask for Raycroft was huge! Most people agreed on that before Rask even made it to the NHL. Toronto just doesn't know how to trade.

Speaking of Toronto... what about Kessel for all those picks, one of which became Seguin?

philou21 wrote:I totally agree with you B's but I still think Colorado is more a hockey place than Phoenix, SJ, Anaheim etc....For sure the Cup in the first year help alot though. It would've take maybe a couple of more years before been really popular if it's wasn't for that.

For the Roy trade, I think about that too. If they didn't got everything for Lindros, I doubt the trade would've been made. They trade Thibeault for Roy and Thibeault was the first round pick they got in the Lindros trade.
In all fairness, if the Avs were still in Quebec THIS TRADE DOES NOT HAPPEN. I think I remember an article in etiher Th ehockey News, pretty much explaining how Lindros refusing to play for the Nords won the Avs the Cup in 96.

Not really a trade but Mikael Granlund had a contract of 12 hockey sticks with Oulun Kärpät before he signed with HIFK. There was much drama in that move. :-D

Boys are boys, so maybe he would have played pool instead of ringette.

Sorry to keep bringing up these old posts (I've kind of taken over the forum here), but the wackiest trade of all time in pro sports was likely baseball's Harry Chiti.

In 1962 he was traded from the Indians to the Cubs for future considerations. After a little while (not sure how long), the Mets agreed that these "future considerations" would be Harry Chiti himself.

Final trade line: Indians trade Harry Chiti to Mets for Future considerations (Harry Chiti)
