2007 J.Ross Robertson Cup Playoffs, Conference Semi-Finals



April 6th, Game 1

The IceDogs return home to the Gatorade Garden City Complex to play host to the opening game of their Conference Semi-Final series with the Sudbury Wolves. Mark Visentin stopped 36 of the 38 shots he faced, and though Sudbury led 2-0 going into the third period, the IceDogs scored three third period goals to take the victory!

The IceDogs travel to the Sudbury Community Arena in Sudbury, Ontario to play the third game of their series with the Sudbury Wolves. Mark Visentin stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced, and though Sudbury got out to an early lead, the IceDogs would scored four times in the final frame to secure the victory!

The IceDogs remain on the road to play the fourth game of their series with the Sudbury Wolves. Mark Visentin stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced, and the IceDogs got out to an early 2-0 lead, and though the Wolves scored late, they couldn't find the equalizer!

First star honours would go to Niagara IceDogs goaltender Mark Visentin, who stopped 22 of 23 shots in the victory. Third star would go to Niagara IceDogs center Freddie Hamilton, who recorded two assists.



The Niagara IceDogs eliminate the Sudbury Wolves, defeating them 4 games to 0!

April 21st, Game 3

The IceDogs travel to the Yardmen Arena in Belleville, Ontario to play the third game of their series with the Belleville Bulls. Mark Visentin stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced, and though the IceDogs scored the first three goals of the game, the Bulls scored three third period goals to force overtime, and Bulls winger Samuel Schutt was the hero in overtime!

Second star would go to Plymouth Whalers center J.T. Miller, who scored a goal, and an assist. Third star would go to Sarnia Sting center Ludvig Rensfeldt, who scored a goal.

April 23rd, Game 4

The IceDogs remain on the road to play the fourth game of their series with the Belleville Bulls. Mark Visentin stopped only 7 of the 11 shots he faced before being pulled in favor of Chris Festarini, who stopped 12 of 13 shots the rest of the way, as Belleville dominated the first two periods, but three third period IceDogs goals was not enough the complete the comeback!

#2 (West) Sarnia Sting vs. #2 (East) Niagara IceDogs

In 2 regular season games Sarnia outscored Niagara 8-7, as the teams split the season series 1-1-0!



To get to this point Sarnia had to eliminate the #7 Owen Sound Attack, #3 Kitchener Rangers, and #4 Plymouth Whalers, while the IceDogs had to eliminate the #7 Brampton Battalion, #5 Sudbury Wolves, and #6 Belleville Bulls!

Mark Visentin stopped 18 of the 20 shots he faced, and Niagara scored three straight goals to start the game, and held Sarnia off the rest of the way!

The St. Louis Blues have signed IceDogs defenseman Brock Beukeboom to a 3 year contract worth $450K per season, and he has left the team!



May 7th, Game 4

The IceDogs remain at home to play host to the fourth games of their series with the Sarnia Sting. Mark Visentin stopped 31 of the 35 shots he faced, and as the game neared five minutes of the third overtime, Ryan Strome finally slipped the puck past J.P. Anderson for the victory!

The Saint John Sea Dogs eliminate the PEI Rocket, defeating them 4 games to 0! The Saint John Sea Dogs have won the QMJHL Presidents Cup, and will represent the Q at the Memorial Cup in Vancouver!



May 10th



The Seattle Thunderbirds eliminate the Kootenay Ice, defeating them 4 games to 2! The Seattle Thunderbirds have won the WHL Presidents Cup, and will represent the WHL as Champions at the Memorial Cup in Vancouver!



May 11th, Game 6

The IceDogs return home to play host to the sixth game of their series with the Sarnia Sting. Mark Visentin stopped only 23 of the 29 shots he faced, and though the IceDogs led 3-2 going into the third period, the Sting would score four times in the third to take the victory!

Mark Visentin stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced, and though Sarnia tied the game late in the third, IceDogs winger Mitchell Theoret scored with seconds left to make the IceDogs J.Ross Robertson Cup Champions!!

The IceDogs play in the opening game of this season's Memorial Cup, playing the WHL Champion Seattle Thunderbirds! Mark Visentin stopped 35 of the 37 shots he faced, and though the score was tied 2-2 going to the third, Ryan Strome scored twice in the third to give the IceDogs the victory!

The IceDogs announce the completion of a deal with the Sudbury Wolves. The IceDogs send the rights to defenseman Brent Forsythe to the Wolves in exchange for center Mathew Campagna.

Brent Forsythe was the IceDogs 4th Round Pick in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection. Forsythe played last season with the Chicago Mission U16, where in 50 games he put up 25 (7+18) points, and was -5 with 85 penalty minutes.

Mathew Campagna played in 59 games for Sudbury this past season, putting up 32 (15+17) points, and was +3, with 90 penalty minutes.

The OHL has released their 2007/08 Season Schedule today, and the IceDogs will open the season at home, playing host to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors on September 22nd, the Brampton Battalion on September 24th, and the Sudbury Wolves on September 29th.

The IceDogs announce the signing of winger Daryl Biron. Biron was the IceDogs 7th Round Pick (138th Overall) in the OHL Priority Selection. Biron played this last season with the North York AAA Rangers of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, where in 48 games he put up 33 (21+12) points, and was +5, with 42 penalty minutes.



July 6th

The IceDogs announce the signing of defenseman Roger Cote. Cote was the IceDogs 5th Round Pick (87th Overall) in the OHL Priority Selection. Cote played this past season with the Kanata Kings of the Ottawa and District MHA Midget League, where in 50 games he put up 56 (18+38) points, and was +3, with 85 penalty minutes.



The IceDogs announce the signing of goaltender Jomar Mulock. Mulock was the IceDogs 9th Round Pick (173rd Overall) in the OHL Priority Selection. Mulock played last season with the Scarborough Ice Raiders of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, where in 50 games he put up a 36-6-8 record, with a 2.50 GAA, and .907 SV%.

The IceDogs announce the signing of overage goaltender Joel Vienneau. Vienneau played last season with the Sarnia Sting, where in 15 games he put up a 5-6-2 record, with a 2.81 GAA, and .873 SV%.

The IceDogs announce the completion of a trade with the Kingston Frontenacs, sending the rights to Swedish center Alexander Barkov to the Frontenacs in exchange for Czech winger Petr Beranek, and a 2nd Round Pick in the upcoming OHL Priority Selection.

The IceDogs begin their American Tour, travelling to play the Plymouth Whalers. Joel Vienneau will get the start in goal for Niagara. Joel Vienneau stopped 17 of the 20 shots he faced, and the IceDogs scored four goals in the first period, and Plymouth never managed to catch them!

IceDogs training camp opened today with physical fitness testing. Reporting to camp in the best physical shape were winger Petr Beranek, and defenseman Broderick Kelly, while winger Tyrel Vincent, and goaltender Chris Festarini left something to be desired.

Team Red defeat Team Blue 4-3! Best performance was put in by center Francois Semenov, with honours also going to winger Joel Wigle, and defenseman Roger Cote.

Team White and Team Green battle to a 3-3 draw! Center Artur Gavrus, and winger Daryl Biron were the best players on the ice.



The IceDogs open their training camp at home, playing host to the Ottawa 67's. Joel Vienneau will get the start in goal for Niagara. Joel Vienneau stopped 33 of the 39 shots he faced as the IceDogs were dominated at both ends of the ice in the loss!

Russia vs. Finland

Finland defeat Russia 4-0! First star honours would go to Finnish goaltender Richard Ullberg, who posted a 30 save shutout. Second star would go to Finnish winger Miikka Salomaki, who recorded an assist. Third star would go to Finnish center Alexander Barkov, who scored a goal.



September 6th

Team Red defeat Team Green 4-1! Best performance was put in by winger Mitchell Theoret, with honours also going to winger Roch Van Onlangs, and center Francois Semenov.

Team White defeat Team Blue 2-0! Best performance was put in by tryout center Pierre-Andre Nobel, with honours also going to defensemen Shayne Rover, and Neal Graves.



Finland vs. Czech Republic

Finland defeat Czech Republic 3-2! First star honours would go to Czech defenseman Dusan Hasek, who scored a goal, and an assist. Second star would go to Finnish defenseman Ville Pokka, who recorded two assists. Third star would go to Finnish center Alexander Barkov, who recorded an assist.



Sweden vs. Russia

The Hockey News released their OHL Season Preview, and the Niagara IceDogs (Team MVP: D Jesse Graham, Key New Face: C Francois Semenov) were ranked 19th out of the 20 OHL Teams!

The favorites to win the J.Ross Robinson Cup this season are the Kitchener Rangers, though the Windsor Spitfires should give them a run for their money! The Belleville Bulls and Guelph Storm should be solid contenders, while the Sudbury Wolves and Niagara IceDogs are expected to struggle.



The IceDogs announce the signing of defenseman Courtney Bell. Bell was the IceDogs 12th Round Pick (238th Overall) in the OHL Priority Selection. Bell played last season with the Markham Majors of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, where in 50 games he put up 35 (12+23) points, and was +8, with 74 penalty minutes.

The IceDogs announce the signing of center Pierre-Andre Nobel. Nobel was the IceDogs 11th Round Pick (218th Overall) in the OHL Priority Selection. Nobel played last season with the Markham Majors of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, where in 50 games he put up 31 (16+15) points, and was +12, with 94 penalty minutes.

The IceDogs announce the signing of defenseman Rusty Watson. Watson was the IceDogs 14th Round Pick (278th Overall) in the OHL Priority Selection. Watson played last season with the Capital District Selects of the Eastern Junior Hockey League, where in 60 games he put up 34 (14+20) points, and was -19, with 76 penalty minutes.

The IceDogs announce the signing of winger Julien McNeely. McNeely was the IceDogs 13th Round Pick (258 Overall) in the OHL Priority Selection. McNeely played last season with the Markham Junior Waxers of the Eastern AAA Hockey League, where in 50 games he put up 25 (17+8) points, and was -6 with 58 penalty minutes.

There are no longer any tryout players in camp, all players are under contract.

The IceDogs open their season at home, playing host to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors. Chris Festarini stopped 14 of the 17 shots he faced, and though the IceDogs scored early in the second period to tie the game, the Majors would score just seconds later to take the victory!

The Groups were drawn today for this years World Junior Championship, and Czech Republic drew into Group B with Denmark, Norway, Russia, Sweden.



The IceDogs travel to play the Sudbury Wolves. Chris Festarini stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced in the game, and though the Wolves scored first, the IceDogs scored four straight goals, and Sudbury never caught up!

November 17th

The IceDogs return home to play host to the Kitchener Rangers. Chris Festarini stopped 34 of the 37 shots he faced, and though Niagara scored early, the Rangers responded with three unanswered goals to claim the victory!

First star honours would go to Kitchener Rangers center Radek Faksa, who recorded two assists. Second star would go to Kitchener Rangers goaltender John Gibson, who stopped 29 of 30 shots in the victory. Third star would go to Kitchener Rangers defenseman Max Iafrate, who recorded an assist.



November 18th

The IceDogs travel to play the Erie Otters. Backup goaltender Joel Vienneau will get the start in goal for Niagara. Joel Vienneau stopped 28 of the 32 shots he faced, and IceDogs winger Ryan Horvat scored twice in the final minutes of the third period to force overtime, but the Otters went on to win in the shootout!

First star honours would go to Victoriaville Tigres center Carl-Antoine Deslisle, who scored a goal, and two assists. Second star would go to Russian defenseman Alexsandr Uvarov, who scored a goal, and an assist. Third star would go to Sherbrooke Phoenix winger Aidan Kelly, who scored two goals, and an assist.



November 23rd

The IceDogs return home to play host to the Belleville Bulls. Chris Festarini stopped 26 of the 30 shots he faced in the game, and though the IceDogs scored first, four unanswered Bulls goals gave them the victory!

First star honours would go to Edmonton Oil Kings center Michael St. Croix, who scored a goal, and two assists. Second star would go to Red Deer Rebels center Curtis Lazar, who scored two goals, and an assist. Third star would go to Moose Jaw Warriors defenseman Morgan Rielly, who recorded three assists.
