I am sort of stuck in between seasons 1 and 2. I have to cut down my salaries to under the TBL cap by amount 10 million! I am looking at moving out a combination of Aucoin, Visnovsky, Hannan and Tucker to do this. I have signed two UFAs as allowed- Mika Noronen as backup goalie and Jason Blake, who was injured for most of year 1 so I got him for under a million. I simply have way too many players and prospects in my club, especially on defence. I have no idea who will be my core/homegrown guys yet. This is gruelling...

Sorry about posting again but a quick update for you. I have traded away Hannan to the Isles for 2 second rounders, just had to be done to cut salary. I offered Aucoin around to all teams but not takers due to his contract I imagine, so I waived him. He cleared waivers.

I have released Aucoin, and because no one else has the cap space to sign him he is sitting there untouched. He asks for 3.5 mill a season, I am offering 1.6.

If he signs, this will be brilliant, I just hope no one else gets the cap space to intefere.

Just want some clarification - could I use Ryan Parent as my homegrown player? He is 20 years old and has obviously never played in the NHL. I signed him on 9th May 2007. Is he eligible? My first choice would be Ryan Wilson, but seen as I drafted him I guess he is ineligible.

2007-2008 HG must be on the roster at the start of the game
2008-2009 HG must be signed before 2007 draft

So no, you can't use Parent as a homegrown in 07-08, but you can use him as a HG in 08-09, provided he won't have more than 25 NHL games by then.

The start of the game meaning someone who started on the Hawks roster. Looks like I'm stuck with Bickell!

I read the rules thoroughly this time and my understanding of it was that it could be anyone meeting the criteria signed before the 07 entry draft. Anyway, i think the only HG eligible players from the Hawks roster/system at the start of the game are Bickell and Brophey plus all the rights I own.

I have traded everyone who was eligible to be my HG for year 1 except for Bickell. Thats OK, I'll use him, although it's not what I had planned for.

But for year 2 I can use Parent and the other young guys on my team, right? It doesn't have to be someone from the start, it can even be someone I drafted....am I right?

Alright, I'll give it another try

The HG for 2007-2008 must be on your roster when the game starts. Most people chose either Blunden or Bolland or Barker. It is not enough if you own his rights, he must be SIGNED and on the roster at the start of the game.
From 2008-2009 on, the player must be signed before the draft one year back, not be older than 24 in October 2008 (when his HG season starts) and not have played 25 NHL games until then. So, if you have signed Parent in May 2007, you cannot use him as a HG in 2007-2008, but you CAN use him as your HG in 2008-2009, provided he won't have 25 NHL games played till then.
You can still use him in 2007-2008, but not as a HG.

Anyway I can understand your frustration, I intended to use Grabovsky as HG this season and he's really doing great, but he was already 24, so not eligible for HG anymore, I noticed it way too late and had to stick with Brouwer.

I acquired Ian White on 21st September 2006, would he be eligible for omegrown status for the 07-08 season? He was born on 4.6.1984 and has played 12 NHL games. Thanks in advance and sorry about this, I thought I understood it all but clearly I did not.

No that's too late.
For 2007-2008, he MUST be on your roster at the beginning of the game. If Bickell is the only remaining you must use him for at least 2 seasons.

Damned it. Oh well. Bryan Bickell replaces Jason Blake on my fourth line now then, I'll have to trade him away. Thanks a lot Danny, great responses.

I'm sure I must be annoying the hell out of the more experienced TBL users by now!

I can dump Blake for a first rounder, and bearing in mind I got him as a UFA it would be like a free pick. This game is crazy. Aucoin still a UFA. I'm hoping he'll accept 1.6 million ish per year, but he wants 3.5. Still no interest in him...

If I sign a 20 y/o FA out of Junior, in the 06-07 season (he'll transfer at the end of the season) Does he count toward the 2 FAs I can sign for the 06-07 or 07-08 season? Thanks

If he's signed and joins till the last day of June he counts for 06-07, from July 1st on it's 07-08.

For the HG, the player must be signed at the start of the game or be signed by the end of training camp! In the rules, there's a list of unsigned prospect that are eligible to be HG for 07-08 if signed by end of training camp 06-07. However, i don't know if it works the same with players you acquired the right of before signing them during camp

I guess it should work too, but i am not sure.

Hypnotist: if by 7-5-07 you mean 5th July 2007 (the date format is not the same on the different sides of the ocean

), so yes he would count as a 07-08 FA signing. At least from what i understood

I think he wouldn't count as a FA if you already own his rights.

Yes, 5 July 07. I usually write the date in this format ever since my military days, (read my blog) but most ppl he in the United (self-centric) States don't like it. Kinda like the metric system

Unfortunately he wasn't a prospect of mine. Alexandre Demers out of Drummondville was a straight UFA out of junior. Although I'm trying to get Ryan Garlock in my system too. If he agreess to my deal, I'm going to cancel the Demers deal to make sure I can sign at least 1 FA this summer.

Hey, that's a good question!! Do we get roll-over FA signings?!?!?! If I only sign 1 FA this year, can I sign 3 the next?!?!?

That's why it's not advisable to trade away all of your prospects at the start of the game. That's what people did in the old challenges and it made things too easy. That's why we changed the rules. We want you to have to actually have to develop your youngster. Heck, I've stocked just about the whole roster of my AHL team for the first season. That way I would have more options for a homegrown.

It's kind of foolish to have Jason Blake wasted on your 4th line anyway. What's that all about? Would you see that in real life? That's another part of the whole "core" concept with the new rules. At least in the first season we were able to kind of "force" you to have actual role players. You don't end up with 4 lines of star players. You might have some scrubs or energy players on your 4th line instead of guys who would be at least 2nd line players on any other team in the league.

Yeah... when he's having a bad game, he'll send him down. Other than that, I think batdad's talk of having a team so good that Heatley was a 4th liner was all a lot of boasting.

I signed Ryan Garlock.

I was looking at potential UFAs and RFA for the 07-08 season and the only player I would be interested in and would fit into my overall plans is Eric Brewer, but I'm trying to trade for him anyways. So I may keep the Alex Demers deal.

Niedermayer got himself a broken toe with two weeks left of the regular season. However, if you look at the bright side he got a much needed rest, my d-play broke down but the important thing is that the Captain is back and fit for the upcoming playoffs.

Hypnotist. I have Garlock on my team and he has been one of my most important players this season, not in terms of production regarding points and so on, but his versatility have been crucial to my line-up. Also, a very giftet and talented player with a great upside.
