Could you guys possibly make lockout year databases? (ex.1994/95, 2012/13, 2004/05,etc) I think it would be cool to see what couldve happened if there was not a lockout.

There's already a 2012-13 database, as there's EHM07 yearly databases since 2006-07 that can be used (but none have been "tweaked" since the release of the new EHM, and only the UUDB from 2006-07 http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 77&t=11330 includes the many years of future players); here's the Forum for the older EHM07 databases http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=77 you just have to import the database into the new EHM http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/wiki/inde ... nto_EHM:EA

For anything else, it takes YEARS to make a retro database so a 1994-95 database isn't likely anytime soon (it's actually one of a handful I've started on but I'm not sure I'll ever get back to working on it; while many hours have been spent on the project I haven't looked at it in years and don't really intend to at this point, and if I did it would be well over 1000 hours of work to get it playable)

Archi's new EHM Editor that he's working on http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 10&t=14290 I believe might/will have the ability to edit EHM07 and EHM05 databases as well as the new EHM, and that might allow for the 2005-06 database to be made available for the new EHM someday (currently it's only available if you're playing EHM05).....but I don't think a 2004-05 database is likely

I've wanted to update my 1974 database since EHM:EA came out 18 months ago, but still haven't got to it.....Asher413 has been working on a 1972 database for six years.....it takes a long time to create a database! HaHa Here's the Retro Rosters Forum http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... .php?f=116 (it's only the TBL 1998 DB and the 1974 DB that are close to complete/complete)

FYI You'd want to get rid of anything after the 1997-98 season

I did it years ago with the 1974 DB, it was difficult/time consuming and involved multiple steps and alas I can't remember how I did it/what I did

IIRC the current EHM Updater can do so but introduces a bug when you do it (I believe that's still the case...it was awhile ago that I heard this); that's why it hasn't been done yet...

Well I've simulated to the 2017 NHL Entry Draft with this file to see what would happen...

Crosby was selected 5th overall by the Avs, Marc Staal was taken 1st overall by the Blackhawks.

Malkin was selected 5th overall by the Islanders, Jon Quick was taken 1st overall by the Hurricanes.

Ovechkin was selected 11th overall by the Leafs, Quick was 1st ovr.

McDavid was selected 4th overall by the Bruins, Dylan Strome was taken 1st ovr by the Hurricanes.

Highest point total I've seen is 119pts by Joe Sakic in 2001-2002 with the Avs.

Any questions? I'd be happy to answer. Won't sim if you guys want to know who got drafted where/who scored what etc. :-)

Finally started a game with this roster, and must say, you guys did an awesome job! All those players from the past brought to life! And add to that all the incoming prospects!

My old game, which I had been playing since I bought the game in 1975 had started to show multiple weird bugs, probably because there had been so many patches, and I didn't restart my game on any of them, so it was time to start a fresh save.

1998/99 Database

Post by StealthB2X »

I have a few questions about the 1998/99 database, will players for the future properly show up in their draft years? Ie Ovechkin/Crosby in 2004/2005, Doughty/Karlsson in 2008, and so on.

Players show up at age 14-16; Good/Top players are included up to the 2017 draft year; further details can be found in the database description http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 16&t=13516

Also started a league with these rosters, and I'm dumbfounded by the amount of work put into this. Excellent job guys! Wanted to start a league with the '98 Flyers (Lindros and Hexy for the cup!), but quickly found out that a few of the teams left in the game ('98 Jets for instance) offered a bigger challenge, with basically nothing but a handful of depth guys on the roster to start the game. Dunno, maybe I'll just go back to philly or try the 90's WHL. Either way the db is filled with all my fav players from the magnificent dead-puck era, a time-period when goals were scored only by accident and the league was filled with guys who wrote the book on punching people in the face. :)

Greetings!

An updated version of the 1998 database is now available.

The primary difference is there is now a Salary Cap, and player salaries and team budgets have been adjusted accordingly; the reason for doing this is based on the idea that given the 1998 database uses the 2006 Rule Set, the game will function better using 2006 era salaries. Salaries were adjusted based on the IRL % difference between 1998 salaries and 2006 salaries; a copy of the Hockey News from 1998 that listed NHL salaries was used to verify the salaries ingame (most were already correct). Eleven players had their salaries lowered slightly due to EHM maximum salary limitations (S. Fedorov, M. Lemieux, E. Lindros, P. Kariya, D. Hašek, P. Bure, M. Sundin, D. Gilmour, W. Gretzky, M. Messier and P. Forsberg).

In addition to adjusting salaries team budgets were adjusted to be 10% higher than the starting team salaries, so no teams should start with "financial issues" - the Salary Cap was set at 48 million, and not 44 million as it was IRL in 2006 (as this covered the handful of teams that had player salaries total greater than 44 million); there is no Salary Floor. While doing this work it was noticed that all NHL Teams had "1" for Market Size, so this too was edited.

Additionally, some work was done on Staff Attributes (primarily AHL and Major Junior Staff).

And finally, an old version of the EHM Updater (version v0.4.1xp4) was used to remove post 1998 Competition History and Award History. Using this older version of the Updater to correct the Competition/Awards History results in the PreGame Editor not being able to be used to edit the database! As a result, I've made two versions of the database available: version 1.1a has not had the Competition/Awards History corrected, while version 1.1b has.

I've included a folder within version 1.1a that includes the two files needed to correct Competition/Awards History and version v0.4.1xp4 of the Updater so those that might want to edit the database and then correct the Competition/Awards History can do so. IMPORTANT - the first step in the process is to use the current Updater to delete the Competition/Awards History & then use the older Updater and two files to input the Competition/Awards History.

Enjoy! :-)

I have tried this. I played with Avalanche, made it to the playoffs but lost in the second round. In the offseason when i tried to resign my players, everyone said that they didnt want to sign a contract at the moment. Which is weird because i tried until Free Agency. They didnt want to sign. More people who are experiencing this?

I think Team Budgets are likely to high; I went with 10% above team salaries (the entire team) and probably should have just gone with team salaries, or maybe 1% higher (Riz did say Team Budget is meant to cover all player salaries, not just those on the NHL roster, but maybe it's not optimally working)

CJ - if at some point you work on this database again and want to address this, I have a word doc with screenshots of each NHL team's finances that would probably be helpful.....also, I've got a spreadsheet with corrected/more complete 1998 salaries (for when we can better edit finances)

I understand!

I've returned to working on three other retro databases that I'd started working on previously (updating the 1979 database + 1984 and 1994 databases); the "master 1998 database" is the editable version of the current 1.1 database

The current Challenge was the first indication (where the Challenge Rules set the Blackhawks Team Budget much lower than the ingame Blackhawks Team Budget).

I got curious, so looked at all NHL Team Budgets at startup and five years later and a few increase at startup and many increase quite a bit on their own ingame (below is a list showing the increases from 1998-2003).....looking at the list it makes me think maybe things aren't working optimally (I wouldn't think Team Budget should be more than double the salaries of the NHL roster!)

When available, Archi's new editor should allow for adjustments to salary ranges that I'd think should help address this (see third screenshot from his September 24th post http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... &start=225)

TEAM NAME AVG CLUB SALARY (CURRENT PLAYER BUDGET, STARTUP PLAYER BUDGET)
Blackhawks $22.8 (current $57.59, startup $47.48)

The current Extra Config File needs to have the retired numbers from post 1998 deleted.

An issue was noted on the HF Boards with Luc Robitaille's #20 being set to retire in 2007, and when it occurred it was credited to a 16 year old http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showp ... tcount=356

It seems retired numbers in 1998 need a review and some correction, as some retired post 1998 are already retired at startup (in 1998), and other's are set to be retired post 1998 http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showp ... tcount=378

EDIT - Riz just edited his post and noted "Yes, it was a bug and it will be fixed for the next update. Just tested it using the 98/99 DB and fixed it while at it."
So I think now the game will ignore set future number retirements for a retro database...
