This used to be my favorite thread when 07 was still super active, excited to see what happens in the new game.

What is the best thing to do with a young prospect, keep them in juniors or sign them and send them to AHL? I've drafted Konecny and he is NHL ready in terms of mental and physical attributes but sit around 8-9 mostly in his technical attributes. He's had a very good year with Ottawa 67s and is considered 1st line potential. He clearly isn't ready for the NHL yet but would a year or 2 with that low attributes in his technical skills ruin him or make him take less strides forward in his development plying in the AHL?

He should be too young for the AHL.saberhagen83 wrote:What is the best thing to do with a young prospect, keep them in juniors or sign them and send them to AHL? If he can't play top six minutes in the NHL then I would keep him in junior for another year

anyone draft any prospects in WHL, QMJHL or OHL who say they want to go to the US college route and then after drafting them they change their mind?

How randomized are players? I'm looking to ask questions about Darcy Ashley, who appears to have the potential to be a first liner, and already has decent stats and is playing un-drafted in college.

You lucked out on that one. He shouldn't be that good and the players potential varies from each save to another.colinrsmall wrote:How randomized are players? His PA was set too high in the db, as well, IMHO

Wow a -14 PA!...I think if he was that good he'd have been drafted/he'd be in the NHL now (age 22), not playing Canadian University hockey...I'd think -6 at best would be probably be appropriateManimal wrote:You lucked out on that one. Anyone else having trouble developing players in this game? I tend to give them plenty of time before hitting the NHL, but I just end up with a bunch of mediocre fringe NHLers. Maybe too conservative? As a general rule I aim for them at least having an 8.0 in their current league before wanting to bring them up a level.

nah, I'm having trouble too. I think they need to be over 30 to play in the NHL.

SI's "Why Early Access?" thread noted there'd be updates every two weeks, and they also said there'd be some "major improvements to player progression" in the second update...and the second update is this coming Thursday, so hopefully these development concerns will be addressed then

Re: Hot Prospects: The official draft/youth/prospects thread
Yeah I am wondering about player development. In 2007 i thought guys developed too quickly (first off season...just boom) but now I am seeing a very very slow development of my guys. In the first year thought it was coaching in Lehigh Valley, but made changes and brought in stud coaches...seeing not much development.
Maybe we also need to play around with practice routines a bit. Maybe the stuff we used for 07 does not really work in EA. That would be good in my opinion. I have started to play around a bit to see. Adding a third coach to each skill in practice is one thing I will try for a month. Then moving to one coach in each skill. Just to see what happens
I do not think it is the practice stuff though, I just want to eliminate it. I think it is that it has been tuned too low, much like the AI trading went from one extreme to almost the other (Although I do not think it did really, just made it super tough, which is good in my mind)

Re: Hot Prospects: The official draft/youth/prospects thread
Judging by how these sorts of attribute changes were patched in previous versions of EHM (i.e. EHM 2005 and 2007) and also FM, my guess is that the improvements will only really affect development of players from the point you patch the game. So in reality you're best off starting a new game.

NOt actual regens...new gens now. Will not be able to tell who they were for the most part. Noone will match the #s that they had originally. Still believe the time frame is the same...2 years after retire (North America), 4 years after for Euros or something like that.

Well I haven't got that far so might be alright then! I know some patches require a new game but hopefully this won't. Otherwise I'll have to furiously trade back all those picks and prospects.archibalduk wrote:Judging by how these sorts of attribute changes were patched in previous versions of EHM (i.e. EHM 2005 and 2007) and also FM, my guess is that the improvements will only really affect development of players from the point you patch the game. Re: Hot Prospects: The official draft/youth/prospects thread
I am in my fifth season now.I have lot of very good prospects and most of them already play in my pro team.I have to say that i also coach my ahl team myself ,so maybe this is a big reason. Some of the prospects playing in my pro team are like Oliver Kylington and Jesper Lindgren they both play in m defence and are very good and one of my best is young swedish center Gustav Franzen.I had them all playing 2 or 3 seasons in my ahl team. Now they are in my pro team and they play very good and also their developing is well.

Re: Hot Prospects: The official draft/youth/prospects thread
Out of interest, is there a list of good prospects or a way to see potential (like with FM scout)?
I find I can't scout for a particular type of player like Flashy forwards, and a lot I'm finding are "checking forwards", even though their stats would suggest otherwise. Any ideas for scout searches to find what will fit my play?

Re: Hot Prospects: The official draft/youth/prospects thread
Roles have not been set in the database yet and yes reports of a lot of 2 way and checking forwards. This should change once a DB comes out to import with all of the player roles set. Research on that is underway. I do not trust scout reports totally, and take all into account. His numbers in attributes will tell you what type of player he is.
Sort by flair if you want a flashy guy.

I am looking for a really good young goaltender, In the first offseason I know Jake Allen and the goalie from Detroit are available, any ideas which one is worth signing?

Anyone try Nick Petersson (sp?) of the Swedish league? 23 in year one, turns into a good 2nd/3rd line goalscorer. Usually sign in second year

Re: Hot Prospects: The official draft/youth/prospects thread
I am looking for some advice regarding Anthony Duclair, he had a dominant year in the QMHL, and i am planning on putting him with Hubeardeau and Bjugstad. He has 2 goals in 5 games with a rating under 7, but I am worried about his development. According to most of the advice on the forum, he should spend a year in the AHL and then he can make the club next year. Should I keep him in the big leagues or send him down/

Re: Hot Prospects: The official draft/youth/prospects thread
Personally, for top prospects, they only make my team if on a weak team they are top 2 in their position at forward on the depth chart, or 3 on any others.
Duclair almost always busts for me though, only prospect I never have luck with
