Just won my 3rd Cup in 4 seasons (2018-2021). However at the end of the most recent season Ekman-Larsson decided that he would go off and sign in Winnipeg for less money, no NTC, and to a team that was one of the worst in the league last season. Only reason I can think of is that he wants to be the most important person on a roster, and not overshadowed by guys such as Stamkos, McDavid, Coyle, Hackett, and Bodker. So I picked up Letang for 7 million to sort of stop the bleeding for a few years.

On the note of Hackett, he has been incredible. He has won multiple awards:
  • 3 Vezina's
  • 3 Conn Smythe's
  • 2 Jennings (missing out on 2 by 3 goals or less)
He has been my #1 goalie since I won my first Cup, and he doesn't even have attributes of that of a top 15 goalie in the NHL. I started by picking him up in FA for 1.5 million, paid him 2 million for 2 seasons after his first Vezina, and now just re-signed him for 2.5. Small price to pay for such amazing work. Same thing with Dekanich, who was my starter in 2016/17. He was cheap, and he ended up bringing us from a basement team (two top 10 picks in a row) to 4th in the West and a 1st round exit. He was my backup for 2 more seasons posting great numbers until I called up my 22 year old 1st rounder. He went to Florida, put up a putrid 3-14-2 record, and is out of the NHL. The team in front of the goalie can really dictate how they play. And my defense isn't even incredible either, it's just my offense is littered with offensive and two-way guys.

Only big FA signing I have made is Stamkos for 8 million a season (and Letang, but that was to make up for losing OEL and staying above the cap floor), and other than that I've made no huge trades other than just moving older uneeded guys for later round picks. Most of my value has come from the draft, prospects already in the system, or smaller FA signings that have turned out great (Coyle, Vatanen). Here's my roster heading into 2021/2022

Max Jones (1st round 2016) - Steven Stamkos - Charlie Coyle
Max Domi - Connor McDavid (1st round 2015) - Mikael Bodker
Brandon Perlini - Nolan Patrick (1st round 2017) - Anthony Duclair
Carl Hagelin - Gleb Berezovsky (7th round 2017) - Maxim Letunov
Boone Jenner/Kyle Palmeri

Sami Vatanen - Kris Letang
Zach Werenski (Didn't sign in TBL after college) - Brandon Gormley
Parker Wotherpoon (3rd round 2015) - Timothy Liljgren (2nd round 2017)
Matt Finn

Matt Hackett
Callum Booth (1st round 2015)

Currently sitting at about 58 million cap of the 69 million. Team still bleeds money though, but not as bad since we started winning. When we started we had about 3 cash infusions a year, now we have had 1 in 3 years. Try to keep the cap low, but a lot of it is taken up by Stamkos (8 million), McDavid (6.5 million), and Letang (7.1 million). Having 8 guys under the age of 25 sort of helps keep the cap down. Don't think I'll be able to keep this roster for much longer, but hopefully the turnaround on Stamkos' and Letang's contract will make the cap I need available.

Though I haven't really seen any superstar picks between 2017-21 drafts, have actually had a few top picks from teams still in the AHL at 22/23/24. Wish there were more superstars at the top of drafts

After two straight years playing in the relegation playoffs with my Pelicans I managed to reach the semi finals this year. Pretty much the same team as the season before but this season I had a much better goalie.

Just before the TDL sitting 2nd in the conference with the Pens. Last month has been rough but november and december we've had a lot of wins. At least figured out some of the tactics. Pouillot and Dumoulin are already playing with the big boys a few games. I've only traded Scuderi for a 5th round pick and carefully looking to see if there are any deals to be done at TDL. If not, then we go into playoffs with this roster, which pretty much means we've got a shot, but could be better. Kings traded for Wheeler and Simmons so they've got a sick roster now :(

My 4th round pick in 2019 did quite the impression when i called him up. The playoffs are game 6 and 7 in the conference finals, after Schneider lost his cool, and then a sweep in the finals. Think i´m gonna let Schneider walk, time for a retooling.

And he's from Kazakhstan too. Love seeing late rounders and players from other countries kicking butt. I see the mental stats are low for you too.

At the start of 2016-17 season with Arizona. I had my roster set and went on vacation for a few days. When I come back I find that i got Jamie Benn of waivers.

I won the Cup with my Flyers in 2018-19, but now in the follow-up season, things have gone pear shaped and I'm not quite sure why, as I haven't changed much of anything. The one stupid thing I did do was rage trade a bunch of assets in the midst of a funk lol :-p

I did notice today that when I tried to re-up a few of my staff with new contracts, the dollars were frozen at "0" and I couldn't change anything. It seems like there must have been a patch today or last night because I can window the screen now - in fact, I can't un-window it to full screen now.

Anyone notice the salary cap and salaries have decreased since the patch? The salary cap is really low! Is this just me?

Ouch... lost Fleury in the conference finals and got swept (3 OT losses) against the Lightning... They went on to beat the Blues 4-1 in the SC finals

Just got the 2018 Cup as the Wings. Datsyuk retired, but the rebuilding phase may yet be off by some time. Mrazek has turned into a stellar performer, winning this year's Vezina.

I'll be interested to see how Hackett works out for me. I picked him up under a similar deal, but currently he is my backup behind Cory Schneider who has been fairly good, so it may be hard for him to get very many games.

Nice to see a few others trying to play with the Yotes - I'm surprised you kept Letunov, did he turn out ok in your game?
It looks like I might lose Bodker as he refused the contract I offered, any tips on what you offered him?

So far my idea of trading for picks and prospects is going badly. I won 3 of my first 4. That said my picks are still in high demand, so I'm not sure the AI knows how to deal them properly.

With the Pens losing the conference final and lacking the right players I'm kind of looking for a quick rebuild year (just like IRL) to get rid of some dead weight. In the aftermath of the first season I've traded Pascal Dupuis to Arizona for Joe Vitale (one of my favorites!). He's got pretty good defensive stats and comes cheap. Also wanted to get rid of Lovejoy, hate the guy, and possible Kunitz. I saw he's declining (again, just like IRL). So I shipped of Kunitz + Lovejoy to the Ducks cause they were looking for a LW guy :D .Got Despres and Rackell in return. I'd love to see if I can make anything of Rackell.

Also I traded Bennett somewhere midseason. San Jose offered me Nieto, couldn't deny that trade, could I?

So before we head into the draft the roster looks like this:

Perron - Crosby - Nieto (quick skilled line)
Comeau - Malkin - Hornqvist (stronger and bigger line)
Winnik - Sutter - Spaling (defensive line)
Rackell - Vitale - Downie (whatever line, might change this to a speedy line some day and move Vitale up when trading Spaling).

Got Sundqvist and Kapanen coming up so might give them some time.

Unfortunatly I signed Martin cause Ehrhoff wouldn't resign. Only on a one year deal though. Still Ehrhoff is now in doubt of accepting a better contract, so I might have to piddle Martin off to get rid of him or play with a way to big defensive corps.

Maatta - Letang
Despres - Ehrhoff
Dumoulin - Martin

Cole // Pouillot // Harrington

So I've finished my 3rd Panthers season and we made some progress at least! I made up my mind sending Jokinen to Edmonton for a 2nd rounder, have not regretted it since as Howden is really good. :-) We served the Canadiens sweet revenge in the 1st round winning 4-2 but lost in the 2nd 2-4 to the Lightning, some really tight games though, Bishop more or less won it for them. So 2 years in a row now we have lost to the eventuall champions, with Lightning beating Jokinen's and Malkin's Edmonton in the final.

Some re-tooling has happened for my 4th season. Eichel signed in free agency (how Lightning never signed him up is beyond me!), DeKeyser from Detroit, Comeau from Sabres. Which means Campbell was let go even though we could have gotten him back quite a lot cheaper but at 38...no, still to high demand. Tlusty released and Hayes and Bolland traded away to lower the salary and especially Bolland has done nothing for me. After 16 games into the season we are 11-3-2. Should have a monster season if I can only get my PP and PK working like it did 2nd half last season...not looking to good at 11%/75% right now, down from 17%/84% last year. :\
