i don't mean to start up a whole new debate with this one but i watched the bio on Ben Fanelli and his family and it tear my heart to peaces. But at the other end the guy who hit him, Liambas, was made sound like in the media as a monster. To me, that was a clean hit. A great hit in fact! It wasn't boarding. It was a bigger player hitting a smaller player and rocking him. Liambas didn't charge him. In fact he held up. But i probably should of let skeletons rest with this debate.

Yu can clearly see he was skating fast just to destroy him. It was a clean hit but the way he done it deserved his suspension.

The only thing clear to me is that people are mistaking dangerous hits for dirty hits, when it is infact not.philou21 wrote:Yu can clearly see he was skating fast just to destroy him. It was a clean hit but the way he done it deserved his suspension.

When you check the replay, the guy is showing is back BUT I'm certain he saw the guy coming at him so why did he turned is back first? If it wasn't from him the hit is clean. What's dangerous is that the other guy clearly charge him to put him down, no doubt about it.

i don't know why you keep saying it's "clear". It really isn't. And charge is running all the way to him including right in front of him. To me, it was a couple strides short of a charge. Fine line but that's how i felt. The guy turned at the very last second and he hit his side, then the guy rotated and hit his head on the glass. In no way was it a goon play. That's how i feel. But what is "clear", is that you and i again have different opinions as does the hockey world.

No it's not that. I'm just saying that if the guy didn't show his back he will probably be not as injured as he was. That's it. There nothing complicated to understand.
The other guy deserved the suspension he got point.

Can we start the official "when will Matt Cooke return to the NHL" poll? And I'm not talking lenght of suspension. I get the feelign that no matter how long his suspension is he's pretty much done with the Penguins. Questions is will anyone else actually take him?

That would be great! haha With all the things Lemieux and Shero said in the past week I'm curious if they are gonna do something about that.

Did they go and make him an alternate captain the last time he had a bad hit? That says to me that the Penguins are encouraging his bad behavior.

I wasn't expecting something like this from the NHL that's kinda good. But for me it's still not enough. Let's see if Lemieux and Shero will do more...

Re: Official 10-11 NHL Eastern Conference Regular Season Thr
Wow! That's a major suspension. That could be up to 17 games (plus that game he was tossed so 18)...and really, playoff games should count as double because of how important they are. I'm not surprised though. I think it's a good call by Campbell.
But, I'm alittle disappointed in this decision for one reason, because i think the media had a huge role in how long Campbell suspended him for...and yet, it still won't be enough for many people. I'm sure all those writers are drafting up something on it as we speak....
Interesting that none of the Rangers went to fight him after that elbow. They should of sent the Boogy man after him.

I don't know if he was on the play when Cooke hit Mcdonagh. After this he was ejected from the game anyway.

lol no, chances are he wasn't. he only plays a couple minutes a game at best.
Someone should of done something though. (even though Cooke would probably turtle, unless it's gaborik coming after him of course)

Re: Official 10-11 NHL Eastern Conference Regular Season Thr
The dilema the Pens have with Cooke, and this is something Dan Byslma touched on, is his offensive stats warrant his position on the team. Bylsma said something along the line of 'when he plays with in the rules, he's a good player'. He's got 30 points in 67 games (12g, 18a), and is a plus 14, stupid plays or not, that is something that is going to be missed in the playoffs, esp with Malkin, and who knows when Crosby is coming back.
So here's a question, would you put Matt Cooke in the line up with those numbers and risk him doing something stupid, or would you put in a call-up fromt eh AHL who you're not sure how he would do in that situation. Now granted Cooke's potential replacement will have 14-17 games to prove his worth. (Also assuming the Pens make it out of the first round) But if I were that player I'd make the most of it.

"I need to change and I understand it more than ever."
This is the new declaration of Matt Cooke. Brilliant acting I must say, he also said : "I didn't want to hurt McDonagh on the play, I'm happy he is not injured." what a load of . Is he trying to look like a beaten dog or whatever? That's not gonna work for me. If he really wants to change show it on the ice next time.

Re: Official 10-11 NHL Eastern Conference Regular Season Thr
Say what you will about cooke, he's an effective player. I think he can and will change; He doesn't have a choice. His owner, coach, GM and team fed him to the dogs - they sold him out, big time. I find that somewhat disgraceful for the organization...
and how is there a connection to that hit and head checks? There isn't! Cookes was a dirty (illegal and perhaps intent to injure) elbow. Body checks that make contact to the head are way different.
The more i think about all this headshot stuff, the more i feel that people are just jumping on a bandwagon or perhaps are grossly misinformed then legitimattly concerned about player safety. The media has done a great job! I can't listen to a radio station about hockey without hearing about this filth. Talk about turning me off the game. It's not the so called "violence" or "danger" in hockey, it's the media. But, what else is new i suppose...
Habs and bruins game tomorrow. I bet you it's the most watched game this season...

I probably gonna watch it too. I still hope they will stick to a nice hockey game. Anyway the Habs and the Bruins need those 2 pts so no time for fighting.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting a game like that. I just didn't think it would be so one sided. I think Montreal gave up after the Bruins came out to a 3-0 lead.

Re: Official 10-11 NHL Eastern Conference Regular Season Thr
They shoot themselves in the foot with those stupid penalties, especially Plekanec's one. I wasn't expecting a game like this either. Price shouldn't have been pulled of the game I think he was doing well ( 5 goals on 33 shots ) It's the team who let him alone. Anyway it always seems that the game MTL/BOS are like this, one dominates the other and the next one it's the opposite. Except maybe for the 8-6 game.bruins72 wrote:Yeah, I wasn't expecting a game like that. I just didn't think it would be so one sided.
