So any bets on how far into the season Lowe is fired? :-p

There are still a lot of aging former star players out there that aren't signed. Do you guys think they'll be a bunch of retirements after the first month of the season or do you think they'll be signing for much less than they were asking over the summer?

Yeah, in particular, no one declared interest in Brent Sopel yet.
:D

One of my favourite Bob Cole lines from the last playoffs: "Sopel...can't quite get it to his teammate"

Haha, that's killer!

Anyway, saw that Trent Hunter was awarded a 1-year, $1.55M... Nice for him :-p

There is also speculation about Scotty Bowmans future as several newspapers suggests that he have received a second job-offer from the MLSE. Will Scotty become the next President of the Maple Leafs? I doubt it... Bowman himself denies that he have been approached by Toronto...

Brent Sopel can never get it to his teammate..cause he is always falling down. The man has no outside edge abilities. Nor does he have strong inside edges. Turn, fall, cough up puck...The life of Brent Sopel.

No way Bowman goes to the Circus. Just cannot see it.

The Bruins signed Hamill and a couple of their minor leaguers.

Hamill? As in Dorothy? Yep...that is what the Bruins need.

Kidding--good signing. Best of luck to Zach.

:-p

He really made a good impression at the Bruins prospect camp last month. I'm sure he'll be back with his junior team this season but it's nice that they have him signed just in case he comes to camp and steals a spot (like Bergeron did as an 18 year old).

They also signed Lucic after that prospect camp. They're looking at him returning to Vancouver for this season but have him under contract so he's ready.

It's nice to see for a change. Under the old management they'd wait until the rights were expiring on kids before making an offer. The new regime is really taking an active interest in the team's youth.

Yeah I knew about Milan. This guy may be a force. Really. And anyone who calls him a hunchback will get killed on the ice. The dude really has that disease, but he is the toughest, meanest bugger out there.

I heard about that! Wasn't it Kyle Beach that made some sort of remark about it and Lucic obliterated the kid? I can tell you one this, if he sticks to his style of play, he's going to be a fan favorite in Boston. Many of the more hardcore fans are already excited about him. Some are going a little overboard and expecting him to be the second coming of Neely but many expect him to be a solid, physical 3rd line winger who can also put in some goals, maybe around 20ish. I wouldn't even mind seeing him play on one of the top 2 lines just to keep players honest around our top players.

He still is a legend in Boston. Neely (along with Bourque) was my generation's Bruin. Bobby Orr may be worshiped (he is in Boston) as the best ever but Neely will always have a special place in our hearts. He's still really active in the community and the fans support everything he does.

I've heard some interviews with new Bruin Shawn Thornton and I can tell already that the fans are going to like him. He knows his role (tough guy) and he's eager to fill it.

I met him and got to shake his hand a long time ago. :notworthy: My first inpression is that he is a truly good guy as well as a monster of a hockey player. If it wasn't for ol' Al Eagleson, Orr would have been a Bruin for life and part owner of the franchise. Travesty of epic proporations!

Well, I have to say that Iam really excited about the bunch of young players the B's are develloping: Kessel, Lashoff, Lucic, Hamill, Rask, Karsums, Marchand, Rabbit....also read some really good things about Soderberg too!!!
....just sad that Kalus isnt around anymore, really liked that guy...

Hopefully we will be a playoff-contender pretty soon again!!!!

Lets hope!!!

They've just signed hamill havent they, the B's did a good take taking this guy 8th overall, he was so underated on all by all the scouting services, some people had him as low as 20, i was hoping that would be the case so the Ducks could have taken him, but the Bruins have a good player there.

My vote is for Marc Staal ;)

Btw, how come no-one have linked to the Luke Richardson-Ottowa deal yet ;) I think it's great to see that Luke still laces them up year after year... That's what it's all about, passion and fun. Or in some cases, money :-p

On the subject of Bobby Ryan. Does anyone here know why Team USA didn't pick neither Bobby Ryan or Bobby Sanguinetti (both from Owen Sound) to the World Juniors?

However, Bobby Ryan looks like a pretty talented player and will probobly do fine with the Ducks this season.

LOL! The Habs may have their goalie of the future but I'm pretty certain they won't be getting anywhere near the Stanley Cup Finals (maybe in EHM but not the real world) this year! Who have they added to their team? I know they've subtracted a whole heck of a lot!

Is Ryan expected to be on the Ducks roster this year or is he AHL eligible?

The Bruins did a good thing signing Hamill. I wasn't so sure about him when they drafted him (because they passed over a couple other guys) but the more I've read about him, the more I've liked. The kid is going to be good. I just hope they're patient with him. I'm thinking the Bruins' AHL affiliate down in Providence (we call them the Baby B's) is going to be pretty entertaining. They've got a couple of their Euro-prospects coming over this season (in addition to Rask). Sobotka and Lehtonen have had some nice things said about them. Plus, they're hoping Karsums can stay healthy. They've also got some North Americans looking good. Rabbit should be with Providence this year. Krejci could actually make the Bruins squad. I believe Hunwick is done in the NCAA and signed with them too. I just wish the Boston Bruins gave me that much to be excited about. I still think they should've tried to sign a decent defenseman.

Anyone heard anything about Berard yet? Any interest out there? What about Vaananen?

The Habs were lucky to have a veteran defense Brisebois for only 700 000$.. hes not the player he used to be.. but gives the team more depht.

And for the bruins.. Fernandez could be the answer ( if hes not another felix potvin ).. I guess it wil be less stressfull to watch a game for you with him than with the street hockey goalie Tim Thomas.. Chara cant be bad 2 years in a row.. decent attack.. but geez.. bruins need to do a trade or something to get a denfense.. looking almost as bad as the Thrashers squad. Imagine if Chara get injured...

I don't think the Bruins trade for Fernandez was the answer. I would've kept Toivonen and given him another chance. Then I would've spent the $4M or so that Fernandez is making on a trying to sign Scott Hannan as a UFA. If we could've saved enough to try and sign Vaananen too, all the better. Then Toivonen could have a real chance with a good solid defense in front of him. Plus, we'd still have Kalus in the system and based on his performance at the end of last season, he would've had a good chance at making the club and providing some scoring.
