I've used I.P. Freely and Amanda Hugginkiss in testing, a couple of Bart's crank calls to Moe's names :-D

It seems that once the season is about to start you see lots of quality players getting waived or made available for very little. Draft cheaper players with a lot of potential and keep lots of cap room available.

BTW, I noticed that in the later rounds of the draft, I was stuck drafting blind for the most part. Because of the "Fog of War" I wasn't able to see the ratings of most of the players left available. I had to go with what my coach, GM, or scout said... or maybe hope I spotted some guys I might be familiar with from other games.
I definatly agree with that whole post. I drafted people I knew would do a job at first, then towards the end I was just using recommedations, turns out the ratings of most of my prospects are pretty darn poor. My team looks okay, although Ive realised I perhaps drafted too many prospects and NHL regulars. Theres not much of a Providence team this season :-p

Forgot to post a screenshot when I exited the draft though so I cant really "compete" in this challenge but Ill go along with it anyways, as it would be my first challenge!

You can do what InStaaled did and just get proofs from the overall league transactions listings; see my message to him earlier in the thread. As long as you followed the setup instructions and play by the Challenge rules you're okay. We just need to know people are in fact drafting not just putting together a killer config file and saying they drafted, so if you can just show that more than just your team added a bunch of players on draft day you'll be okay. You still have to follow the entry guidlines in the "Gaining Entry" thread in the news header though before I can add you to the recording

I C Wiener is funny...But noone noticed my GM name....sniff cry

Also, question here. I traded for Svitov...he now leads my team in PIM's, but most were with his old team. Do I still list him with the 123 PIM's he has for my team in my reporting or should I only use the PIM's that were accrued with the Sabres? (Note: I know this is probably in the rules somewhere, but I can't see them)

It's kind of unofficially in the rules, and then we have discussed it before but I'm not sure exactly wherre... anyhows the way we tell you to look up your player stats, the stats shown are only the stats gained while they were with your team; so indirectly that's the answer and why you might not find it spelled out directly anywhere. Only stats from when they were under your control, just because otherwise it would get far too complicated for us since it then depends on how they did on other teams and how much they played there etc so it's too many variables. :dunno:

But batdad? I thank you for your support. 8-)

My support? What am I supporting? Hopefully not your pantyhose...you rock star you.

Anyway, that is what I thought, so I will enter Mr. Regehr's stats properly. :-D

Roster moves for the 1-20 game section:

Oct 17 - Claimed Alexei Kovalev off waivers from Minnesota.
Oct 23 - Lost Pascal Dupuis to Vancouver via waivers.
Nov 4 - Traded Richard Zednik to Calgary for their 2007 2nd round pick.
Nov 6 - traded Chuck Kobasew to Nashville for Shea Weber and the rights to Matthias Ganahal.
Nov 13 - Claimed Gilbert Brule off waivers from Phoenix.

So much for having a massive amount of cap space. It was worth it though, Kovalev's been an absolute monster for me.

If I can ever get a respectable power play, I'm going to be dangerous.

I'm not wearing hose, I'm wearing jeans... but just because the guy that bought me my leather pants can't give me something that expensive yet so I'm only wearing the Lavender Latex Corset so far. I should have said; what I really want? Is a pony :-D Anyhow... I was commenting on your username you say nobody noticed.
Now before I end up having to ban all of us for rambling off topic :banned: it's probably best to warn/inform people they should check out the Popomundo thread in General Forum to learn that my character in our band universe game is female; and InStaaled's is a brokeass punk that invites me on dates where we have to wash dishes cause we can't afford the food we just ate. It's a fun game though and people should check it out. Now, let's keep that convo in that thread and Challenge convo in here, shall we? :-p

I don't think I'll be able to play unless I turn to a restart some night that I am up all night and can't sleep... which could easily happen but if I'll decide to roll a draft or test the patch I dunno... but I love the Challenges as you all know.

Whoops...Not my username...my GM name (BARTLE JAMES) for the challenge game.

BTW--My power play and penalty killing stink. I don't get it. My coaches must suck, cause I am doing what I did in Vancouver when I was #3 and #1 in them in my other game.

Hopefully the missing piece of the puzzle:

January 1st - traded the rights to James Sheppard and Matthias Ganahl and 2007 6th round pick to LA for Pavel Datsyuk and 2007 5th and 6th round picks.

My powerplay is picking up now, and I've moved toward a more defensive playing style with marked success. I'm second in the East and rolling along at a good clip.

Games 21-40 were rollercoaster time in Montreal. After losing game 21 we had 5 game winning streak. After that problems began, lost Koivu for almost two weeks and havlat was also injured some games. Koivu really is the heart and soul of this team. Young centers Immonen and Filppula played reasonably well but could not carry team to wins. Fortune turned right away when Koivu returned, first game after injury he had a 4 goal game.

Miroslav Satan has really shined in 1st line. 54 points in 40 games and on 3rd place in NHL overall points after Jagr(58) and Kovalchuk(54). After trying different combination, Satan - Koivu - Havlat seems to have real chemistry. In game 40 they alone crushed Tampa Bay 6-0 ( Satan(2+4), Koivu(2+3), Havlat(2+3).

Powerplay still doesn´t seem to work. That really has to improve if i want to make a real run for the CUP.

I forgot to mention in my last post - I hired Mike Babcock as an assistant coach after the Red Wings fired him. I'm not entirely sure of Guy Carbonneau's head coaching mettle, so I like to surround him with as many quality assistants as I can.

Wow.

Crazy things abound before my first set of games ends.

Leopold goes down with an injury so I trade my spare checking line forward (Axelsson) for Havelid.

First game I have Havelid is a 7-2 blowout against Buffalo on their home ice.

They didn't take to kindly to that... http://img342.imageshack.us/img342/5734 ... es1kl9.jpg

Yeah, I just called him up for this game since Fedotenko was in a small slump and I wanted to switch things up a bit.

Looks like it worked out. :-D

Man, who doesn;'t have Boogard? I love that evil jerk. Cept in a game where I was getting whooped...he did not attack anyone even though he was told to 4 minutes into the game. Bum...sat out the next 5...and Svitov got in and did some damage with his fists.

I called Boorgard up, sent him out to stir up some hostilities. It took him five seconds of his first shift to get it going. He was given two, five, ten and a game, followed by a 7 game suspension.

I won the game 8-0 though, so it's OK. 8-)

Highly successful start to my first challenge, sitting top after 20 games, with games in hand on most of my challengers. I was happy with the draft keeping a few million in cap room and loving my forwards. Defence was a bit light but happy overall.

First thing I did was employ all new staff, new assistant GM, head coach, 5 new ass coaches, 15 new scouts and 3 new physios! I did the same for Hamilton. Hamilton are also top with a 17-1-0 record.

FA Signings:

Every prospect I picked in the fantasy draft, the Russians coming next season plus Garlock, Maunu, Bridges, Stafford and Vernace for Hamilton and Allison (1mil per year) for Montreal

Waiver pickups:

Holik and Dingman both on re-entry waivers

Trades:

Vanek to SJ for a first
Arkhipov to NJD for Girardi
Salmelainen to CAR for 4th and 5th picks
CAR's 4th pick to ANA for Lojek
Hagos to WSH for 2 4ths
Davidson to NYR for 4th and 6th picks
Vrbata and Meyer to PIT for 3rd and 4th picks
Umberger and 2nd to LA for a first
Balastik to CBJ for a second
Maunu to PHI for a 2nd and a 7th
Hagman to TB for a fourth.

Quite a lot of moves, especially out but my lines still look like:

Ovechkin-Forsberg-Jagr
Zetterberg-Allison-Alfredsson
Holmstrom-Madden-Lehtinen - Gotta be the best third line ever
Moreau-Holik-Michalek

Boumeester-Brewer
Niinimaa-Martinek
Kloucek-Lojek

Hasek
Caron

With Semenov, Dingman and Toivenen in reserve for injuries. I've had a lot of luck with injuries with only Brewer missing more than a few games.

I've got a free agent offer out for Kasparitis as he was released from his contract and I've offered 550k for the season. He would slot in for Kloucek and improve my weak link (defence). My offense is compensating, and my shut down line is scary. If I can stay clear of injuries this squad should look to win the conference

Quick question, are you allowed to manage an international team during Challenges?

It could give you an advantage as it removes the fog of war for all of that nations players. I'm not managing one anyway, just wondered if it was allowed.

Ahh, didn't think of that should we disallow it then? I just didn't think you'd really have a prayer of being hired as a first season GM was why I din't give it a whole lot of thought...
