About to finish my third year in buffalo after successful years with price albert and then victoria. They had finished near the bottom for 3-4 years so when i took over in 2014-15 they had some good prospects especially on defense. Finished 6th but somehow rode nic backstrom and re-acquired vanek to a cup win.
15-16 produced a 5th place finish and second round exit to eventually cup win toronto (!)
16-17 i locked up the 8th spot with 4 games to go. I traded for Irbe regen mid way through 15-16 and this is his first year as #1, save% around .890 and gaa about 3. i took over tactics with about 25 games left and they been playing better since then. would have had a better year but i made some stupid mistakes. Normally i go down to 3 lines for the playoffs and forgot to change it back until late january, so i was playing 3 lines for the first 50 games of the year....i have to pay more attention....

I Finally won the cup! I beat Canucks 4-0 (2-0, 3-2, 3-2, 4-2) in the final!Zappa wrote: A little update:
I'm in 2012/2013 now.. I haven't had any great success with my team yet... Key players like Öhlund, Luongo, Lecavalier are declining a bit now, but my regens are looking great now and I have added a few players to my squad.. This is how my team looks atm:
Kovalchuk - Lecavalier - "regen"
Morrow - "regen" - "regen"
J. Jokinen - "regen" - Eaves
Helm - Betts - Ortmeyer
Hedman - Bouwmeester
Öhlund - Keith
"regen" - Foster
Luongo
Niittymäki
I have 3 very good regens. Messier, Forsberg and Jagr (I think it's Jagr). They are all looking great now. Last season they all had over 75 points... Hopefully they will be even better this season.. Kovalchuk, Bouwmeester and Lecavalier are getting older and maybe declining a bit, but they're still my best players and they will be my key to success.

Lecavalier had an amazing season.. http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/7564/lecavalierk.jpg
I will take a break from this save now and try some other team

Playing as the Senators. Started rebuilding, had a few rough seasons including missing the playoffs a few times, but now things are starting to come together into a solid group of forwards. Now I just need to whip my defence into shape.
Current line up
Milan Michalek - Jason Spezza - (regen)
Johnathon Toews - (Forsberg regen) -(regen)
Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson - (regen) - (regen)
Ryan Hollweg - (regen) - (regen)
Stephen Johns (07 draft pick) - Jack Johnson
Adam Pardy - Matt Greene
(regen) - (regen)
(Kolzig regen)
Andrew Raycroft
Injured during season and retired: Jarome Iginla
For the last season, my team was very mediocre, floating around from 8th-10th place for most of the season. But then I traded for Toews, who got off to a really slow start with my team. After some constant line juggling, I finally found a fit for him and he took off offensively. Also traded for Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson, who also lit things up after acquiring him, and the team went from roughly 27-23 or thereabouts midway through the season to finish 45-31-6.
In the coming off season I hope to improve my defence, to give my Kolzig regen some help. Though he has already proved invaluable, as last season I ended up calling him up from Binghamton and he took over as started for the playoffs instead of Raycroft, and he took my team all the way to the Stanley Cup. This season I kept him up and split duties with Raycroft, until Raycroft ended up performing terribly, at which point he took over and finished the season on a hot streak. His GAA and Sv% weren't great, but he performed admirably. Come playoff time, he once again came up big, and brought the Stanley Cup back to Ottawa for the second straight year.

And yes, it must suck to be Tampa.

I've started a game with the Islanders, as I always play with the Sabres but wanted a big rebuilding job. Have made a couple of early moves, bringing in Ryan Wilson and Robert Nilsson and getting a 2nd rounder, with Radek Martinek, Dwayne Roloson and Richard Park gone. I'm 6-5-2 in the early stages of the season, and I'm getting good stuff from Blake Comeau and Greg Moore, oddly.

Nilsson is always the first player to go when I play the Oilers as he rarely gets over 7.00 in a season.Philip Rolfe wrote:I've started a game with the Islanders, as I always play with the Sabres but wanted a big rebuilding job. I (once again) play as the Oilers and won the cup for second time in a row, this is my most successful save ever!

I shuffle the lines all the time and goes with the "equal power on each line" tactic and it looks to be working.
The first season I practically went with the original line-up with some changed role-players and a total goalie change. I also signed Forsberg as a UFA (modified Lidas 2.0).
The second season a couple of changes in the line-up took place, most notably was Lidström as an UFA and Thornton (from the two-time jumbo-placed Sharks) by the deadline for some really good prospects.
Note: Wheeler was brought in after the SC for O'Sullivan, Petry and a 3-4 D prospect.

My line-up for the next season will be quite different as I will try to make a small rebuild by bringing up my prospects.

And here is Jack Johnson. His contract is up, so I plan on cutting him loose unless he wants to take a pay cut. I had to overpay to get him in the first place. Hopefully now that I have two back to back Stanley Cups I can attract some free agents that I've had trouble with in the past.

I am playing with the Senators now and in my first year I made it to the Stanley Cup final before loosing. About to start my second year, but I am in need of a first line defencive defencemen. Anyone have any ideas?
Kuba-Volchenkov
Picard-Lee
Karlsson-Jared Cowen
Jarred Cowen is still too young and I really dont have a choicce if I cant find a much better fit. I have 4 million in cap space and Chris Philips who played so poorly during the regular season he even spent so time in the AHL.

Denis Gauthier may not be a standard 1st, but he is good defensively and actully played about 10-20 games in the first pairing for me when my offensive minded D became too much.DJP19 wrote:I am playing with the Senators now and in my first year I made it to the Stanley Cup final before loosing. Niklas Kronwall is rated as a offensive minded D but is really solid in the back end. It never harms to have two defensemen with the ability to play the puck in the first pairing.
Otherwise, just quick-fix it with some old fellow like Blake...

Well, here's the story of my latest GM career. After winning 4 Stanley Cups in 5 years with the Toronto Maple Leafs and having the most ridiculously stacked team full of incredible prospects (without even "cheat drafting"), I decided to change up my game.
I started a new game and simmed to the 2009 season at the trade deadline. I took over the last placed Coyotes and instigated the following rules:
- No big free-agent pickups
- Self imposed Salary Cap of 46 mil (10 less than the actual cap)
- No cheat drafts (moving up must be completely fair)
- Fair contracts
My favorite draft of the game is the 2010 draft that features the influx of retired Canadian and American talent. I feel that any team can be built forward from that draft with any first rounder. After trading away unwanted prospects, large contracts, and rental players to other teams I entered the draft with the following picks (after winning the lottery):
Two 1sts (#1 and #16) - The 16th was acquired for the services of Prucha and a 4 star D prospect
Three 2nds
Three 3rds
and tons of 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7ths.
I did a lot of wheeling and dealing at draft day to acquire the following:
- Traded 1st overall for 3rd overall and 33rd overall.
- Traded 16th overall, 33rd overall, 40th overall, and 89th overall for 2nd overall.
This left me with the following picks (not including 3rd RDers +):
- 2nd, 3rd, and 41st overall
Jorin Malgunas (2nd Overall - 2010)
Vilhelm Granqvist (3rd Overall - 2010)
Jan-Ove Fritz (41st Overall - 2010)
I traded for the rights to Sheldon Souray at draft day (he was set become a UFA) and signed him for a respectable 3.7 million. It cost me the 52 overall and a middle level defensive prospect.
Malgunas, Granqvist, and Fritz were all sent back to juniors. I force my prospects to play at least one year in the AHL before they make the NHL and none of these players were 20 yet (or held no junior rights). My AHL team certainly suffered because of it.
My team played surprisingly well throughout the season and at the trade deadline I was sitting in 5th place and was willing to pick up A BIT of salary as I was sitting at around 40 million for the season (6 million under my self-imposed cap).
At the trade deadline I acquired Michal Roszival and a 1st round pick from the 12th placed NY Rangers for Oliver Ekman Larsson, Mikkel Boedker, my 1st and 3rd round pick. I also traded Chris Summers, Al Montoya, Francis Lessard, and my 4th round pick for Colten Tuebert and a 2nd rounder. The Kings were in playoff position but had just lost Quick for 8 months due to an ACL injury. Tuebert was turning out to be an excellent Defensive D-man (17 checking, 18 hitting, 17 pokecheck). I ended up finishing 3rd in the West and went into the playoffs with the following roster:
Vrbata-Marleau-Doan
Paille-Turris-Mueller
Hollweg-Hanzal-Brouwer
Fedoruk-Talbot-Tripp
Souray-Roszival
Ehrhoff-Tuebert
Merrill-Popovic
Brygalov
Modig
A rag-tag team if I've ever seen one (especially for EHM). Somehow they were winning though; Bryzgalov was absolutely standing on his head, and Marleau, Doan, and (somehow) Mueller were putting up great numbers.
To cap the Cinderella season, this team actually WON the Stanley Cup. I couldn't believe we were able to beat a stacked Devils team in 6 games. To add to that awesomeness, the Rangers fell apart and the end of the season finishing third last and SOMEHOW won the lottery giving me the first overall pick.
It was a no-brainer who I drafted as I had been drooling about him all year, jealous of the team who would draft him. Hell, I was expecting a 10th overall with the Rangers pick and was expecting to draft someone half as good as him.
Fredrik Miller (1st Overall - 2011)
The only problem with winning the cup with a team full of elders and young talent doing well is managing all the contracts.
- Souray was too old and wanted too much (Bye bye!)
- Mueller wanted 5 million a year for three years (Bye bye!)
- Doan took 2.7 million for one year (Thank you!)
- Tueber took 2.2 million a year for 5 years (Yesss!)
- Bryzgalov needed 6.25 million a year for three years (Had to do it. Ouch.)
- Marleau wanted 6 million a year (Bye bye!)
My note worthy signings in the off season were:
- Dawes at 750k a year for 2 years (17 wristshot, 19 getting open, and cheap... yess!)
- Connoly gets 3 million a year for 3 years to centre my first line.
After this point (and the three great talents I acquired in the past two years) I told myself that I will no longer pick top 10 in the draft (even if I have the pick). I expect to pick between 20th and 30th for the next decade.
Now I'm going to skip forward a couple years and show you where my three stars are sitting at the start of the 2013-2014 season. No one else will get long term contracts. VERY VERY happy to have my #1 Defenseman, #1 Centre, and #1 Winger locked up long term and reasonable! Best part is they are only gonna get better!
Jorin Malgunas RW/LW (2nd Overall - 2010) Contract = 8 years @ 4.2 million cap hit (staggered)

Vilhelm Granqvist C/RW (3rd Overall - 2010) Contract = 10 years @ 5 million cap hit (staggered)

Fredrik Miller RD/LD (1st Overall - 2011) Contract = 10 years @ 4.75 million cap hit

The third season is complete. It begins the next saison. The third season was very hard and tight, but I still won the championship. I had bad luck. It was not possible to undertake a good foreign goalkeeper (Probably a bug in the year 2008, or be regulated) and my first goalkeeper got injured for 4 months.
So I had to use my youth goalkeeper. He has done a good job! Nevertheless, it was a disappointing season. So I've decided to change some of the team.
I have my team greatly strengthened. I think I never had a better team.
Major players additions for the fourth season:
Pavel Vorobiev
Vladimir Denisov
Viktor Aleksandrov
Vitali Kolesnik
Aleksei Kalyuzhny
Kirill Lyamin
Dimiti Tolkunov
Ivan Tkachenko
Sergei Konkov
Mikhail Biryukov
Evgeny Varlamov

2014-15 season for the Sens. The team was an offensive juggernaut, scoring 350 goals over the season (4.27 goals/game). Towards the end of the season the offense went into a bit of a slump, otherwise that total would have been a bit higher. The defence improved slightly, allowing 262 goals (3.20 goals/game, which was still good for 10th best defence). Spezza set a new team record for points by a center with 138, while Michalek set a record for left wings with 122. The team record improved by 5 wins, for a total of 50-26-6 (45-31-6 year before).
Playoffs:
Defeated Bruins 4-1
Defeated Maple Leafs 4-1
Defeated Lightning 4-0
Lost to Kings 3-4
Despite having a pretty easy time through the Eastern playoffs, the rematch of last years Finals went the other way, with the Kings winning in 7. The matchup turned into a shootout, with the Sens averaging 4.43 goals per game and the Kings averaging 4.57 goals per game.

Still with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Juniors, now about a third of the way through my third season.
2006-2007: 45-24-0-1, 2nd place in QMJHL West, eliminated 2nd round of QMJHL West playoffs
2007-2008: 51-14-2-3, 1st place in QMJHL West, won President's Cup, elminated in Memorial Cup semi-finals
2008-2009 (as of Nov-15): 23-1-0-0, 1st place in QMJHL West so far (started season 22-0-0-0)
I expected this season to be a bit of a drop-off bringing up some younger talent! Not quite sure what has clicked so well, maybe just team speed top to bottom. In 24 games so far we have 106 goals to 36 against, on 753 shots on goal to 402 against. We have a 19.9% power play and a 90.3% PK unit despite spending 5% each practice time. One left wing has 26 goals and 6 assists, and his linemates have 13+4 (center) and 12+9 (right wing) despite missing the first 2-3 games away at their respective NHL tryout camps.
The board is getting spoiled... they were sure to let me know they were unhappy about the one and only loss. Going into the season they expected to challenge for the cup after two years of being satisfied expecting to make the playoffs. This should be a better team in the next couple seasons as the talent is young (that wing with the 26 goals so far is only 17).

Offered a job by Worcester Sharks of the AHL. After 2-1/2 years of success, by some measure at least, in the QMJHL I figure this is the best time for me to make the career move up and also the chance to skip over an ECHL job and go directly to the AHL is too good to pass up if I want to get to the NHL GM ranks.IrishBouzouki wrote:2006-2007: 45-24-0-1, 2nd place in QMJHL West, eliminated 2nd round of QMJHL West playoffs

Interestingly one of my Rouyn-Noranda Huskies first-liners, Kevin Gadoury, is in his very last year of juniors and has a contract with the Sharks, so I may be seeing him next year again.
I was enjoying my time in "the Q" and the down side of the AHL is I do not think there is any talent search - you pretty much deal with the talent provided by your NHL affiliate and make the best of it. Tactics and development rather than scouting.

With the release of the 2.2 update I took control of the Islanders and made some block buster deals right away, Here is my line up before regular season even started:
Sturm-M.Koviu-Havlat
Streit-Klesla
Bergenheim-Taveras-Okoposo
Hannan-Sbisa
Moulson-Neilisen-D.Brown
Witt-Teubert
Schremp-J.Perrault-Dorsett
___________________________________________________________________________________________
NOTEABLE PROSPECTS:
I lost Calin De Haan when i traded him and Di Pietro and some other average prospects for Havlat and Mikko Koivu but I have the strongest defense prospects in the league IMO:
Travis Hamonic
Jyri Niemi
Stefan Elliot
Tyson Barrie

ANYONE GOT SUGGESTIONS OF HOW I SHOULD IMPROVE THE TEAM?

I'm in 2013 and GM of the Penguins. I tried to stack my team down the middle and go with at least three very good centers. The Penguins obviously have a great basis for this already, but I added Patrick Sharp early so I could roll four lines with a scoring punch.
However, I had to deal with tons of injuries over the years and my plan didn't work out so well. I was able to win only one Stanley Cup (2011). My star centers Crosby, Malkin and Jordan Staal all missed a ton of games and I sometimes had trouble to dress even two scoring lines. Star right winger Bobby Ryan was injured a lot as well, which didn't help.
Early in the 2012/13 season I had to trade Ryan for salary cap reasons (for LW Andrew Ladd). As now Patrick Sharp went down with season-ending knee injury I tried to go for the mother of all trades to add even more strength down the middle. I traded my best defensive prospect for a 22-year old John Tavares and have now four worldclass centers. I can now roll four scoring lines and have a deadly powerplay (improved from 15 to 20% within four weeks).
Tavares and Staal are still on decent contracts (3,2 and 2,7 million) so I am still able to keep one somewhat expensive winger in Ryan Malone (4,8 million). That will change soon enough though and I will have to go with very average wingers. As you can see I try to have a scorer and a grinder on every line and I rotate my four centers between the winger pairs.
Ryan Malone - x - Matt Cooke
Andrew Ladd - x - Lauri Tukonen
Alex Semin - x - John Tripp
Mike Fisher - x - Tomi Kallio
Ryan Wilson - Brooks Orpik
Denis Seidenberg - Shane O'Brien
Sasha Pokulok - Sergei Gonchar
MA Fleury - Jason LaBarbera
Extras: D Kris Letang, LW RJ Umberger, RW Brandon Sutter, C/RW Patrick Sharp (knee injury, out until July)
This is a lot of fun because I have to do a lot of trades in case of injuries to balance my lines (and cap) out.

2015-16 season as the Sens. It was simply amazing. My team shot out of the gate to start the season, winning 18 of the first 20 games. Additionally, had another 10 game winning streak again later in the year. My defense still gave up about the same number of goals as the last two seasons, however, once again my offensive numbers increased. This season I improved on my 350 from last year by scoring my personal best ever of 385 goals (4.70 goals/game), against 260 goals against (3.17 goals/game). Jason Spezza absolutely smashed the franchise points record he set the previous year by scoring 44 goals and 118 assists for 162 points (he really earned that $5.75 million). Milan Michalek missed out on tying the record for left wings last year by 1 point, scoring 61 goals and 60 assists. Four players hit the 100 point mark, Spezza, Michalek, Mark Hjelm (Swedish regen), and Jonathan Toews. The team finished with a record of 61-16-5, my best ever record, and the first time I've hit the 60 win mark. And naturally we won the Presidents Trophy.
Playoffs:
Defeated Thrashers 4-0
Defeated Capitals 4-0
Defeated Bruins 4-1
Defeated Stars 4-0
The Bruins ruined my perfect post season.
