I wonder what size skates the Devil wears? 'Cause the Coolest Game on Ice has come to play some exbibition games in Hades apparentlyDevils88 wrote:SERIES DEVILS-CANES 1-1 or HELL FREEZES OVER
HOLY SCHNIKIES!!!!!!!
And you can talk 'bounces' and luck all you want but at some point if the Devils want a chance they need to do better than getting dominated to the tune of 30-9 in shots in the last two periods of a game...
That's an NHL record six consecutive wins as a rookie goalie in the playoffs for Ward now. Great games out of Brindy and Staal tonight and by far the best game by Weight so far this playoffs.
In other so-called unlikely but predicted by yours truly news, Buffalo goes up 2-0 vs the Sens due to weak goals by Emery. I'm really holding my fingers crossed for Tim Connoly though
Now I have to try to catch by breath for the Edmonton - San Jose game which is going to be great too! What amazing hockey this has been!!!!

Woooooooooooooo!
I love the playoffs, as well as having tickets to every game
First everybody was sad and leaving, than the foghorn went off and everyone ran back to their seats! I'm glad that I stayed until the end
GOOOOOOO CANES!
They wouldn't stop playing those 2 bad hits from the Buffalo game. Connoly got laid out which is alright (besides the fact he got injured) but that Volchenkov collision was just brutal to watch.
Sharks won as well, so it was a good night

Yeah, the Volchenkov one was pretty darn horrific... *shudder*
Was thinking how nuts it must have been to be at that game; darn I'm jealous. Though if they hadn't of scored I wouldn't have been jealous of your being at a game where your heart gets ripped out and stamped on at the end
But all is good!

No doubt! Also... wOw... that kid Penner was freakin amazing tonight! He's huge too. This Anaheim team just keeps finding new people to contribute and new ways to win, they really have it rolling. Even though Perry is out hurt, which is a big loss given how well he was playing.E5150_ca wrote:Wish Lupul could perform like that in EHM.
Anyone want to bet me that Turgeon will play in the next game? No?
This is the second game now that I've expected Colorado to come out firing and flying around and for each one they've come out like it's game 43 vs St. Louis as the sixth game on a road trip. I just don't get it... did someone not tell them they were basically screwed if they didn't win today? I mean can you really still be understimating a team that you've yet to score on in two games just because your lineup looks better "on paper"? It almost seems like they think they'l just go out there and things will fall their way since they have more star players... while Anaheim has to a man fought like hell for every open puck like their lives depend on it.
I don't know what their deal is but I have to say "So what exactly is Joel Quenneville's playoff record?" Because to me that says either coach hasn't gotten his guys heads into the game or the players don't care/think they can slide by on a half effort. All of that to me says "poor coaching".

Man am I glad I decided to record the rest of the Sharks game upon seeing it go to OT! I was falling asleep trying to watch it and they ended up playing almost a whole extra game before they finished it. I will be interesting to see how the series turns now, especially the next game. The Oilers pretty much outworked them all game but it was like zombies playing hockey by the middle of that 2nd OT.
Of course I stayed up to watch that Philly game with Pitt way back when that went to five overtimes before Primeau won it. I was going to comment here after Buffalo won so quickly in OT vs the Sens (who are done like dinner btw) that we have yet to have any of those epic overtime battles yet

Since we're talking about playoffs here, just wondering what's the longest game in NHL history?
Longest game in SM-Liiga is around 124 minutes between HIFK and Ilves, few years ago. The games in that series were long anyway, no game ended before 80mins or such. I was watching the deciding game that lasted 114 minutes.
On the topic again, i'd like to see san jose advance, also i'd like to see buffalo to go to conference finals.

The modern-day longest OT game was that Philly game in 2000 that went 92 minutes, but there were games of like 105 and 116 minutes in like 1934 and 36 I think it was...
That OT sure created a helter-skelter game four... so many mental errors by everyone on both sides of the ice! Also, it was just one of those bizarre games too. At one point San Jose was allll over Edmonton and as their powerplay was winding down someone on the Sharks took a bad angle shot on net that deflected off of Rollie's blocker and went airborne to past mid ice, skipping right onto the stick of Samsonov who had just that moment gotten out of the box. Toskala came out to challenge him but only swept the puck away a bit on his backhanded pokecheck and Edmonton scored. One of the craziest darn plays you will ever see!
So, while I'm sure Oil fans will feel differently, I don't think that game actually matters. Yeah, of course it counts, but I think it is easily enough explained away as an aberration and not a factor once they hit the ice again, especially as the game in in San Jose. As a coach/player you can say, listen... we had people who played almost an entire game, like 55 minutes of hockey in that overtime game. We came out on their home ice and jumped out to a three goal lead. Things started getting wierd as mental and physical effects of the long ice times started showing themselves. Then there were those "you'll never see that one again" kind of things like when we were about to finish our powerplay. So let's just forget about; we take to our home ice now and we'll be sharper and ready to go out there and play the same way we did to get out to that lead and finish them off this time. As for momentum I think it's a non-factor, I really do.
Personally, after that long OT if I had two goalteneders the skill level of Toskala and Nabokov I would have started Nabokov in that game anyhow. It was the perfect excuse to put him in without it having to mean that Nabokov is now The Guy. It's just that Toskala recently played basically two games back to back on the same night. I think that was a big error by the Sharks. But I still think they'll win the series.

Well now that both #1 seeds have gone down
I unintentionally heard the Buffalo score on the way home on the radio
so while I haven't watched the game I know they closed 'em out which is cool in my book as that was my prediction
Two very interesting games set for tommorow; we'll have to see who can bounce back or not... I think both will be very close though.

Wow... they not only won that game; they dominated it; the last two periods they outshot NJ like 28 to 4
Speaking of being dominated; was I the only one watching that San Jose game saying "Ummm... okay, how much less ability to stop the puck does Toskala need to show before you pull him????" Six goals on 18 shots with a "backup" with the skills of Nabokov in a crucial Game 5 at home and you don't pull the guy?!?! I totally agree with the commentators who summed it up perfectly "The Sharks just gave this one away." I don't understand it... I really don't. I mean I'm a huge fan of this team but I don't know if they will or deserve to win this series. I'm confused; I'd guess this is how Colorado's fans felt. Not sure I "believe" anymore if they keep up like this.

Sweet... how much do ya think TB would have paid to have him back with them this year instead?
He's been just HUGE for the Canes. They do have a good chunk of time off now to rest it too. I thought at first that he'd either knocked the wind out of himself or hit his head on the ice as it seemed he fell so flat on his back. Cole is supposed to be getting his xrays and word on if he can remove his neck brace today or t'morra right?
Man... I think I'm going to have serious withdrawal symptoms with no game until Wednesday and the next series not starting until the weekend!

I have followed the play-offs intermittently, but I like what I see in the match-ups for the conference games. I have to suport the Oilers now I reckon. They were slated for faltering towards the end of the regular season, and sneaked into the play-offs, but now wgho can say what is gonna happen. Anaheim will be a tough match-up, but I fancy the Oilers now. The Buffalo-Caroilna game is a toughie too, but I would fancy the Canes in this one.
Are Channel Five gooing to show live games form the Stanley Cup round? They had better do-I want a live game every night lol.

Well, it was a good run for the Sharks get the young guys some experience
would have been cool for my nobody else in the world predicted Sharks-Canes Final to still have chance of happening but they'll be back next year. I think playing 8 and 9 rookies a night finally caught up to them; they just totally lost their game with the pressure the Oilers put on.
Also I'm pretty sure Cheechoo had an undisclosed badly spraigned wrist from an awkward fall into the boards early in the series as we was pretty much non-existant. Rolosson was godlike as well while Toskala folded under pressure.
Unlike a team like Detroit it's not like this was their last run or anything so it's hard to be too bummed out I guess.
Anaheim has already taken out two teams that were faster, tougher and had far more firepower than Edmonton. I'll be suprised to see much more than Rolosson stealing a game.
I'm obviously still pulling for the Canes
but Buffalo is going to be tough. After what we've seen so far from this Canes team though I won't be surpised if they take this one too
