To be fair, the Jets were poor against the Phoenix from what I heard which is reflected in the score. So I was very surprised by Slough's win on Saturday over the Phoenix, although there was luck involved for the third Jets goal. Even more surprising was the victory again over the Flames on Sunday too!
I don't think the injuries to Harabin & Gomeniuk, their two 2 d-men, helped either. Sounds like Harabin could be out for the season and Gomeniuk is currently playing with 1 foot!!

It was a good game either way. The injury to Harabin was horrible & hope he recovers. What happened to Gomeniuk? I didn't notice any other injuries other than Koulikov getting a hockey boot to the face(not the blade thankfully). I must admit the refs this season have been rather shocking!

Gomeniuk took a puck to the skate, been hobbling about ever since but is still playing

Phoenix losing 6-3 tonight at home against Bison in the 2nd leg of the semi final of the EPL cup, losing 8-6 on aggregate.

Very tight at the top of the EIHL table, it currently looks like this with 2 games left to play :

1. Sheffield Steelers P.52 W.41 Pts. 83
2. Cardiff Devis P.52 W.40 Pts. 83
3. Belfast Giants P.52 W.39 Pts. 82

Sheffield are top due to regular time wins, they finish the season with a difficult away-home double header against 5th placed Braehead next Saturday & Sunday.

Cardiff play 6th placed Coventry Blaze at home on Saturday then travel to Edinburgh where they are guaranteed a win on sunday (given the current state of the Edinburgh team).

Belfast play 4th placed Nottingham away on Saturday and Coventry away on Sunday.

Cardiff look like they have the easiest schedule, with Coventry in a slump and Edinburgh completely useless I expect them to pick up 4 points and finish on 87 points.
Sheffield have a tough couple of games and Braehead have proven they can beat any team on thier (in their first season as a franchise), whilst Belfast also have a tough game against Nottingham. Belfast also play Nottingham in the Challenge Cup Final tomorrow night so could be a bit tired from that game also.

I predict that Cardiff will win the league with 87 points, with Belfast second on 86 and Sheffield 3rd on 85.

In the EPL it's a bit more clear cut; the race is only between Mancheter & Guildford with Manchester requiring 3 points from 4 games to claim the title. Manchester have tough games against Slough, Milton Keynes, Peterborough & Swindon coming up and the title certainly isn't theirs yet.

I was hoping to see Manchester clinch the title on Thursday night against Slough but unfortunately Guildford won at the weekend so that can't happen anymore :(

I'm going to the Clan game on Saturday so hopefully we can spoil Steelers chances.

Play offs

Should get under way nest week most games will be weekend after this one though some may get played during the week depending on availability of ice. The lower seeded teams get home advantage in 2 legged matches a bit like football/soccer though I'm pretty sure there is no away goals rule if tied on the aggregate score of the two matches and it would go to shootout and penalty shots.

Dundee (8th) v whoever finishes 1st
Hull (7th) v Whoever finishes 2nd
Coventry (6th)v Whoever finishes 3rd
Braehead (5th) v Nottingham (4th)

For the first time I am going to the play offs finals weekend in Nottingham where the 4 winners of the above matches will play in.

Saturday - afternoon - semi final 1 evening - semi final 2
Sunday - Morning/lunchtime - U20 international Scotland v England
Afternoon - Play off final

Should be a great weekend I would love to see Clan make the final 4 in their first season would be a fantastic season. Would like to see Dundee there being another Scottish club and my 2nd favourite after Clan though would be a bit of a shock.

Clan last Saturday won the Aladdin cup - it is not a major cup but still great to win something in year one. Basically 4 teams - Panthers, Clan, Blaze and Steelers had a free Saturday and Nottingham had ice available so they played a tournament. Each team played each other once in a group format with each match lasting 10 minutes and then the top 2 playing in the final which was also 10 mins.

The playoff weekend in Nottingham is pretty good, teams can play a bit defensive though as no team wants to make a mistake in a 1-game shoot out, so the games aren't always the most exciting!

Personally I can't see Dundee or Coventry getting through to the weekend, Braehead have a good chance & Hull have a chance if they play well (they've been a bit inconsistent recently).

The alladin cup was 20 minutes a game btw.

Went to Manchester - Slough last night, Slough won 6-4 with an ENG. Phoenix looked really sloppy, missing passes all night not covering back. The last 2 goals (before the ENG) were due to a poor line change and lack of back coverage from the forwards. We still need 3 points to win the league ](*,)

The IHJUK awards were given out today and are as follows:

English Premier League All-Star First Team – Goaltender: Steve Fone (Manchester); Defencemen: Leigh Jamieson (Milton Keynes), Ladislav Harabin (Manchester); Forwards: Nathan Rempel (Guildford), Marcus Kristoffersson (Manchester), Tony Hand (Manchester).

In the Elite League, Sheffield, Cardiff & Beflast all won meaning it's exactly the same at the top. Sheffield need to win today to win the league, whilst Cardiff & Belfast need them to slip up. Belfast are pretty much out of it and I have a feeling that Sheffield will win the league.

In the EPL Manchester beat MK last night which means they only need 1 point for the title :joy: Unfortunately we're not playing today (normally our home game) so we'll have to wait until Peterborough away next weekend before we can clinch the title. I will be going on Sunday to the home game to (hopefully) see the trophy presentation :)

Sheffield beat Dundee 6-1 in the first leg of their playoff quarter final whilst Nottingham beat Braehead 5-4 in the first leg of their playoff quarter final.

Dundee had Sheffield sweating in the 3rd as they were leading 4-1, unfortunately they couldn't add to that & Sheffield got the late ENG to make it 4-2 on the night & 8-5 on aggregate.

Nottingham beat Braehead 3-0 tonight & 8-4 over the 2 legs.

Belfast could only muster a draw against Coventry, despite outshooting them 39-17.

Cardiff also beat Hull away 2-1.

The Cardiff-Hull & Belfast-Coventry series will be finished tomorrow evening

In EPL news, Manchester lost 6-2 away at Peterborough tonight, meaning the title goes down to the last day of the season.

Manchester are at home to Swindon, whilst Guildford are away at Telford.

Come on Phoenix, don't throw it away now!!!

Amazing. It's a shame this guy never played in the NHL. It could have made the British hockey portrait quite different than what it is today, for the better.

Don't worry, the EPIHL Cup trophy that was won by Slough(sorry Bison fans :joy: ) was equally small.

Could be a mascot :dunno:

There a few youngsters playing in the EPL, who play with face cages but I would be surprised to see anyone below 16-17 playing in the games.

It took me a awhile to spot the trophy in that picture btw ;) :-D
