Sharks have give up on Nabokov, they would not resign him. Wilson said he want to sign the other FA in the team. Well I think they just can't sign him firstly, they are to close to the cap. Sharks got a great team but without Nabokov they would not looking as good as the past years.

Wow this is a great day for the Bruins, Wideman gone, top 6 winger acquired, cap going up by 3m and CBA extended which means there will be a bonus cushion for Seguin/Hall

Are you kidding, Nabby has never gotten it done for them in the playoffs, getting a newer, younger, cheaper, and hopefully better goalie is the way to go for them, glad to see Wilson has finally realized that they won't win a Cup with Nabby in net, Nabby might be past his best now anyway.

What do you think about Thornton? I agree with you that Nabby wasn't that good in the playoffs, still he was bringing the team in playoffs. I still think San Jose will make the playoffs next year but not in the top 4.
I don't know what "good" goalie will be available at the UFA and cheaper enough to fit with the cap at SJ, that's where the challenge is to me. But to me, they will have some difficulty in the regular season without Nabby.

And where are they gonna find that younger, cheaper and better goalie ? One just got traded to the Blues so the Sharkies missed out there.

Periods are obviously overrated, commas are the way to go!
Back on topic, it'll sure be interesting to see who do Sharks manage to bring as a replacement for Nabokov. Toskala's available, isn't he?

Haha Cir...
It's not like a Chris Mason is going to do jack all for them.

Maybe the Sharks will bring Hasek from Europe? Oh come on, that'd be a great headline!
Good on the Panthers for getting the most out of a guy whom, quality aside, had to be traded. Your on the short end usually when your hand is forced, but now they have 5 picks in the first 50 spots I believe.

They just need to draft well now.

If you know anything about the NHL, you will know that there are various ways to acquire a goalie/player.

Yeah but not many are being shopped at the moment.
Thomas isn't a likely candidate.

I said that there are various ways, not just trade, the Sharks could get one in free agency, or maybe they have their eye on a goalie from Europe who we are unaware of.

Doubt the bolded. We'd likely know, and Burke would likely have already signed him
But a goalie like Chris Mason isn't getting them anywhere near the finals, they aren't as deep as it seems and are losing a key face in net, a veteran presence on the blue line and one of their top PKers in Malhotra.

alex, if you think that Mason is the only possibility out there, think again, Turco and Theodore are also available, and I just heard that Florida might trade Vokoun since he will be a UFA next season and has a big contract.

Antero Niittymäki fits in 2/3 of your arguments. His paycheck is about 1/10 of Nabokovs salary, his 30 (goalie's best years). Hard to compare with Nabokov 'cause Niittymäki hasn't had much changes to show he can do (in NHL).
He has been choosen Best Goalie in Turin 2006.

Actually, Niittymäki won both Directorate Award for best goaltender of the tournament and the whole tournament's MVP Award.
He was originally the third goalie but both Lehtonen and Kiprusoff got injured and led our team to the final and by that the second olympic silver medal.

I'm only using Mason as an example. Theo is statistically only good on contract years (see: this year), they probably can't fit Vokoun under the cap, Turco is... well being replaced by an injury prone keeper that hasn't proven much.
I do like Nitty, but something tells me he goes back to Philly.

Yeah but he doesn't fit the most important criteria...being better than Nabokov.
Who cares what he did at some 2 week tournament 4 years ago. He's been around long enough to show he's nothing more than a backup at NHL level. And an EHM god
Turco, Theodore ? Yeah, and if that fails there's still Raycroft.

Yup! I really like this deal. I think Horton will benefit from a move to a hockey town like Boston and playing on the wing of a guy like Savard (I really don't see him getting traded, he just re-signed and has a NTC) or Krejci. Also, I'm not too familiar with Campbell but I hear he's a good, hard-nosed grinder who will be a nice fit on the 3rd or 4th line. I'm not thrilled with giving up the 15th overall pick but you have to give up something to get something. I know Wideman turned it on in the playoffs but he was really frustrating at times and was horrible throughout the 09-10 regular season. Shipping out Wideman makes it more likely that the B's re-sign Boychuk and/or Stuart.
Now to see if the ship out Thomas. He's been rumored to be a trade priority. He's got an NTC but you've got to think he'd okay a trade to a playoff team rather than be a backup. Once that is done, they've just got to get rid of Ryder and I'll be a happy man.

Turco and Theodore? If you think that Nabokov best years are past then Turco is almost 80 years old. You were talking about getting an younger goalie but with Turco and Theodore is the right opposite. Theodore is also a bad choice, yeshe got a good season but look at the team he got ahead of him, far better than the Sharks. Plus, I think Theodore sucks more in the West than the East,
