He was supposed first to be with the rookie. I think he was doing so well that with all the other players that retired they decide to give him the chance for the full game. Indeed it's impressive but I think he deserved it.

With the retirement of Eberle and the "promotion" of Skinner, P.K. Subban as been added to the rookie group. I'm happy for him he really deserved to be there, I don't know why he wasn't even choose at the start

Anybody watch the Allstar Fantasy draft last night? The Sedins get to play against each other for the first time in their life and Phil Kessel got picked last..... and for his effort won a car and got to donate 20k to his favorite charities in his name. Not bad for getting picked last if you ask me.

I like the new format.

Although, I do wish they'd stop with all the gimmicky talk about "OMG! It's just like when they were kids!". Since the inception of the Winter Classic, there's been way too much of it.

But still, I'm looking forward to seeing how it works out. I'll be rooting for Team Lidstrom, plus, of course, Claude Giroux from Team Staal.

I'm happy that the douche as been picked last. You gotta love Ovy with his big smile taking a picture of him all alone.

I'm not gonna pick any team for the game though. I never watched alot the All-Stars game but with the new way it's working I'm gonna give it a try. Can't wait to see Giroux showing his skills out there.

Havlat's got good time these days. He's been producing more than point per game in last 2 months so it makes sense a bit. And in the All-Star game he scored 3 assists. Not bad, I'd say.

Oh, I haven't "seen" him for a while, I remember only the early games of the season he make nothing. But he played good All-star game.

The last 2 deadline were so boring, I don't know what I should expect.

Justin Williams resigns with Kings. New, 4-year contract is worth 14,6 mills.

Chris Phillips resigns with Senators. 3-year contract, which includes no-trade clause, is worth 9,25 mills.

Panthers trade Allen to the Canes for Samsonov, wasn't expecting him leaving. Oh and one funny quote on RDS : " Wideman is maybe the missing spark for the Caps".

What ever happened to Schremp? Wasn't he highly touted a few years back and now he's on the waiver wire??!!

I'm still bored with the trades by the way...mainly because the Pens seem to be done dealing. There have been some decent moves today though...just none I'm interested in.

Wasn't Schremp picked up on waivers by the Islanders last year (or earlier this year)? I think he's just one of those guys that had a nice career at lower levels but never could make his skills work as well at the NHL level.

He was picked last year. We talked about him quite a few times already at TBL. And we have all said the same as you. Really good in the junior ( was at London when they were the most powerful team ) and did kinda well in the AHL I think. This guy got awesome hands but no heart I think.

Is it just me, or has the trade deadline become a non-event?

I was watching TSN's coverage and Chiarelli pretty much said it, most teams did their key moves during the weeks prior to the deadline to have more time and not be rushed into last minute decisions. It was pretty lame yeah, the only highlight being Pierre McGuire's mic falling off...unfortunately they told him

I know in the past few years Chiarelli made his setup moves in advance of the deadline but couldn't make the bigger deal(s) that he wanted on deadline day, so he got left without. This year he made sure to get it all done in advance. I'm guessing a lot of GMs are figuring that out and doing their major work a week or two before the deadline.

Chiarelli was in specific situation. He wanted Kaberle and therefore Burke had to negotiate his no-trade clause to be cancelled. That's something he couldn't left to one day.

Overall, the total amount of trades made on deadline day dropped from 31 last season to 16 this season.
I'm surprised by Arnott willing to leave NJ. He made heart-breaking announcements when he returned there. And now? He asked Lamoriello to leave.

I don't care as much as in the past. 4-5 years ago I was always excited about that day and was impatient to came back from school to check all those trades. Now I'm sure because alot of teams are near the cap limit they don't trade that much now.

The salary cap has made the trade deadline less of a wild and unpredictable event. In the past, if a team had the assets to offer, they could add a big piece to their team if they were willing to take on the pay or give up the assets for a rental. Now the salary cap handcuffs a lot of teams that might have been in the position to make one of those deals. For the most part, if a team can afford to spend up to the salary cap, they're already close to it. So now teams have to work deals so that money going out equals money coming in. They're required to either work them into that first deal or make side deals to accommodate it.

I guess thats why we are seeing more deals on or around draft day and up till free agency as teams have all summer to figure out how they will fit under the cap.

Bettman received a 5 years contract extension. Guess who can give him that? Boston's owner......
