I have been seriously struggling with the game when playing at Pro difficulty. Although I can get a lot of shots off (usually 25-35 per game on 6 min periods) and I can out-shoot the weaker teams, I just cannot score. The AI can score on average on every 5th shot whereas I seem to score on every 15-20th shot...

I've decreased the game speed one point, decreased faceoff difficulty one point and reduced the AI puck control two points - this has made the game a bit closer to my skill level (although it is still a challenge - especially against equal and stronger teams). However I just can't score! I have increased my shot accuracy one point and decreased the AI goalie reactions one point, but to no avail. I've read that the AI can appear somewhat turbo charged at times; so I'll try putting shot accuracy and goalie reactions to the extreme ends. I don't want to make the game a walkover - I just want a realistic challenge.

It seems there's quite a step up from Rookie to Pro. Playing Rookie is far too much of a walkover - it's like playing on the PP the whole game!

That's probably the only problem with hockey games, the difficulty. The gap between each stage is ridiculous sometimes. I know I play on pro at Be A Pro and I find it well suit for me but I just control 1 guy. I should try a quick match just to see what I can do with an entire team.

I really don't know if I'm going to buy this version. I used to buy a lot of NHL games on SNES, Playstation and PS2, but the first NHL I bought on PS3 was NHL 12, and I still play it.

I played the NHL13 demo and I thought the new physical engine for skating is really good, way more realistic. The replays seems to be far more accurate too (In NHL12, mort of the actions replayed are bodycheks, and goals of course). But it's a detail compared to the real gameplay improvement.

But I don't know if there are enough improvements to make me spend money for this version. Maybe I will when EA will close down the online servers for NHL12, but still I may wait for the NHL14.

I heard somewhere, but I can't recall where, that in the "be a pro" mode, you can also play in Europe, which was impossible before (Just the CHL, AHL and NHL).

Can anyone confirm/infirm this statement? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure Be-a-Pro is just the NHL, AHL and CHL. I don't remember seeing any Euro option when starting my Be-a-Pro game.

To be honest, I don't think there's any point in buying successive versions of NHL. The changes are always relatively minute (other than the annual headline/hype feature - this year being the physics engine). I personally think you'd get better value for money buying every other version (or even less frequently than this).

I agree. I started doing this with Football Manager, buying every other release, and I've found that each version I buy feels much more exciting and progressive. Not to mention that you simply get more time to enjoy the game, rather than getting only a few months into it before thinking about trashing it for the new version. I'll definitely be using this strategy with NHL and Madden

Yep, I agree with you guys. That's why I waited a long time before buying NHL12, there were huge differences between this one and the last I've had. That's why I can't already get bored with NHL12, it's still pretty impressive for me. Even if I enjoy the new physics engine in NHL13, I'm pretty sure I'll wait to see what the next versions will have to offer.

Definitly too expensive for a game with little improvements, and a new cover...

Is this a bug in the game that when you are the best scorer of the team (9pts in 4 games) and just did a 2 goals 1 assit game that the coach drops you on the second line because you need to "improve your statistics". Seriously f u coach. :-D

I have serious freezing problems with the game right now. After pressing start the game is constantly freezing when it tries to log on the server even if I'm offline. Does anyone got the same problems recently???

Mine just froze this morning. I'm not sure if it's the same as what you're seeing, but it was right at the beginning video that leads to the 'Press Start Button' screen. I hit X to skip it, and it froze. Thankfully, though, that's all I've seen in terms of freezing.

As for the coach, I've come to just ignore him :D . Seriously, though, I do find the feedback pretty useless. Playing as a goalie, for example, I think there are only three or four different lines programmed in, and you see all of them pretty much every game. Even the ratings don't seem to be worth anything - I had one game in particular where I almost single-handedly put us behind 6-0, and my ratings as a goalie were an A+, A-, and an A+ :-?
