Re: How's it going in EHM2007? What team Are You?
So I have a career going with the Maple Leafs, using the unfaking database. I just finished the 2013-2014 season and it's been one of my worst ever. If only I could find a stat for total man games lost to injury in the game.
Only two players played a full 82 game season. 40-year old Andrew Brunette, and 2nd year Jame Hougen (1st round pick, 9th overall in the 2010 draft). Other than that injuries, suspension, Olympics or poor play kept other players out of the lineup. The scheuled was a little messed up that the NHL season started up again before the Olympics were over, so Tom Preissing playing for the US was not available for 2 games after the Olympic Break.
Colaicovo missed 2 games due to suspension.
The worst injuries...Clarke MacArthur (a waiver pickup in 08 training camp) was injured in a pre-season game and out for 4 months. Dustin Penner was also injured in practice during the pre-season was out for a month, cam back played a small handful of games and was out for another 2 weeks. And Niittymaki was also out for 4 months after injury in a game at the end of OCTOBER. We were 8-3-1 at that point topping the division and 2nd in the East. And then in January I lost my backup Josh Harding (who was already struggling) for 8 days. We finsihed 12th with a record of 30-40-12. T.J. Oshie (a mid-season waiver pickup) was out for a month. Joe Underwood (2nd round '08 draft pick, defenceman) was out for 4 weeks at one point. Nick Foligno was out for 2 months. Mike Fisher was out 3 times in the season at two weeks each time. Eric Brewer was out for 3 weeks.
I think at worst time I had somewhere between 5-7 players on IR at the same time. At this point I was trying to figure out what the hell was going on. Check my personell and realized I had ZERO Trainers. None of them resigned because they wanted too much money, and I lost track of how many left or retired and never hired any replacmets. I hired three trainers at that point, it did help the injuries decrease, but it was too late, we fell out of contention quickly.
At least this draft looks nice and deep.

Oh....and to top it all off, Mikael Holmqvist AND Clarke MacArthur both went down in the last game of the season, Holmqvist for 2 weeks and MacArthur for another month.

How in the world Zetteberg and Spezza are already retired and got their regens? They're not THAT old in the game.

2019/2020 season with Ducks. No real success yet but I hope my rebuilding is eventually awarded
Current lines (*my draft picks):
Mozzini - Blomqvist* - Helenius*
Kadraba - Getzlaf - Kramer*
Bartosek - Marvin - Moore
Shumakov - O'Brien* - Erlander*
Grossman - Zelenchev*
Jensen - Lapointe
Proulx* - Thompson*
Varlamov - Roberts*
I'm very happy with my offence because most of the key players are in their mid-20s so I have great fire power for at least ten seasons. Getzlaf is 36 and has couple of seasons left before O'Brien or one of my prospects from Iowa takes hes place. Defensively I'm not doing that great... Many of my first rounders have pretty much failed (Proulx: 2014 #17, Thompson: 2013 #56) but I still hope they keep developing so they could form the second pairing. Goalies haven't been that great either but I think it's mostly because of my poor defenders. Varlamov's stats are 0,892 and 7,79 avr, Roberts' 0,873 and 7,35. At the moment I'm 13th in the western conference (29-37-4) and the playoff race is over. Trying to land a couple of defenders from the draft and keep on rebuilding

Other team I play with is Tampa Bay. After 42 games Tampa is 7th in Eastern Conference. Interesting thing in Tampa is that first time ever I've superb 4th line: Ryan Craig-Chris Gratton-Mark Smith. Ok, names doesn't sound very good, especially that all of them had hard last season (Craig: 77 games, 25 points, +9 and 7.04 av. rating at 2nd/3rd line lw, Gratton: 74, 17 points, -13 and 6.82 av.rating at 4th line center and Smith: 53, 10 points, -6 and 6.85 av. rating at def. roles/13th forward).Jypfan92 wrote:I'm playing with Hurricanes in edited orig.db and I'm doing pretty well: after 35 games I was 3rd in Conference. I've played offensive game and 5 of my players have scored over 30 points, 8 players have over 20 points and 12 players over 10. Ward has been ok in goal. My rookie d-man Jamie McBain has been superb: earlier he scored point/game, but now after 35 games he has 23 points (3rd most in NHL by d-men). His +/- is +7 and he has got 32 penalty minutes. His av. rating is 7.57. He has scored 3rd most points by rookie skaters and he has 2nd most assists and 2nd best +/-. His av. rating is best by rookies. It seems to be that he is real future Norris Trophy candidate.
Now they're working well together: after 15 games they we're my best scorers, even though they play only 8-13 minutes per game and I've such a big names like Lecavalier, St. Louis, Stamkos, Loui Eriksson, Stillman, Zidlicky, Smolenak etc.
After 42 games Gratton has scored 10+14=24 points (7th most in my team), +11 (5th best in my team) and av. rating 7.43 (8th best in my team). Craig has scored 4+10=14 points (13th), +11 (5th) and av. rating 7.12 (12th). Smith has scored 8+9=17 points (10th), +14 (4th) and av. rating 7.48 (7th).

There is an "unfaking" database that is used either with or without the Lidas rosters. The unfaking database ensures that all of the players in the database are the real players, there are no fake players until the regens come into play several years into the game.OliverBeckham wrote:What is unfaking?

I started EHM07 again as unemployed and with new Lidas roster. I got GM spot in Finnish Mestis League and the team is Joensuun Jokipojat. Jokipojat is 6th on the league and they have played about 15 games. Let's see how things go...I try to update my game here.

I'm in 2019-20 season with the Caps.
First, I must point out that I have alot of rules to myself, that restrict me taking advantage over the AI.
Well... For some reason my team has slumped for the last two seasons. Before the last two seasons, we had never missed the playoffs, now, after 30-something games, we're number 14 in the East (Pittsburgh is no 15). I've just kicked my coach in the butt and have hired Rick Tocchet in his place. Two wins in a row since. Hopefully more coming up. I really, really, really want to make the freking playoffs!

Pavel Datsyuk was choosen NHL All-Star Game MVP at 2008-2009 season. He scored 1+1 for Eastern All-Stars. Sounds normal and uninteresting? Yes it sounds, but when you hear Datsyuk's role in Eastern All-Stars, you'll know what's my point. Okay, here it comes: he played as 4th line center, matching 4 minutes and 44 seconds in a game

Playing the Red Wings are about to start my 6th season with them
Have gotten 50+ Wins each season and gone to the final 2 times without a cup
Also I've been doing it like wings does IRL and have kept my signings to FA and calling up bodies from Grand Rapids.
Except for the 3rd season when both Lidström and Rafalski retired and none of the defenders I tried to get via FA signed with me, offered a contract to like 8-9 decent defenders, thus I had to aquire a right shooter and it came down to Bogosian.
My lineup as of the beginning of 2012/2013 season
Franzen-Datsyuk-Vrbata
Pacioretty-Z-Cleary
Jämtin-Filppula-Ferraro
Abdelkader-Helm-Miller
Kronwall-Bogosian
Stuart-Ericsson
Kindl-Shattenkirk
some notable stats so far is the mule's 131 points in 99 playoff games
the mule has the 4 last season scored 63/61/83/77 goals, with 60+ helpers each of the season.
Datsyuk has 3 seasons in a row with 90+ helpers.
Gotta sort out my defense so I can win a bloody cup.

Sounds like the problems I have in the game too. For some reason, Detroit is not the place that FA's want to play in EHM 2007.ubbestubben wrote:Also I've been doing it like wings does IRL and have kept my signings to FA and calling up bodies from Grand Rapids.

Sometimes it goes with the reputation of the team. I know it's the Wings but in EHM I don't know if they have a high one.

What I find interesting is that my team reputation actually dropped after I won the Stanley Cup.....philou21 wrote:Sometimes it goes with the reputation of the team. I know it's the Wings but in EHM I don't know if they have a high one.

Lol!! Is Lidstrom and Rafalski retired that same year? If yes, there's maybe your answer. I don't know if when you lose key players and your team is a little weaker if it can drop the reputation.

On a side note, I notice that we are really shy on people writing full stories about their seasons like back in the good 'ol days of EHM. I'm always up for a good read, and it looks like some of these seasons would make for great stories -- any thoughts?

Re: How's it going in EHM2007? What team Are You?
So I decided to continue my save that I had started for the Thrashers challenge. I did 4 seasons with the Thrashers for the challenge and then on July 1st of 2010, I resigned from the team. I was hoping to pick up another coaching job from one of the weaker NHL teams right away but that didn't happen. It seems that teams had already done their firing at the end of the last season and those job had already been snatched up. So finally in November, the United States hired me to coach their team in one of the tournaments. It wasn't an U20 or U18. It was basically all guys that weren't in the NHL or AHL. I had never done this before. I had a couple guys I had heard of but most were unknowns who played in Europe. We didn't do that great in the tournament but it was an experience.
Then in December the US was looking for someone to coach their U20 team at the World Junior Championships. I jumped right on that one! There were a few good players on the roster but a whole bunch of junk too. So I cleared off the guys that didn't deserve to be there and went looking for talent. There were some guys that I had scouted in the last draft, so they stood out because they were still on my shortlist. I also searched high and low for others. I ended up with 6 guys that played junior in the CHL. The rest were either college freshman, high school prep, or on midget teams (my 3rd goalie is a 15 year old playing for Little Caesars). 7 of my players had already been drafted by NHL teams, 3 of which were 1st round picks! One of the 3 1st round picks was the kid I had just selected with the Thrashers 1st round pick in the draft over the summer.
So this U20 club got off to a rocky start. I figured it was a short job, so I didn't put much time into it. I just set the lines. They lost their first 2 games. I was in trouble, I figured I was going to hurt my GM rating and lose out on getting an NHL job because of this. That's when I decided I had to really take control of this roster. Instead of just setting up lines, I also handled the tactics. That's when things turned around. We started winning. Then we qualified for the playoffs. Before I knew it, we were playing Canada for the Gold. And we won! That was a proud moment!
Before my run as the US U20 GM, I was watching NHL jobs. I applied for an opening with the Avalanche (which I wasn't too excited about since we had used the Avs in a challenge not long ago). I got passed over. The Columbus Blue Jackets job was insecure and then went safe again. It went insecure again while I was taking my U20 team to the gold and finally in late January, they fired their GM! So I quickly applied for the job and on January 28th, 2011 I was given the job. So now I am the GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets!
The first thing I notice is that this team's defense is weak! They had some guys I had never heard of. A 30 year old named Jason Garrison? Another 30 year old named Mike Lundin? Then they had a 40 year old Chris Pronger. His technical and mental attributes were awesome! Unfortunately, he skated so slowly he'd move faster if he fell on the ice and just slid. He had a 7 in Acceleration and a 4 in Speed! He also didn't have the Strength (12) or Stamina (11) that he used to. They had a 24 year old John Moore who was injured but even if he wasn't, he didn't look very special, a 6th/7th defenseman at best. Fortunately, they did have Nicklas Grossman. He looks really good at this point. And they had a 21 year old named Jesse Forsberg, taken 17th overall in the 2007 draft. I like him! So the defense needs a lot of work.
The forwards actually looked top notch and I had to wonder why this team had been under-performing so badly. They still had Filatov, Nash, Vermette, Brassard, Johansen, and Voracek. Not that they're offensive guys but they also had Dorsett and Boll from the original rosters. Add to this Kulemin, who they traded Stralman for back in 2009. And they've also got the Norwegian center named Sverre Jacobsen that I had mentioned in the Challenge thread. He was drafted 1st overall in 2009. Oh and in goal, I still have Steve Mason but my backup is poor.
So I've got some options. I decide I'm not going to play this team by challenge rules. I'll make trades as I see fit but I won't go crazy and exploit the game's shortcomings. The first thing I do is look to unload Pronger. He's making almost $5M per season for the current season and 2 additional ones. That's a waste. He should have already retired. I'm not keeping him on my team. I start looking around at other teams. I have to make sure I take back some money because my team is near the salary floor. I make a couple offers that don't look like they're going anywhere. Suddenly, I see the Kings offering Drew Doughty to another team for somebody I didn't find all that special. So I make an offer. They counter. I come back at them again and they accept. This is the deal...
To CBJ
Drew Doughty
To LAK
Chris Pronger
Landon Ferraro
Ted Purcell
I was thrilled with this deal! My board had recently told me that they didn't think Ferraro deserved to be on the team. He was 23 years old and couldn't be sent down without clearing waivers. He was a good skater but otherwise unimpressive. The Blue Jackets had acquired him and Richard Panik from the Red Wings for RJ Umberger back in 2008. He never met expectations I guess. Purcell was 29 and playing on my minor league affiliate (this team doesn't have an AHL affiliate, only ECHL and CHL). He had signed a 2 year deal with the Blue Jackets in 2009 after spending a few years with the Lightning. He didn't figure into our plans. So I got rid of an old, slow player with a bloated contract and two guys that weren't going to play for my team. In return I got a top notch 25 year old defenseman. I was very pleased!
My next deal wasn't as big a thing. I saw the Hurricanes shopping Keaton Ellerby. He's 26 years old and looks like a decent bottom pairing defenseman. Their roster was pretty full, so I had to deal out an unsigned prospect. Here's the deal...
To CBJ
Keaton Ellerby
Predators 3rd round pick in 2011
To CAR
rights to Cliff Sather
7th round pick in 2011
Sather was a 5'7" LW prospect (18 years old) with 3rd line potential. He was taken in the 7th round of the 2010 draft. So I wasn't giving up anything there! And obviously the 7th round picked added to the mix was just a pot sweetener. In return, I got another draft pick (we didn't have a 4th, 5th, or 6th round pick in the next draft) and a 3rd is pretty good.
I still wanted to make one more trade to fix my defense. I needed another LD and I saw Pitkanen's name in trade talks for other teams. I had to get in there and make a deal for him. So here's what it took...
To CBJ
Joni Pitkanen
Stars 3rd round pick in 2011
To DAL
Alex Petrovic
rights to Sergei Mozyakin
So I added a #1 or #2 defenseman in Pitkanen and got another 3rd round pick. Petrovic was a 22 year old LD/RD with good height (6'4"). He was pretty good but I didn't have the time to wait for him to fully develop. I don't know why the Stars had an interest in Mozyakin. He's an extremely talented forward but he's 33 years old and he's never come over to the NHL. I doubt he's going to come over now.
So that's what I've made for trades and I think this is the team I'm going to go with. From this point on, I'm going to try not to trade and just develop from within. One of my unsigned prospects is the 2nd overall pick from the 2010 draft. He was also on my gold medal winning U20 team. His name is Michael York. He's an 18 year old 5'11" 178 lbs RW from Illinois that plays for Kingston of the OHL. He's got some real potential. My scouts say he's a skilled forward with 1st line potential and compare him to a more talented version of Bobby Ryan. He's got "green" (great) ratings in Acceleration, Anticipation, Flair, Influence, and Work Rate. He's got "red" (poor) ratings in Aggression, Faceoffs, Hitting, and Positioning. So he's purely and offensive highlight reel. Still, he should be interesting to watch develop.
Anyhow, here are my lines...
Nash - Johansen - Voracek
Filatov - Jacobsen - Kulemin
Vermette - Brassard - Dadonov
Boll - Kana - Dorsett
Grossman - Doughty
Pitkanen - Forsberg
Moore - Marttinen
Mason - Jarvinen
Healthy Scratches: Ellerby, Lundin, Moss
I might work Ellerby into the lineup if Moore falters.
The team has only played 3 games since I took the reigns. The first was a 6-3 loss to the Canucks. I wasn't surprised. I was still feeling out the team and they hadn't learned my tactics yet. We had a 5-3 win over the Blues. And then a win over the Kings that went into the shootout 2-2 and we won the shootout. Then we had a long lay off due to the All-Star break. My deals were made during the break and I'm just about to play my first game with the changes I've made to the team. I also made some staff changes but I've kept the head coach (Blysma).
Re: How's it going in EHM2007? What team Are You?
Sounds like good job with the USA U20 team, B. The Thrashers Challenge was an interesting one, so it's nice to see you taking the story further.
I see your Blue Jackets are pretty young on centre. How are Johansen and Jacobsen (cool name similarity) doing?
Lundin I saw in the Tampa Bay lineup yesterday vs Pittsburgh, and Garrison I think plays for Florida IRL... Well, Pitkänen and Doughty should sort your defensive problems.

Re: How's it going in EHM2007? What team Are You?
Thanks!
My centers are pretty young. I suppose I could've gone with Brassard and Vermette as my top 2 centers but I really liked the Johansen and Jacobsen's style of play. Johansen is a playmaking forward but he's also strong. He doesn't hit much but he's got nice balance and strength, so I can use the Overload the Slot tactic. Jacobsen is the same way. In the 5 games they've played now since I took over, Johansen has 2 goals and 7 assists. Jacobsen hasn't done quite as well. He has just 3 assists in that stretch. We'll see how it goes though. If he's still struggling after 10 games, I might shuffle the lines a bit and bring Vermette or Brassard up to the 2nd line.
