ehm:ea constant losing
hello
i have played the ehm series all the way back since the first eastside hockey manager release, and have always managed to build strong teams and was very successful on the first release. however since 2005 onwards i constantly build strong teams with good players but my team always wind up losing, its so frustrating and feels like a constant ice tilt is in motion what is going on?
in ehm:ea i am playing as the maple leafs and build a pretty good team and even in the season preview the game picked my team to win the leauge, however the season started as usual i was 1st for the first few games and then the same predictable losing continues and now i am down to 9th outside the playoffs halfway through the season when i was picked to be the league winners?
what is up with this game. any ideas for a confused frustrated player?

Try using the REDWINGS Playmover tactic from EHM07 here in the download section. It works in EA and I'm sure you'll win with it:

Yeah, it's a great tactic, here are my stats with this tactic:

- Scored 350+ goals for 4 seasons with the Pens, winning two Cups.
- Scored 350+ goals in 3 out of 4 seasons with the Oilers (349 in season 4), losing one Stanley Cup final.
Yeah, you do concede a lot too, but the win ratio is great.

Certainly works well with the right group of players. I would recommend it to anybody, then just do the individual tweaks on your own

Yeah copying other tactics that others have to me is lame. Not as fun.
I just experiment with tactics left and right....still do to see what I get. Often go back to one of the two I have had success with, but like to experiment. All my losing streaks which are not very often...are because I was playing around.

The thing is that i have a hard time determining why i lose. If all stats are in my favour then where does it go wrong lol

Rubbish goaltending and a few other things. ANd also well...give the other team some credit for rope a dope. Hockey is hardly a game that can be totally defined by stats.

I'm going to play the 1st season over and over again till I can get top 4 in the conference. I've seen CPU do it in my Philly game, so I figured I can do it with Penguins as well. As long as I don't know how to set tactics it's no use getting "better" players, cause the Pens have a pretty good roster now.

Sounds like the Pens are true to reality in your game. Not good enough.

I like creating my own tactics as well, but for new players, having a basis for a good tactic is never a bad thing
The red play mover tactic is still nice to use for new players to get a feel for the game.

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
creating tactics by myself is totally useless (check the player ratings on the pic below).....using own logical tactics mostly always results in those ratings and stats - close to giving up on the game as the only good results ppl posted on this forum are with good to great teams with default tactics - not really a challenge to win a cup with from-AI-robbed scoring lines. Being creative brings nothing as most goalies play every game like on AHL level, getting around 10 penalties a game and so on.
Maybe one can explain the effects of certain tactic settings, i for myself didn´t get it so far

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
I really can't get my team to work, it's useless. I mean, the Pens aint a top contender, but having less than 0.500 win percentage should not be the case. I've tried Batdad's suggestions with the D-guys being defensive, dumping and passing safe. I've tried playing to my strenghts (for example, Perron - Crosby - Hornqvist line has +17 deflections so I set up overload + D's shooting). It just doesn't work and the main seems to be that my team is not finishing.
When I look at the chances the opponents convert on they do a tic-tac-passing thing and score super easy. My team never scores on those chances..

...and that way penalties usually look like (tactics not even remotely set on agressive)....the icing on the cake is 39:34, hooking and crosschecking in the same second, happens almost in every game
- scoring way too high, penalties way too high, match engine basically a joke for weaker teams

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
I guess you're right. I've tried about 5 times and keep ending up between 0.450 and 0.550 win percentage. This is without trading, cause I like to "sim" the first season according to real life. I think Fleury is really really bad in the TBL rosters. Also the Pens defense is horrific with the likes of Ben Lovejoy and Rob Scuderibatdad wrote:Sounds like the Pens are true to reality in your game. Not good enough.

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
Half the fun of this game is experimenting with tactics. Do you have the right type of coaches for your team? are your coaches good tactically? Do you make smart lineup decisions and have players in proper spots? Do you play to those players strengths? Do you have individual tactics set to players strengths? Coaches like to match lines or not (if you do the opposite less success). Practicing too hard? Practicing to soft? How much time you spend practice PP and PK? If in a losing streak have you ever had a guy on your team come out and lose his marbles and go after someone and change the feeling on the team? Too many trades in a short period of time? Chemistry between players there? Juggling lines and tactics too much> NOt enough?
COuld probably give you 40 more reasons but well...I am sure that it is the game and the fact you cannot win with the teams you are playing with is the fault of the game.
Meanwhile I am 50-10-9 with the first year FLyers without having made a trade, and have 1 new assistant coach, and 2 new scouts as well as a waiver wire pick up (Kostka)
So....since the Flyers suck in the game and I am winning....it cannot be the game guys. Just need to try more things (Or less and maybe be patient)

I've got a 1-2-2 1-4 checking system with depending on the line diff zone tactics. I've got the kch line up front with overload slot and cross cross breakout. Set back checking to hard and passing safe. Second line depends on opponent. If they're fast I set it to positional. If my line is faster then wings crossed. Third and fourth morse defensively. My d is set on safe passing defensive and proper dumping. Goalie doesn't play the puck. Pp is around 18%, pk is 80% but I think I lack the forwards to play defensively. Most forwards have way less then 15 PC and pos. I have a training regime of 60/20/20 with all players except for te old ones training 3x int and 3x medium.
Most of my goals get scored against depth lines. They're in minus department. Also my third line d are. Because they are slow and can't pass they get outplayed and turnover the puck too many times.
I've tried. Not saying my team can't play better, I'm just at the point where I've explored most of my options. And yes I set tacs also on personal level and I tend to aim for more turnovers and less give aways then opponent. It just doesn't work out

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
Thats a really good list batdad. I had 07 figured out pretty good and most stuff is more or less the same with EA. I do think there are some subtle differences but hey, if the game is too easy it won't have any replay value but if it's too tough it can also be a negative. Problem is not everybody is a guru like youbatdad wrote:Half the fun of this game is experimenting with tactics. Do you have the right type of coaches for your team? are your coaches good tactically? BTW, I am having a bit more trouble with EA..... Have not quite figured out the sweet spot yet. Also some of my favorite players I like to employ are worse in this database but some that I had to dump before are better. Makes it more fun I think.

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
I have a question regarding the game stat "Boardplays won" In 07 I wanted and usually got 50% + but in EA my boardplay stats seem to be really bad most of the time. What attributes should I be aiming for. Anything besides player size, strength, checking, hitting and positioning? Does the new attribute "play away from the puck" matter for this or is it an offense type attribute. Am I missing anything?

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
By doing the opposite if it comes to line matching has less success, do you mean that their tactic is less successful or mine?
Answer on the previous poster: off the puck only accounts for the offensive zone.

I wouldn't pay attention too much to AvR in some circumstances. In game with Montreal Backes is my third line C behind Pleks and Chucky, I have him there as he is a defensive dynamo who is constantly causing turnovers, what I have noticed is that even with his great face-off percentage, multiple hits, takeaways and no turnovers...he is still finishing with a 6 AvR, game after game, despite the fact that he has been a huge reason as to why Carey Price has gone 8 or 9 games giving up two goals or less in a row.
I also agree with the setting your own tactics. Finding something that works is a major part of what makes the game so fun. For example. Last season, my team was dynamite, but I lost in the semi-final. I made three minor tweaks and I started the season for the first 20 games .500 and was out of the playoffs. I went back to what I was using previous and my team turned it around. I tend to disable unit tactics. I set a consistent tactic for my team and alter player roles in personal tactics. I find setting different tactics for individual lines confuses the players and they run all over the place.

Re: ehm:ea constant losing
In EHM EA it is appearing to be that like Orange is the New Black. 6 is the new 7. 6.5 is the new 8, and 9 is the new 12
