EHM The Blue Line

I've done some recent testing using the TBL 11.2 database and the ECK 3.2 database.

• here the testing data was used to look at forward Player Roles/Attributes https://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/v ... 84#p241084
• and here the data was used to look at NHL forward Attribute data both at startup and 30 years later https://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/v ... 85#p241085

In this thread I'll be posting data from the same testing, looking at the PA of "draft classes" (using Year Of Birth rather than actual draft classes for ease on compiling the data)



I've got the PA data by birth year divided by position (G-D-F), and...

• looking at players age 19-33 in the database at startup (1985-1999 YOB)
• looking at "near future drafts" (2000-2009 YOB)
• looking at drafts 20-30 years in the future (2020-2030 YOB)

I've got a third test save using 11.2 but checking the boxes to add all possible players before startup, and I'll be posting that data too for at least the near future drafts time period.

There are 5 different PA categories/ranges...
100-200
150-200 (in blue)
120-139
140-169
170-200


I've also noted the CA range for...
the top 10 goaltenders by CA
the top 20 defensemen by CA
the top 40 forwards by CA


ALSO - I added to the goaltender data, in the far right column, the total number of players for that Year Of Birth (all positions, CA 1-200)

So, looking at the startup data...

• For players (all positions) with a 100-200 PA, the ECK database has 10% more (ECK 6973, TBL 6332)
• For players (all positions) with a 150-200 PA, the ECK database has 24% more (ECK 464, TBL 374)
• For players (all positions) with a 170-200 PA, the ECK database has 160% more (ECK 151, TBL 58)

• For goaltenders with a 100-200 PA, the ECK database has 7% more (ECK 716, TBL 667)
• For goaltenders with a 150-200 PA, the two databases are really close (ECK 50, TBL 48)
• For goaltenders with a 170-200 PA, the ECK database has 56% more (ECK 14, TBL 9)

• For defensemen with a 100-200 PA, the ECK database has 36% more (ECK 2571, TBL 1893)
• For defensemen with a 150-200 PA, the ECK database has 66% more (ECK 174, TBL 105)
• For defensemen with a 170-200 PA, there's a huge difference (ECK 57, TBL 11)

• For forwards with a 100-200 PA, the TBL database has 2% more (TBL 3772, ECK 3686)
• For forwards with a 150-200 PA, the ECK database has 9% more (ECK 240, TBL 221)
• For forwards with a 170-200 PA, the ECK database has 111% more (ECK 80, TBL 38)

Something I've noticed during the data compiling - players potential "secondary positions" (and the frequency of their being a 1)

What I mean by secondary positions is
- LD for RD
- RD for LD
- C and RW for a LW
- C and LW for a RW
- RW and LW for a C

I'm not sure they should ever be 1, but they IMO really shouldn't be for anyone with a junior level or higher (and NHLers just shouldn't have a 1).

Wouldn't most players at most CA/PA levels have at least a 6-10 or a 7-10 in their position's secondary position(s)?




What I'm talking about is, for example

• LD with a 20 for LD and a 1 for RD
• RW with a 20 for RW and a 1 for C and a 1 for LW

From recent testing, using TBL 11.2 + after 10 years of simming

• Out of 11,069 LD, 33% have a 1 for RD (and also when below 10 the secondary position is disproportionately a 1 - 3,623 LD have a 1 for RD, in comparison to only 247 LD that have 2-9 for RD.....)
• looking at Player Roles for those receiving a 1 it seemed to be all types
• seems to affect all CA levels too (28% of LD with a 150-200 CA have a 1 for RD; 28% of LD with a 130-200 CA have a 1 for RD; 43% of LD with a 100-200 CA have a 1 for RD)

From the same testing

• Out of 11,937 RW 37% (4,451) have a 1 for C and a 1 for LW
• For 33 of the 4,451 it's a a little weird - these players have a 20 for RW, a 1 for C and LW, and a 19 for RD! and a defensive Player Role! (the 33 players had a variety of defensive Player Roles)

On average per year the TBL database is producing over a draft round worth of top quality NHL talent per year, with an elite/superstar player (190-200 PA) just less than half the time.

On average per year the ECK database is producing more than 3 draft rounds worth of top quality NHL talent, with about two or three being elite/superstar players (190-200 PA) per year.



Here's looking at the total number of 190-200 PA players over the eleven years
