Absence of non-playing profile?

I am thinking about getting Wade Flaherty for my UHL team. When I go to make an offer, it says I can also hire him as a coach, but he does not have a non-playing profile. So how can I figure out if he would make a good coach too?

You should be able to view his profile as a non-player if they are offering that kind of contract in front of you to choose.

And yet that's not on the menu on the left side of his profile. So how can I see it?

Not necessarily going to be there. With guys of certain vintage, they can have the player coach tag as well, and you can hire as "player-coach". Some who want to be coaches will have the info for non-playing profile. Others will not, as they are not yet interested in ending their career as a player. This happens when guys are getting close to retirement age in many cases.

So what you are saying is that I cannot know his stats unless I hire him as player-coach?

And even then when you do (tried this once) his stats for non-player may or may not show up. Since I only did it once, and they did show, I cannot say 100% if they will show up for all guys. Sorry.

Fair enough.

I may be wrong but I believe that this only occurs with players who are about to do their 1st non-playing job. I think the point of it is so that you can't tell how good of a coach an ex-player will be, like in real life, until you sign them. Once he's signed his stats should appear.

Although it was a good theory, i think you're wrong on this one, laskey16

Often, you'll see retired players available to become coach (or whatever other staff position) and you can clearly see their staff attributes right away, even if it would be their first staff job.
I tend to think batdad get it here. The guy don't want to end his playing career, but might be interested in a player/coach role. Not a full staff duty yet.

So what does a player/coach do other than being a player? I see him on the personnel list, but not on the practice list.

I always viewed a player/coach as a glorified team captain.

I've seen bugs concerning this.
If you offer player/coach contract to player without non-players stats. When the players leave the teams, he stays on the personnel list. I've seen this in my games like 2-3 times... So I won't offer that kind of contracts anymore

Even having a goon as a "coach" is funny IMO.
Also, I've hired a un-retired player with staff skills as assistant GM and he counted on my players maximum contracts limits... I was forced to sack him later in the season after a trade altered my players count and offered the job to good ole Andy Moog instead
Some obscure glitches heh?:p

Yeah I had that happen to me. And I tried to fire the guy, but could not. IT was really annoying and left me a coach short.

Maybe they just hang around and become PR representatives and such, like Guy Lafleur.

I had that recently with a Spanish player I signed for my "gooning-it-up" save with Romford in the EPL. I signed him in April as a player-coach, he retired as a player in July. He never had any coaching stats and is now on my personnel list as a Retired player.
