Lack of inspiration? Try this SAVE-GAME!
When I started this save-game, I originally planned to be Detroit Red Wings and Grand Rapids Griffins. But, the guys controlling Griffins kept getting better offers(I applied for them), so adding to those two teams are the Boston Bruins and Nashville Predators. Now, two seasons have been played in the game, and it's draft day, with a LOT of picks in the first round! Now, it's up to you what teams you want to play with. Everyone? Just one? Or maybe a couple of games with each team. It's up to you, but the teams looks something like this: - Find download-file at the bottom!
Detroit Red Wings
Winner of the last two Stanley Cups(Brad Richards earning the Conn Smythe on the last one). The original main team in the game. Solid team, contenders.
5th overall and 6th overall pick + another first round pick. A total of 11 picks in the draft!
Current Roster: This last season roster
Henrik Zetterberg - Pavel Datsyuk - Jarome Iginla
Johan Franzén - Brad Richards - Mats Zuccarello
Ryan Callahan - Darren Helm - Daniel Cleary
Tomas Tatar - Valtteri Filppula - Samuel Pahlsson
Cam Barker - Niklas Kronwall
Brad Stuart - Lubomir Visnovsky
Jakub Kindl - Jonathan Ericsson/Matt Lashoff
Jimmy Howard
Nikolai Khabibulin
What to do(suggestion)?:
Let Cory Emmerton, Andreas Lilja and Jonathan Ericsson walk. (outgoing contracts)
Other than that, it's up to you. Maybe find a goalie, Khabibulin is old(might retire).
Prospects:
Jesse Forsberg (RD) - Recently signed, is on the team, play him or put him at the Griffins.
Jordan Schroeder (C) - If you find room, promote him
Tomas Jurco (RW) - Could be promoted, if there is room.
Brendan Smith (LD) - Should be promoted
Ben Marshall (LD) - Sign this guy and put him on the Griffins
Grand Rapids Griffins:
Consists mainly of players from the Red Wings. If needed, sign a couple of free agency.
Boston Bruins:
Eastern Conference finalist.
Zdeno Chara - Recent Norris Trophy defenseman.
7th and 8th overall pick in the draft. Three first rounders and a total of 10 picks in the draft.
This last season roster:
Milan Lucic - Patrice Bergeron - Nathan Horton
Tyler Seguin - David Krejci - Erik Cole
Dan Carcillo - Marc Savard - Chris Kelly
Daniel Paille/Brad Marchand - Ryan Spooner - Zack Kassian
Kris Russell - Zdeno Chara
Jeff Finger - Dougie Hamilton
Rob Davison - Ladislav Smid
Tuukka Rask
Yann Davis
What to do(suggestion)?:
Pretty good overall offense. Upgrade the defense. Depth defense at the farm team, someone might be useful.
Use picks wisely.
Prospects:
Alexander Khoklachev (C/RW) - Should be able for promotion pretty soon, maybe already.
Toni Rajala (RW/LW) - Outside shot at making it.
Nashville Predators:
Missed the playoffs (10th in the West this last season).
1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th overall pick in the draft! Got another first round pick and a total of 10 picks in the draft (five picks in the first round).
This last season roster:
Patric Hornqvist - David Legwand - Nikolai Zherdev
Kenndall McArdle - Andy McDonald - Jordan Eberle
(Raffi Torres) - Greg Campbell - Michael Ryder
Chad LaRose - Brad Richardson - Gilbert Brule
Joni Pitkanen - Shea Weber
Ryan Suter - Steve Eminger
Brent Sopel - Brandon Gormley
Pekka Rinne
Jonathan Bernier
What to do(suggestion)?:
Minor upgrades at the bottom pair on defense.
Find centers and wingers through free agency and draft.
Re-sign Nikolai Zherdev
Let David Legwand(asks for too much) and Andy McDonald(old) walk (outgoing contracts).
Prospects:
Simon Boudreau (LD) - Sign this guy! Fast!
Patrick Russell (C/RW/LW) - Maybe give this guy a ELC, decide on your own. Outside shot.
I'm not quite sure, but I do believe it's the 3.0.4 update and Lidas 3.2 db.

Re: Lack of inspiration? Try this SAVE-GAME!
This is interesting, I was thinking about starting a game with NSH with my custom DB but this one is tempting. Especially with the HUGE opportunity to build up some good prospects. ( almost ridiculous
) Does this work with the last DB?

Re: Lack of inspiration? Try this SAVE-GAME!
How is that really a challenge? To me with all those stud players and picks on Detroit you will never stop winning. With the Preds...with those picks will be winning in 2 years without doing anything. Looks too easy to me.

Depends on what view/situation/experience you are coming from, and what you make of a game or team yourself.batdad wrote:How is that really a challenge? But too me, that comment is too simple. Then why aren't the Vancouver Canucks winning the cup this year? It should be simple.

Come on. You can do well in the regular season and bomb in the Playoffs in the game too.Richie Daggers Crime wrote:Because one is real life and the other is a game?Wroom wrote: But too me, that comment is too simple. For those who do try, let us know how it went and what team you did take and what you did.
I haven't played any further yet, so I don't have any more information

Re: Lack of inspiration? Try this SAVE-GAME!
Sorry I find the game to be fairly easy. Unless I get a bunch of injuries there is no difference in game between how to win in season and playoffs. Superstar lineups bore me. To each their own. If u like this have fun with it

Except for the Wings offense, none of these are "Superstar"-lineups.batdad wrote:Sorry I find the game to be fairly easy. Again, it's up to one self to decide what one wants to do with the teams.
And, yes. The game anyway you play it is fairly easy.

Re: Lack of inspiration? Try this SAVE-GAME!
I've discovered that an easy way to make the game harder is to find say an ECHL team, switch them in the editor with an NHL team, empty the rosters, fix the ECHL team to have appropriate NHL budget and finances and arena, and work from there. Or if that's too much, switch out with an AHL team instead.
It's one thing to empty a roster and rebuild it. It's another thing ENTIRELY to do so when the ECHL's team low rep remains intact (you can't sign much of anyone as free agents: guys will sign overseas and to the AHL before they will with your NHL team). Where in the original freeware EHM this might make you stumble for a year or so, in 2007 it can leave you struggling for years as you exist off waiver claims, the odd trade you can actually make, signing the odd older ex-NHL player who has already been playing overseas for a year or two, etc...

Re: Lack of inspiration? Try this SAVE-GAME!
So, some seasons have passed! But, 5 games into the 2018/19 season, YOU have the possibility to take over one or several of these teams and to try and go gunning for glory!
File can be downloaded here: Use 7-zip to unzip it and move it into your save-directory. The Zip file is around 53 mb, unzipped it's 240mb+

You can choose among the following teams:
BOSTON BRUINS
2-time Stanley Cup Champion (2014, 2018) - The Current Stanley Cup Champions
Played 7 finals in the last 9 years, two wins and five losses.
1 President's Trophy (2012)
Current Lines:
N.Horton - E. Malkin - P. Kessel
B.Nantes - D. Krejci - J. Basaraba
A.Norberg - B. Little - N. Kulemin
P-O. Elliot - M. Tatar - P. Gron
J. Johnson - G. Filatov
C. Berglund - M. Clark
A. Vodolazskis - K. Gunnarson
T. Rask
E. Hakala
The Boston Bruins is driven by a superb but aging first line. The second line is solid, something captain Krejci got the benefit from last season when he could lift the Stanley Cup just months ago. The goalies are Finnish and solid, and the defense got both veterans in Jack Johnson & Matt Clark, and talent and youth in Filatov and the others. The team doesn't always look like Stanley Cup-contenders, but they seem to keep getting into a position where they have a solid chance at reaching the ultimate target.
Got some youth and depth in the AHL.
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
1-time Stanley Cup Champion (2016) -
Current Lines:
N. Backstrom - M.Radulov - P. Kane
L. Musatov - M. Duchene - D. Williamson
E. Flaake - J-M Ahonen - P. Turmel
E. Staal - T. Cowan - R. Vorel
(K.Ek - T. Lehoux)
R. McDonagh - D. Hamilton
D. Keith - V. Cameron
D. Siemens - J. Subban
(D. Vlcek)
J. Mares
C. Boudreau
The Chicago Blawkhawks were aging, and somewhat still have a couple of the elder core left. But went through a total overall at center position during the summer. Going to be an interesting year for them, maybe they can get back to that winning season a couple of years ago.
Got goalie depth and some hidden gems in the AHL.
DETROIT RED WINGS
7-time Stanley Cup Champion (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2017)
9-times President's Trophy winner (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018)
Current Lines:
A. Strandberg - S. Crosby - R. Komarov
K. Gimblett - J. Abdelkader - N. d'Entremont
M. Kruczek - D. Helm - G. Mitchell
S. MacDougall - P. Troliga - R. Petr
(V-M. Järvi - T. Perreault)
Z. Bogosian - D. Doughty
C. Barker - F. Nikolaev
P. Östman - B.Uvarov
(R. Bonk)
V. Miksan
A. Bednar
The Detroit Red Wings have been through a little generation change on the offensive side. But still managed to be among the top teams last season. And with that, Z. Bogosian took home his first Norris Trophy. Solid d-core, young forwards. Have fetched longtime Nashville Predators-winger Radmir Komarov from Free Agency this summer to get back to the SC this season.
Got great depth and a lot of young solid players in the AHL.
NASHVILLE PREDATORS
1-time Stanley Cup Champion (2013) - Lost SC-final last season with 1-4 vs. Boston Bruins.
Current Lines:
O. Malmqvist - S. Stamkos - J. Eberle
J. Lundström - G. Nefedov - I. Myshagin
V. Suchanek - R. Podesva - G. Walsh
B. Rupert - S. Cannata - R. Spooner
L. Balastik - S. Weber
S. Boudreau - R. Suter
C. Gunnarsson - G. Samuelsson
A. Wiemer
D. Tessier
The Nashville Predators not only lost last seasons Stanley Cup Final. They also lost their top goal-scorer Radmir Komarov on the Free Agency-market this off-season. Have gotten some replacements, got one of the best goalie tandems in the League, and they are young too. Solid on the blueline and solid group of two-way forwards. 6 seasons since their Stanley Cup Title.
Got some depth in the AHL.
NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Took over last season, to 4th place. Made Playoffs first time in years.
Current Lines:
M. Zuccarello - R. Lees - V. Hallin
R. Wright - J. Skinner - S. Talbot
A. Power - B. Fry - J. Nygren
V. Eskelinen - T. Tremblay - V. Tarasov
(J. Huberdeau - E. Fakhrutdinov)
W. Newman - A. Larsson
M. Fisher - E. Johnson
F. Kaikkonen - S. Tuominen
(M. Cervenka)
C. Kramer
L. Olsson
The New Jersey Devils lost their number one center Maksim Radulov to the Chicago Blackhawks on free agency this summer. That meant promotion for the 19-year old Raffi Lees to center the first line. They got a good young first goalie, solid d-core and some youth on the offense. Currently a balance-act with being a bubble-team to going for contender status. Aging Captain Mats Zuccarello got a real challenge this season.
Poor depth in the AHL.
NEW YORK RANGERS
Just taken over. A revolution during the summer, from old to young. Not made the Playoffs the last two years.
Current Lines:
V. Ludvik - T. Zajac - A. Chistyakov
G. Dillon - I. Masaryk - M. Carlson
T. Halminen - B. Dubinsky - T. Jurco
H. Huhtala - T. Watson - B. Spurr
(L. Belliveau)
T. Laakonen - D. Phaneuf
J-L. Chabot - S. Gates
A. Tuominen - J. Toms
(R. Sykora - A. Stepanov)
(K. Immonen)
G. Bateman
E. Lauzon
The New York Rangers have been through a lot of trades during the summer. A much younger team is on your hands than before. Some issues is still left though. Goalies are okay, but not great. The D-position is overcrowded. Solve the issue there. Still a couple of elderly centers, and it's a position were the team can improve. Because of the amount of trades, several good young wingers play in the wrong position at this time.
Got a top goalie prospect, depth d-men and depth forwards in the AHL.
SAN JOSE SHARKS
A couple of 2nd/3rd positions the last few years.
Current Lines:
B. Lupul - J. Tavares - A. Kopitar
L. Marcoux - K. Crawford - M. Maclaurin
V. Gourdeau - P. Namestnikov - J. Rycroft
D. Stafford - V. Alexandrov - M. Hebert
(C. Fletcher - P. Jonsson)
V. Hedman - K. Letang
J. Kindl - A. McLaughlin
A. Strålman - E. Karlsson
(D. Musil)
T. Girouard
M. Kosonen
The San Jose Sharks have turned around from being a bubble team to getting into contention status. But they haven't been able to quite reach the promised land yet. A combination of tough competition and not getting their lines completely to click in the Playoffs is currently placing this team in the "maybe good enough, but didn't get there"-box. Good goalie, varied d-core and a very good top-six forward group. Though the stars are aging.
Got some youth and depth in the AHL.
ST. LOUIS BLUES
1-time Stanley Cup Champion (2012)
Current Lines:
H. Hultgren - T. Seguin - C. Stewart
D. Parenteau - P. Berglund - J. Isabel
C. Lalonde - A. Burmistrov - D. Prusek
C. Klingberg - H. Lennartsson - K. Rousseau
O. Klefbom - A. Pietroangelo
S. Evans - J. Bostic
B. Magnusson - J. Nevala
K. Sarich
M. Levesque
The St. Louis Blues is 7 years removed of their Stanley Cup Title. Got good goalies, but not great. A solid group of D-core and an all-round great group of two-way forwards. Maybe lacks a little bit of offense from the center positions, something Tyler Seguin was fetched in during the summer to cover for. Overall a solid team with potential for improvement in-front of both nets. Maybe trade some D-men or D-prospects & picks for those positions.
Got probably the best D-man depth in the League with those guys on the team and prospects in the AHL.

The Nashville Predators not only lost last seasons Stanley Cup Final. They also lost their top goal-scorer Radmir Komarov on the Free Agency-market this off-season. Have gotten some replacements, got one of the best goalie tandems in the League, and they are young too. Solid on the blueline and solid group of two-way forwards. 6 seasons since their Stanley Cup Title.
Got some depth in the AHL.
NEW JERSEY DEVILS
Took over last season, to 4th place. Made Playoffs first time in years.
Current Lines:
M. Zuccarello - R. Lees - V. Hallin
R. Wright - J. Skinner - S. Talbot
A. Power - B. Fry - J. Nygren
V. Eskelinen - T. Tremblay - V. Tarasov
(J. Huberdeau - E. Fakhrutdinov)
W. Newman - A. Larsson
M. Fisher - E. Johnson
F. Kaikkonen - S. Tuominen
(M. Cervenka)
C. Kramer
L. Olsson
The New Jersey Devils lost their number one center Maksim Radulov to the Chicago Blackhawks on free agency this summer. That meant promotion for the 19-year old Raffi Lees to center the first line. They got a good young first goalie, solid d-core and some youth on the offense. Currently a balance-act with being a bubble-team to going for contender status. Aging Captain Mats Zuccarello got a real challenge this season.
Poor depth in the AHL.
NEW YORK RANGERS
Just taken over. A revolution during the summer, from old to young. Not made the Playoffs the last two years.
Current Lines:
V. Ludvik - T. Zajac - A. Chistyakov
G. Dillon - I. Masaryk - M. Carlson
T. Halminen - B. Dubinsky - T. Jurco
H. Huhtala - T. Watson - B. Spurr
(L. Belliveau)
T. Laakonen - D. Phaneuf
J-L. Chabot - S. Gates
A. Tuominen - J. Toms
(R. Sykora - A. Stepanov)
(K. Immonen)
G. Bateman
E. Lauzon
The New York Rangers have been through a lot of trades during the summer. A much younger team is on your hands than before. Some issues is still left though. Goalies are okay, but not great. The D-position is overcrowded. Solve the issue there. Still a couple of elderly centers, and it's a position were the team can improve. Because of the amount of trades, several good young wingers play in the wrong position at this time.
Got a top goalie prospect, depth d-men and depth forwards in the AHL.
SAN JOSE SHARKS
A couple of 2nd/3rd positions the last few years.
Current Lines:
B. Lupul - J. Tavares - A. Kopitar
L. Marcoux - K. Crawford - M. Maclaurin
V. Gourdeau - P. Namestnikov - J. Rycroft
D. Stafford - V. Alexandrov - M. Hebert
(C. Fletcher - P. Jonsson)
V. Hedman - K. Letang
J. Kindl - A. McLaughlin
A. Strålman - E. Karlsson
(D. Musil)
T. Girouard
M. Kosonen
The San Jose Sharks have turned around from being a bubble team to getting into contention status. But they haven't been able to quite reach the promised land yet. A combination of tough competition and not getting their lines completely to click in the Playoffs is currently placing this team in the "maybe good enough, but didn't get there"-box. Good goalie, varied d-core and a very good top-six forward group. Though the stars are aging.
Got some youth and depth in the AHL.
ST. LOUIS BLUES
1-time Stanley Cup Champion (2012)
Current Lines:
H. Hultgren - T. Seguin - C. Stewart
D. Parenteau - P. Berglund - J. Isabel
C. Lalonde - A. Burmistrov - D. Prusek
C. Klingberg - H. Lennartsson - K. Rousseau
O. Klefbom - A. Pietroangelo
S. Evans - J. Bostic
B. Magnusson - J. Nevala
K. Sarich
M. Levesque
The St. Louis Blues is 7 years removed of their Stanley Cup Title. Got good goalies, but not great. A solid group of D-core and an all-round great group of two-way forwards. Maybe lacks a little bit of offense from the center positions, something Tyler Seguin was fetched in during the summer to cover for. Overall a solid team with potential for improvement in-front of both nets. Maybe trade some D-men or D-prospects & picks for those positions.
Got probably the best D-man depth in the League with those guys on the team and prospects in the AHL.
