So guys..this is just the thread for discussion of the challenge team and events in the game. NOT to discuss the rules. Any questions about rules in here...just delete them maybe,
Please keep the rules questions in the Challenge questions/feedback thread.
Thanks
BTW: I voted for the Coyotes. So far in polls I am like 4/4 or something
and yeah...NTNB for me. Now you guyses have a fighting chance.

I'm pumped to get this one going! I have a feeling it's going to be hellish though. Get ready to say goodbye to 90% of the staff if you want to have any chance at turning the roster into something other than a steaming pile of...well, you know.

I'm canning "The Great One" right away. He's just not cut out for being a head coach (in EHM at least). I started a game and took a look at my staff before throwing out a couple coaching offers. It looks like I'll be replacing everyone except maybe one or two scouts. I might keep the AGM if I don't find better.
Of course, I'll be playing NTNB. I played this way with the Panthers in testing and loved it. Of course, the Panthers had more going for them than the Coyotes. These guys just plain stink! Anyhow, I'm glad to see so many people interested in playing NTNB rules for this challenge. It's going to be a whole lot of fun! Just play it smart. Scout like crazy because drafting is going to be VERY important.

I just started on my staff... Gonna do lots of changes here since Im going NTNB and cant touch the roster...
Started out by canning all the staff except for Greg Malone. Had some troubles finding a new head coach, most rejected my offers or chose other teams... I ended up signing Dave King from his Russian team. He was way down my list of choices though =(

Catchup is correct. You may sign your own prospects any time you like. Keep in mind, because of the August 30th start date (which I'm sure everyone stuck to... right?), any of your prospects that you try to sign at the start of the game won't be eligible to be used as a homegrown in season 2 (the first time you'll need a homegrown). They'll be eligible to be used in season 3 as your second homegrown. There is no way these guys could be signed by September 1st.

Hem... guys?... This was a rule question...
Doesn't belong here.
I'll try to start the challenge this weekend... Probably won't go for the NTNB, but will stick to just a few reasonnable deals here and there, mostly around the deadline, and probably as a seller for the first season. Won't win anything in the challenge anyway, just want to have fun playing this way.

Good point, Shadd. Let's keep all all rule questions in the proper thread. This thread should be strictly for talking our teams and experiences in the challenge.

Yeah, my only real EHM time is at work. My girlfriend (she'll be my wife in about a month) occupies just about all of my time outside of work. She works the overnight shifts on Fridays, so I usually luck out with some computer play time on Saturdays if I don't have anything else planned. I'm looking to work on my challenge team this Saturday. I have a feeling that I'll barely make it out of the preseason today. I've got staff offers out already but now I've got to wait for responses.
I just put my roster into a spreadsheet with their contract lengths, position, age, core category. This way I can plan out my choices for my core based on how long I have them under contract (which matters in NTNB) and who I'm bringing in as my homegrowns in seasons 2 and 3. I hope I get it right!

So all I've done so far is start my GM up, and made San Antonio GM as well, I've sent out a bunch of offers for staff because both teams are seriously laking in the staffing department.
The other thing I noticed....I really won't have to sign anyone for San Antonio....holy freaking prospects. I'm actually a little worried about the reserve list (which I haven't looked at yet).
BTW I am going wtih NTNB...I think it's going to be a serious challenge, I not much of a trader GM anyways as I tend like watching my guys grow and develop.
However I do like alot of UFA action in the offseason...so that will be a challenge
I'm also more a GM-type player in EHM so coaching and setting tactics will be fun, I've done it in the past but haven't really paid too much attention to it.
Looking forward to it.

Glad to see another person on board with NTNB!
In addition to tactics, you're really going to have to pay a lot of attention to training. There are only a few guys on this roster that start out with good attributes. You're going to have to try to get the most out of the others. As for prospects, there may be a bunch but most of them are pretty bad. I've got a small handful of guys that I think might turn into something... somewhere down the line.
What I'm finding challenging so far (I'm at about the same point as you) is finding staff that are interested in coming to my team. There's some good talent out there but they don't want to come play in the desert. One guy (who was my head coach in the Panthers team I tested with) that I offered a head coaching position to took an assistant coach job with another team for a lot less money. Plus, I can never get a certain goaltending coach to sign with me, no matter what team I used. I ended signing a head coach from Finland that I'm unfamiliar with. One of my assistants is Sweden and another is from Switzerland. I've never heard of either of them either. Out of my 6 coaches (1 head coach and 5 assistants) only 2 of them are ones I've ever used before.
