#3: Stats Recording & Official Scoring

Postby archibalduk » Sun Apr 26, 2009 10:33 pm

11.0 Posting your team's Challenge stats

11.1 Stating that you have read and understand the rules
By clicking on the "Submit" button in the Upload Tool, you agree that you have read the rules and agree to play by them. This (and other terms and conditions) is clearly stated above the "Submit" button.

11.2 Quarterly stats for different leagues
All of the rules threads refer to the quarters assuming that you are playing an NHL Challenge (i.e. quarter 1 is 20 games, quarter 2 is 40 games, quarter 3 is 60 games, and quarter 4 is 82 games + playoff wins). However, if you are playing a non-NHL Challenge then you will need to re-adjust the number of games per quarter according to the list below:

The list below shows how many games played constitute each quarter:

NHL - Q1 = 20, Q2 = 40, Q3 = 60, Q4 = 82

OHL - Q1 = 17, Q2 = 34, Q3 = 51, Q4 = 68

QMJHL - Q1 = 17, Q2 = 34, Q3 = 51, Q4 = 70

WHL - Q1 = 18, Q2 = 36, Q3 = 54, Q4 = 72

For example, if you are playing in the QMJHL, you post your first quarter's stats after playing 17 games, your second quarter's after 34 games, etc.

You should include Canadian Memorial Cup wins when posting playoff wins for the OHL/QMJHL/WHL.

11.3 Quarterly Stats
You must upload your team's stats using the Upload Tool on a quarterly basis. The relevant quarters are detailed in rule 11.2 above as well as in the Announcements Box at the top of the Challenge Centre.

11.4 Improperly recorded stats may result in a points penalty or disqualification from bonus points. If you notice that you have made a mistake uploading your stats then please immediately notify a Moderator. A minor mistake will not result in a points penalty or disqualification. Whether a mistake is "minor" will be judged on a case by case basis and is at the discretion of the TBL Mods.

12.0 Posting the end of season screenshots

12.1 At the end of each season you need to post a couple of screenshots to verify your recorded statistics. We do not mind how compressed/ugly/chunky/stripy the images are (you may use the GIF format if you wish) so long as we can read your numbers and the ingame date is clearly visible.

12.2 The screenshots we require are (note: you can click on each of the items in this list to see an example screenshot with further information):

12.3 <<Rule removed>>

When playing in a CHL (WHL, OHL, and QMJHL) challenge, you should take your Regular Season Player Stats in the month of May rather than June. Due to Reserve List juggling at the time, top scorers may be released and no proof of their stats will be available in June.

12.4 At any point you may be asked to submit a screenshot to verify any stats or transactions. If asked and you do not provide the requested screenshot, bonus points may be deducted or your team may be disqualified. Please do not take offence if we ask you to submit a screenshot. We only do this to validate information (in order to ensure fairness) rather than to try and catch people off guard.

Post your screenshots here:

13.4 If two users have equal stats for one of the categories in which bonus points are awarded, they will both be awarded the points. For example, if two users are tied third for most wins after game 82, both users will be awarded 6pts each.

13.5 If, once all bonus points have been awarded, there are a number of users tied at an overall position, the following stats will be used as a tie-breaker in order of:

1) Most playoff wins
2) Most games won
3) Least losses
4) Most goals scored

All TBL Admin and Mod decisions are final.

13.6 Player awards in the form of trophies will be added to each of the top three performing users. These will be visible in the users' trophy history sections of their profiles. The winner will also be added to the TBL Hall of Fame.

14.0 Gameplay: Season 2 and Beyond

14.1 You may play as many or as few seasons as you wish. You may continue to submit stats in the Challenge Stats Recording Thread until the Challenge deadline. The deadline passes on the stroke of midnight (Greenwich Mean Time) at the end of the deadline day. For example, if the deadline is 1 August 2008, you may continue to submit stats until 11:59pm on 1 August 2008. You can compare your current time zone with GMT here: http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/

14.2 The TBL Mods may at their discretion extend the deadline by a small number of hours so as to reduce the disadvantage to those living to the west of the Greenwich Mean Time time zone. The exact closing date and time is detailed in the Challenge Centre.

14.3 In order for bonus points to be awarded for subsequent seasons (i.e. season 2 onwards), a minimum of four users must complete the season in its entirety.

Please note that we have updated Rules 11.0-11.4 and Rules 16.0-16.3 in light of the introduction of the Challenge Stats Upload Tool. There are no major changes to the rules - it's just to reflect that we now use the Upload Tool to record stats rather than the Spreadsheet and Recording Thread.

There is, however, one minor change in that we will be extending Challenge deadlines by roughly 3 hours. This is so that those living to the west of Greenwich Mean Time have a little longer to post their stats. Previously, deadlines would finish at 11.59pm GMT of that day - but now they will finish roughly 3 hours later. This is because the 11.59pm deadline would mean that a user on the west coast of North America would have until roughly 4.59pm to post their stats. By extending the deadline by 3 hours, users in the west coast will have until roughly 7.59pm-8.59pm (depending on whether it is daylight savings time and if I have done my maths correctly!) to post their stats.

This does sound a little complicated but to make things much easier, you can find the exact deadline in the Announcements Box of the Challenge Centre (along with a countdown timer). As a general rule of thumb, a 1 Nov deadline means that you should get your stats uploaded by the end of that day.

Please note that we have removed the award of Improvement Points from Challenge #23 onwards. Therefore the old sections 14 and 15 of the rules has been removed and no longer apply:

14.0 Official scoring: Season 2 and beyond

14.1 All of the scoring rules laid out in section 13 apply. Additionally, there are a number of bonus points available at the end of each season if a user shows improvement in their stats compared to their previous season's stats. Bonus points are awarded to the top three users that show the most improvement in each of the following categories (1st = 3pts, 2nd = 2pts, 3rd = 1pt):

  • Most wins
  • Least losses
  • Hight total points
  • Most goals scored
  • Least goals against
  • Highest power play percentage
  • Highest penalty kill percentage
  • Highest team PIM

15.0 Official scoring: The final season

All of the scoring rules laid out in section 13 apply. As opposed to the improvement points awarded in section 14, a different set of improvement points are available for the final eligible season (i.e. the final season where four or more users complete the entire season) of the Challenge. These improvement points compare the users' performance in the final season with their performance in the first season.

Bonus points are awarded to the top three users that show the most improvement in each of the following categories (1st = 10pts, 2nd = 8pts, 3rd = 6pts, 4th = 4pts, 5th = 2pts):

  • Most wins
  • Least losses
  • Hight total points
  • Most goals scored
  • Least goals against
  • Highest power play percentage
  • Highest penalty kill percentage
  • Highest team PIM
