Well, compressed saves is the default setting, so theoretically, the vast majority of people use compressed saves. It only stands to reason that most people who have corrupt saves are using compressed saves.

And it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore once you switch to uncompressed.

Doesn't it? This is what I'm asking... because I had a uncompressed save file corrupt. I'm just wondering if people are just saying "hey, try this" or if there's actual evidence that saving uncompressed reduces the chance of corruption.

I've heard that uncompressed saves use to be safer than compressed saves as well, so I would recommend to turn of the save compressed option when you start the game.

Maybe that's the case but from my personal experience, I had several saves get corrupted but once I started saving uncompressed I didn't get any more corrupted saves.

Wonder who's holding the record of most back-up db's. I currently have 37 backups, from May 1st until this morning.
Up to May 1st I made 1 backup/week approx.

Entering this forum has given me paranoia when editing;)

Hmm..I skipped this thread completely. Anyway...I have never done anything to my saving process. I have also, since installing the 4th update way back when...have never had any corrupt saves. Touch wood.

First and foremost, I purchased this game legally, and got the 'elicense.exe has experienced a problem' error message. I thought that this was an issue with e-license itself, as the error message noted a problem with my 'Digital ID.' I sent E-License an e-mail and they responded promptly. However, it became clear to me over a short period of time that there now issue with the license at all, but rather, with the database I was using and how I was using it.

Here's how I got around the corrupt save problem: I simply retired and went unemployed about two weeks before the crash date. The Assistant GM of the team I was previously managing simply soothed over whatever database issue there was. So far I have been able to continue my game virtually unaltered. I hoped this helps.

Curious. I have a month-long the Holyday-Mode enabled, now it is again with the German language.

First post since a while on this topic. Looks like everybody solved their problem...or deleted their save ! lol

The game stop to work on June 30th 2007 (when make the update before July 1st).

- I'm using the latest Lidas version (3.1)
- I edited the Thrashers so that they are the Jets (with the message "cannot find the ATLANTA_THRASHERS index" when I created the save...but worked then)
- I added to the database the new logos, scoreboard and little stuff like that
- I'm playing with the Jets without any problem till this date

I unchecked the compressed save in Preference and restarted a game with that same database. Simulated (in vacation) till June 14th...

Then I tried different options:

- Going normally through that date
- Leave the team as GM and go through that date
- Going through when in vacation

Still crashing when going through June 30th.

I will try with the default database (not the Lidas one)...but does anyone have a clue at this point ?

How did you go about changing the Thrashers to Jets?

I'm wondering whether the Thrashers is one of those core teams that cannot be altered???

I tried to start a new game with the default database but there's a fatal error named "v3.0.4 select_league_screen.cpp 85".

For the Jets, I changed the logos in the database and just changed the part "clubs" in the pre-game editor (name, arena and various stuff to be the most realistic...did not change anything else in another category).

Alrite...I tried another new game with the Thrashers with the 2.0Lidas database and it goes through that date !

Looks like your disquiet about touching at the Thrashers are founded...is there a problem when you'll touch at them to update the game for the next Lidas update ?!?

Hope not...i'll try to get back with the Thrashers in the Lidas 3.1 database with the pre-game editor to see if there's sth wrong with the change...

I will start a new season. I'll try to create the Jets as a new team and make the Thrashers an amateur club. That's how Ronc did to create his Jets 0.9 database...

Just leave Thrashers out of any league and create or use the existing Jets for Thrashers spot....

I did the same, on 3.1, also doing some realignment. I was lazy and didn't feel like changing all the contracts so I just renamed the Thrashers to the Jets. The key is that I also went and renamed the Jets in the db (a homeless team) to the thrashers. In the 15-16 season now and have had zero problems with crashes.

Yep...doesnt really matter now as a new update came out last week...

But the thing is you must always have a name called Atlanta Thrashers (or whoever relocated or extinct) in the database...

Looking forward to the new Jets logo and Lidas4.0 !

One weird thing though is that in the last database that include the Jets, they're called Winnipeg when you create a new game instead of Jets(tm)
like the others teams even though they're correctly updated in the pre-game editor...(still miss the info part with attendance, market size and allthtat stuff...).

Will be fixed in 4.0 I guess.

Still having the same problem in the newest update. The date mine freezes at is August 6th, 2007. It'll show it going into the morning of August 7th right before it crashes. I tried simming via vacation and it did the same thing. I unchecked the compressed saving a little while ago and it still does the same thing (although I guess that would only apply to new games).

Oh well, guess I'll have to re-start using un-compressed saves and hope to god it works Sucks, especially when you've put so much time into one game already.

An update on my situation:

I un-checked the compressed files option and used Windows to find a restore point for the saved game file. Luckily, it had one from yesterday afternoon that would only set me back about a week in the game. I restored that point, went into the game, and it worked. Thanks for the suggestions, I would've never thought that compressed saves would've been the problem!

EDIT: Now it's crashing on August 8th. I don't know what the deal is, but I guess I'm just going to have to re-start.

Same here. First started crashing around August 2...unchecked save compressed, got to the 4th or so...made various other adjustments, vacations, re-signing, etc. Still can't get past the 8th with the newest update (from July 4th I believe).

So I started a new game (with un-compressed saves from the get-go) and got going pretty well. Had the best start I've ever had in this game, placing 2nd in the NHL and winning the Cup in my first season. So you can imagine my dismay when my game crashed in the middle of the first offseason I've just given up on EHM for now, I'm too afraid to get so excited and work so hard on a game and then have it crash right in the middle. Oh well, I might just re-download the current Lidas' or just wait until 4.0.

We need more information than that!

What version of EHM are you using (e.g. version 3.0.4)?

What type of crash are you getting? Is it a straight crash or do you get any .cpp errors? Have you had any .cpp errors in the past?

Have you made any modifications to the database?

What leagues do you have loaded (i.e. either standard or enhanced)?

Weird, I had started a new season.. then loaded up the one that was crashing to someone my roster, and it's working now
