I know nothing about all the programming stuff perhaps something to try to teach myself one day but all I can offer currently is encouragement. The shots you have put look fantastic for a one man job.
version 1: stable maybe similar to the free-ware version but more in depth
Version 2: Getting closer to the EHM 04
Version 3: Basically like EHM 04 but with lots of customisation so the community can take on workload in some areas
version 4: Perhaps then look at things like a 2d engine etc
Even before version 1 I would imagine there would be lots of closed and then open betas so to gain feedback. If you progressed well on version 2 or 3 perhaps that could alert interest from a company or developer.
Perhaps every few months you could have a state of the game report that gives a good insight as to where you are. Every now again tease us with some nice info or screenshot. Try and be strategic and hold things back for a while. No info for a long time can mean people stop checking or check less frequently. So drips and drabs keeps people hooked rather than one large cake.
Customisation is the key though. Ideally if you can make this a common theme throughout it may age better than EHM over time. Out of the ball baseball seemed to be like that though I haven't really played it myself as I'm not a big baseball person. Football Manager now lets people create competitions and year on year has grown customisation in other areas.
Best of luck like I said I know little about programming or the in depth details on stats in eastside I'm just a casual lover of the game. I'm realistic so never expected too much but have been very impressed with what you have said and shown, which gives me encouragement.

I have an idea about the match day thing, though I don't know is this possible to create, but this would really make the match day feel more exciting. The thing is, that you could follow the league games by getting "live reports" every 15 minutes or so. I mean something like this:
Press "continue"2011/03/14-----7:00 pm
NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE tonight:
@7:00 pm Ducks vs Kings
*The game is about to begin
@8:00 pm Rangers vs Islanders
*The game will begin in 60 minutes time
2011/03/14-----7:15 pm
NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE tonight:
@7:00 pm Ducks vs Kings
8:57 of the 1st period played, Ducks 2 - 0 Kings
*2:03 LAK PENALTY!!! Wayne Simmonds, 2 minutes, hooking
*2:31 LAK PENALTY!!! Anze Kopitar, 2 minutes, tripping
*2:58 ANA GOAL!!! Teemu Selanne (27) assisted by Saku Koivu (22) and Scott Niedermayer (30) 5 on 3 PP, Slapshot
*6:41 LAK PENALTY!!! Raitis Ivanans, 2 minutes, roughing
*6:41 ANA PENALTY!!! George Parros, 2 minutes, roughing
*7:23 ANA INJURY!!! Jason Blake, upper body injury
*8:57 ANA GOAL!!! Teemu Selanne (28) assisted by Joffrey Lupul (21) and Lubomir Visnovsky (14) Even strength, One-timer
@8:00 pm Rangers vs Islanders
*The game will begin in 45 minutes time

It may take some extra effort, but I don't think that would be all that bad to do, Animal.
I did an extremely primitive engine in my own personal project, and it was basically a matter of having it print out certain things as it went through it's calculations. I would imagine a timer could be worked into the mix to have it run "live".

Well, who plays as coach loves the 2D, trust me. Just because you prefer playing at GM doesn't matter that other can like playing with the tactics and actually watch the game...philou21 wrote:Really don't care if their's no 2D, I NEVER watch a game with it, anyway what's the point when you play with fast foward?The only time I've watch 2D is when I've got some interesting shootout.
Don't waste your time for now on that.

Looks like everyone agrees on the fact that the 2d match engine should be added at a later stage.
Will keep that in mind for the future.Animal wrote:I have an idea about the match day thing, though I don't know is this possible to create, but this would really make the match day feel more exciting. I will post screenshots/info as soon as I have something to show. In the beginning I expect to work quite some time on stuff that you cannot post screenshots of so I expect there will be mostly text updates.grazza wrote:Perhaps every few months you could have a state of the game report that gives a good insight as to where you are. Yeah will try to make it as customizable as possible, as long as you have an SQLite editor you should have plenty to customize. Don't look for the GUI to be customizable though; the future GUI I have in my head will probably give you greater possibilities.grazza wrote:Customisation is the key though.

I just found about this project when I was over at the SIgames NHL EHM forum.
Wow! Does this game in development by dabo ever look promising!
I started reading from the first post and it was like reading a thrilling novel, I couldn't read fast enough to find out what happens next!
I'll keep checking back to read the next exciting chapter.......this game development news is awesome!

No i was talking about the actual engine that derives results based upon conditions. I could never come up with anything that was likely to produce decent results on a consistent basis without reverting to either random numbers or a very basic engine that didn't actually simulate a game but just came up with a resultdabo wrote:If you are referring to the 2d rink there won't be one, at least not in the beginning. That feature alone would simply be too time-consuming but once I have everything else working perhaps I could give it another thought. Right now I am thinking of doing a quick-sim and something text-based.mne2 wrote:Out of interest what exactly are you doing about the match engine? that was always the thing that stopped me from writing a game.

I love watching and coaching, but I feel playing takes ages, and I am somewhat sorry about that.Alessandro wrote:Well, who plays as coach loves the 2D, trust me. I don't have an answer right now, ask me again by the end of the summer and I will hopefully be able to give you one.mne2 wrote:No i was talking about the actual engine that derives results based upon conditions. I recently started a FBgroup because we need a new hockeymanager game, but now I see this thread.. So f*cking good work my native fellow!
But if you guys want to, then join the group called "We who want a new hockeymanager game!" or press this link and join it:

what program did you use to make the database?dabo wrote:Alright, I am done with Red Dead Redemption. Since the database will be delayed I will start planning and eventually writing the core. I expect this to take quite some time; since there is so much to do I am not 100% sure where to start.
i downloaded the trial version of visualstudio 2008 and Xna game studio.. but you use some other programs right?

I started building it in SQLite Administrator but since awhile back I have another person, who actually knows what he is doing, creating the rest. I don't know what he is using but it should still be possible to use for example SQLite Administrator when it is done.hellgren84 wrote:what program did you use to make the database?dabo wrote:Alright, I am done with Red Dead Redemption. When will you post another pic of how far you`ve come?I started building it in SQLite Administrator but since awhile back I have another person, who actually knows what he is doing, creating the rest. You'll probably want to learn a programming language before you get too far with Visual Studio. Visual Studio is only an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that simply aides in writing code.hellgren84 wrote:Okey, time for me to purchase Visual studios for dummies thenSQLite is only the database, the interface you see there is written in C# using Visual Studio.
In which case, see Here for programming discussion.
