After another absence from playing I'm back on EHM, typically happens in the summer for whatever reason. This time inspired by THN's recent issue looking at the chances of breakthrough players into next season's rosters.
Playing as Buffalo on Lidas 2.3, my Sabres games always have a long life, whereas one I did with the Isles a few months back fizzled out. I just know my team best I guess Currently awaiting the start of the ECF where I'll meet the NY Rangers. I've swept the Bruins and knocked Pittsburgh off 4-2 with Patrick Kaleta scoring the game six OT winner.
No major roster changes to speak of, traded Matt Ellis away to get Oskar Osala, I value his size, versatility and youth. Typically go
I've had Whitmore, Butler, Gerbe, Ennis, Kennedy, Mancari, Enroth, and Weber up from Portland at one time or another, Whitmore surprisingly good, 1+2 in 4 appearances on the top line.
Won the Cup, I just seem to get it done in Buffalo. Took six against Vancouver with a Raffi Torres overtime goal.
Interesting offseason followed though:
Out: Tallinder, Lydman, Lalime, Cowan, Kostka, Generous
In: B.Gordon, Leighton, Pushkarev (AHL fodder), Buravchikov, McKee, Kopecky, plus Enroth, Gragnani, Weber, and Kassian stepping up to the big club.
Kassian's sticking around because Gaustad is injured for 3 months and Kassian either has to go back to Jr or stay. Gaustad's return will see Kass turn 20 and be able to go to the AHL.
Playing with Nashville, Lidas 2.3, currently in my 2nd season and I'm in 29th position
At least I got some good prospects (Bjugstad, Etem, Taylor Hall, Mark Pysyk and Blum will probably make the team next year) so hopefully next season we can make a push for the playoffs.
Sullivan - Legwand - Erat
Goc - Arnott - Dumont
Wilson - Boyd - Scatchard
O'Reilly - Santorelli - Ward
Suter - Weber
Grebeshkov - Bouillon
Hamhuis - Klein
I´m playing with Detroit Red Wings, and im about to start season 2010-2011!

Nick Bjugstad - Joakim Andersson - Jordan Messier
Niklas Kronwall - Jack Johnson
Ladislav Smid - Brendan Smith
Jakub Kindl - Simon Després
Jimmy Howard - Zdenek Bauer
As you see at my lineups, i have made a big change to very young players. Hope it will work out!
Anyway, season 2 in Buffalo ended with the Rangers eliminating me in round 2, and Drew Stafford bailing for Long Island, amongst other departures. More fool him. I did let Tim Connolly go though, because he wasn't justifying his desired salary increase
Have attempted to keep a healthy balance between my own developed players and acquired ones, resulting in the current line-up sitting 2nd in the East at Christmas.
A whole lots of things have changed during last season, I even failed to get to the playoffs
I however did a lot of rebuilding and had a rather successfull draft, so here's my current situation:
Forwards:
Kovalchuk - Cammalleri - Zherdev
Grabovsky - Antropov - Afinogenov
Slater - Little - Williams
Kelly - Stewart - Arthyukin
A few details..
First off, I'm playing with the newest Lidas DB, so Kovy was playing in the Devils, but God knows why he was put on the block during the offseason, so I traded him for a few innecessary players such as Boulton who did nothing in the roster..
His stats are 15 points in the first 10 games, in the 10 exhibition games he got 20 points
Grabovsky came in in the last trade date last season, he's 14 points for 10 games thus far.
Zherdev came in from the RSL last summer, he has got a point for all of his games in the team including exhibitions and he has been truly awesome. Best buy ever. Scott Niedermayer is 21 points for 20 games (including exhibition) which is awesome for defense, got him as a free agent last summer.
I got Evander Kane, Taylor Hall and Maksim Kitsyn waiting to get 20 in the juniors, last two being my first two picks in the draft. Can't wait for them to get NHL Ready, they are gonna be dope!
Just ended my 6th season of my GM career.. I'm still not in NHL thought.
Latest two seasons I was in Linköping. They were in Allsvenskan when I joined after three seasons in Ässät. In first season we got promoted to Elitserien and in Elitserien season we managed to reach semi finals. I had pretty brutal offensive team this time, but that wasn't enough to beat defensive Frölunda and Hiller.
Using the Lidas 2.3 database, I have set all upcoming free-agents loose and will now start a game with the Rangers too see if I can get a good playmaker for Gaborik and some secondary scoring as well.
I have also changed the minor systems with the changes for the 10-11 season. I have not aged the players and have not done any attribute or ability changes
alexob18 wrote:Hold on to Olli. He was a 130 pt player for me with Gabby. Weird but true. Lucic was a 120 pt player.
I did not sign Olli.
This game is getting ridiculous. The only FA that did not want to sign with me was Jody Shelley. I have signed Marleau, Hedberg, Mair, Volchenkov, Asham, Boogaard and Boychuk.
I have also made some wacky trades.
Drury and Redden to Dallas for Brad Richards
Rozsival and Boyle to San Jose for Doug Murray and Ryane Clowe
and I ditched some dead weight for picks, all in two weeks in game. LOL
Safe to say, I tried this just to do some trading and signing. Now that's done I'm going back to the Sting-challenge
In my fourth season with Nashville now. After finishing the last two seasons 29th and 30th I stocked some really nice prospects but try to build them slowly.
Ryan Smyth - Jason Arnott - Martin Erat
Taylor Hall - David Legwand - J.P. Dumont
Jeff Tambellini - Dave Scatchard - Jed Ortmeyer
Konstantin Glazachev - Marcel Goc - Joel Ward
Ryan Suter - Shea Weber
Dan Hamhuis - Denis Grebeshkov
Francis Bouillon - Kevin Klein
Just out of intrest, morsy, how is Taylor Hall in your game? I drafted him and he is in the juniors waiting to get 20 or 21 or NHL-ready in general.
Oh, and, Antropov just got a UCL Tear and his out for 4 months. That's gonna be a major loss, I do have some fellas to replace him though but it's nowhere Nik's skills.

Homage status around here won't happen til we get a bdiddy, or bdaddy, or batdiddy or something like that. In fact, original B. Stinson--I suggest you change this new guys user name to b_diddy.
I am in my second season with Wild right now. After finishing a rather 'succesful' season with a 38-35-9 record when it was all about getting know the team, the players, the prospects, trying to figure out what to do with this team, I did a pair of off-season moves to kick off the rebuilding process.
First thing I had to deal with was abysmal depth at LW. My highest rated LW Brunette was playing 3rd/4th line plus occasional PP & PK duties. My other LW Hilbert was bench-warming most of the season. Thus I searched for legitimate LWs, and after using filter of required set of skills it was down to these guys: Patrick Sharp (ATL) and Erik Cole (CAR).
C Bouchard was supposed to be my trade bait here. Too soft, and with Sheppard and Koivu being a punching duo of centres, I knew I had to get rid of him. First possible deal was straight up Bouchard for Sharp. But wanting to be a smart GM, and try to solve more problems with one trade rather than doing multiple trades, I tossed in LW Jokinen (in the trade discussion with Carolina), which seemed to do the trick for both sides since straight up Bouchard ($4M) for Cole ($2M) was causing them financial troubles. With Jokinen's $1.7M it seemed to be almost balanced. I had to add Ebbett, who played in minors all season long, so not a big loss, although he was useful and productive down in Houston. And so there goes my first major trade:
IN: LW Cole, LW Jokinen
OUT: C Bouchard, C Ebbett
Shortage of LWs solved for now. BTW, during the trade deadline in season 1, I got rid of RW Sykora, who was too slow and soft. Bruins offered me their youngster D Hunwick and I didn't hesitate a moment. Hunwick will look good in my set of young D core along with Barker, Burns, Schultz and Zanon. I was also looking to move some other assets at the deadline including D Zidlicky, for whom I recieved several offers, but none was good enough.
Draft brought a couple of promising players including:
#12 RW Nino Niederreiter - projected 1st line, a better version of Satan, hopefully with a better two-way game
#42 LD Collin Bowman - projected no. 3-4 defenseman, at age 19 already a great leader
#96 LW Petr Straka - projected 2nd/3rd line, a more talented version of Brunette, in pre-season camp with Wild he had 3 goals and 4 points in 3 games
#132 LW Connor Redmond - projected a 3rd line defensive forward, good set of defensive skills already
These are not my only picks, but the ones I am most excited about.
Entering the free agency, I had my mind set up for a top four defensman. Preferably a big one, hard hitting one, with a soild two-way game. It was down to Boynton and Morris, but with Boynton going to Lightning, I signed Morris for $6.9M over 3 years. I also signed some young prospects without any NHL rights, most notably C Hornqvist, who I expect to step up as a 3rd line center next year, when Brodziak's contract runs out. This gives him time for further developing in minors, along with Clutterbuck. Cal looks good already, but promoting him to Wild would make me force to trade either Kobasew or Miettinen, who are both free agents after this season, so I'll see how the situation develops.
Picked up LW Moen on waivers pre-season. Good acqusition, he's still young, big, plays tough and has a good set of defensive skills, which is never a bad thing.
My opening night line-up for season 2 is expected to be:
Oh, and BTW both Latendersse and Sheppard were great in their rookie NHL season. Latendresse had 26 goals and 61 points in 82 games and Sheppard had 17 goals and 57 points in 77 games playing top two lines all season long. Both are now my top six forwards, with a bright future ahead.
I'm using a custom database and playing as the Avalanche, with their affiliates in Utah, Tulsa and Fort Wayne. The first three teams are in the top 3 in their respective divisions, but I'm struggling mightily with Fort Wayne, a team that I'm usually blowing away the rest of the league with.
With Colorado, I picked up Niittymaki (sent Theodore to Phily), Toskala (sent Budaj to San Jose) and Madden as a waiver pick up, and all have been huge pickups. I also picked up Craig Anderson and Trevor Kidd and sent them to Utah.
Utah has been bolstered by the aformentioned goaltending, but we're suffering from a lack of offense on occaisions.
Tulsa has Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers and he's ripping up the league. We're the best defensive team in the CHL, by far.
Fort Wayne just can't keep guys healthy. We've probably lost 200 man games to injury and we're in the middle of February, with 3 guys still on the IR. We'll probably lost another 100-150 more.
I'm also playing another game, with the same database, with 1 team from every European league, but I'm not having anywhere near the success that I'm having with the North American teams.
Finished the 07-08 season with the Thrashers now, it went well, last season I finished 13th I guess, failed to get to the playoffs but this year went very well, I finished 1st of the Eastern Conference and the whole league, won the President's Trophy and won the Devils 4-2 in the Conference Quarter Finals, but lost the Conference Semi Finals to the Lightning - also 4-2, for my disadvantage.
I had two players on the top 5 league skaters, Kovalchuk 1st with 138 points ( ) and Cammalleri 3rd with 115 points.
Draft tomorrow (IRL days), I'll be posting again.
I play in the German DEL with Kölner Haie (Cologne Sharks). I won the Championship 08/09 and 09/10. After the succes I hope my Starplayers extend a contract, but they would not.
