I'm going through the Dec/Jan blues at the moment. Up until mid Dec I'd only lost four in regular time, now I've lost the past three games in a row. I happens to coincide with Bergeron's two week injury. Hopefully I can turn things around when he gets back.

Also, I'm on the verge of signing Shaun Avery. He has such a small contract (£5k per week) and will fill in my gap on the left wing on the 3rd/4th line. 8-)

This just happened in my game (look at the first assist for the final three Sharks goals). It's just so wrong. I'm complaining to SI Games

I've been battling hard to keep my fourth place in the Eastern Conf but a few disappointing losses has seen me slip to 5th. I'm currently in the middle of February 2006. I signed Shaun Avery - once he settled he's started putting in some solid performances. He even got his first goal when we played the Kings. It's funny when it doesn't happen to me :D

Have you guys checked out Mark Stuart? He's pretty darn decent on mine. 8-)

Iam just printing the stats for my fourth season, like that I can continue the story....

Btw, Mark Stuart is also doing a great job in my game, and also Andrew Alberts....both pretty solid D-mens on my lineup.

OK, here we go with the next part of the story:

We just drafted and we were getting ready for the free agency and planning next season.

With Joe Thornton going to Calgary (he signed a 2 year 6,25 Million $/year contract....thing who made me a bit mad, because I offered him 3 years for 6,75 Mill.$ /year....grrrr!!!....anyway, It was time to move on without JumboJoe!!!

My goals were to establish ourselves at the top of the Eastern Conference, so I wanted to reinforce my defence and I had to sign a good Center and some more core players on the wing.

I waived Jere Lehtinen because he wasnt playing the way I wanted to and he was claimed by the NY Islanders.
Then I had to sign the prospects from the 06 draft who were worth it. I signed LW Vladislav Kostyukhin, LW Matt Beleskey, RW/C Anton Skorykh, C John Hughes, D Tysen Dowzak and D Paul Kurceba. I also signed LW Petr Kalus (who was drafted before I arrived) and LW Kael Mouillierat, a very promising player who was drafted in the second round by the Flyers in the 06 draft, but they didnt wanted to sign him and dropped him to free agency....and right into my arms, LOL!!!

Then I looked for some good and established players in the free agency and signed the following:

C: Chris Drury (he was the natural replacement for Joe.....)
LW: Ryan Malone
C/RW: Mike Fisher (ex-Senators)
C: Shawn Horcoff
RW: Brian Gionta

Then I realised that I had "overbooking" at LW and I still was looking for some depth at D and the goal, so I made a trade with the Sabres:

Boston gave up: LW: Marco Sturm
Buffalo gave up: RW Chris Thorburn, G: Jim Watt and D: AJ Thelen

I was very excited with my new team. I thought I had found a good mix between young and veteran players and the lines at the beginning of the season were looking like this:

CHISTOV - DRURY - BERGERON
MALONE - LEGWAND - BOCHENSKI
KOSTYUKHIN - SCHREMP - FISHER
VERMETTE - BOYES - GIONTA

KUBA - BOYNTON
ALBERTS - YORK
STUART - SUCHY

RAYCROFT - TOIVONEN

Preseason was next and I played mostly with my prospects. We won all games and the prospects were really looking excellent. Special mention for Kostyukhin who scored 7 goals and had 9 assists in 8 games.

Anyway, I sent C John Hughes and RW Anton Skorykh to Victoria in the ECHL and C Wacey Rabbit and LW Petr Kalus to Columbia, also in the ECHL. The rest remained with the Providence Bruins in the AHL. LW Kostyukhin remained with the Bruins in the NHL.

The regular season began and the first losses came quick!!! For the first time in my career we started the season with more losses than wins and after 20 games I started to get nervous!!!
As I mentioned in another post, Chris Drury was absolutely awful...with only 4 assists in the firsts 18 games, so I tried to trade him away, but nobody wanted him!!! Not even for a seventh round draft pick!!!
RW Brian Gionta was also playing not good at all and he became the first trade:

Boston shipped out RW: Brian Gionta
Chicago gave up the fourth round draft pick in the next draft

Chris Drury finally was placed in waivers....and San Jose, who also were struggling, claimed him.

....and talking about waivers: by this point Calgary put D: Dion Phaneuf and the NYRangers put RW: Hugh Jessiman (Jessiman won the offensive player of the month award just two days earlier!!!!) on waivers!!!! I claimed for both, but finally Phaneuf went to San Jose and Jessiman to the Maple Leafs.

Anyway....I was happy that I spared some caproom for my mayor plan: C: Jason Spezza!!!

He was still available in the free agency one month after the beginning of the season....so I made him an offer and he signed with me....2 years for 3,2 Millions/year with a Team Option Clause.
Finally I had a real replacement for Joe Thornton.

The end of the year was coming and we were probably the most unlucky team in the NHL....we still were above 50% in wins, but we were first in the league in overtime losses and we also were on top in games losing by one goal!!! Despite all of that we still were aiming for a playoff spot....but I felt we had to do something!!

Spezza was playing well, averaging one point per game, but the biggest surprise was LW Vladislav Kostyukhin, who was the leading scorer of my team, and by far the best rookie of the NHL!!! He played now in the second line, placing the dissapointed game of Ryan Malone to the third...or even fourth line.

With Gionta gone and RW Colby Armstrong not playing the way he did the season before I needes more depth in the Right Wing so following trade was ahead:

Boston sent: C: Vladimir Sobotka (a formerly signed prospect) to
Toronto for RW: Roman Kukumberg

Ryan Malone continued his poor performance, but he got a big trade value, so I decided to trade him.

Boston sent away: LW: Ryan Malone to
Anaheim LW: Travis Moen (a young prospect) and their second round draft pick.

We still struggled more or less and I still was looking for more depth in defense. Since he got claimed by the Sharks, I tried to trade for D: Dion Phaneuf, but the Sharks were asking too much for him....but then, at the beginning of the year the Tampa Bay Lightning made me an inquiry for D: Radoslav Suchy.

Boston: Radoslav Suchy to
Tampa Bay in return: their first round draft pick.

Now I could made an offer to the Sharks that they couldnt reject:

Boston would ship out: D: Filip Kuba and a first round draft pick (TB), for
San Jose D: Dion Phaneuf

So I finally got Phaneuf in my team!!!

With the trades I also saved a lot of caproom....so I could do my next move: sign the other starplayer still available in free agency.....Dany Heatley!!!!

He agreed to sign with me for 6,4 millions for the next two years and a Team Option clause.
...and also my defense was set up with Phaneuf and AJ Thelen and Tysen Dowzak did an excellent job when I decided to play them with the Bruins: Thelen was a part of the core since the beginning. Dowzak played since the Suchy trade.

My team was set up for the playoff push:

CHISTOV - SPEZZA - BERGERON
KOSTYUKHIN - LEGWAND - BOCHENSKI
HEATLEY - SCHREMP - KUKUMBERG
VERMETTE - FISHER - ARMSTRONG

also receiving playing time: C: Brad Boyes, C/LW: Shawn Horcoff and RW: Jason Pominville (I obtained him from the Sabres, sending RW Chris Thornburn in return)

PHANEUF - BOYNTON
THELEN - DOWZAK
STUART - YORK

also playing: D: Andrew Alberts

RAYCROFT - TOIVONEN

With this team I was hoping to climb for a playoff spot. Lucky everything was very close togheter and all the teams were close in points.

...................

If I have reached it....in the next episode :-D

Whoa! You've made some superb acquisitions this season. Surely you'll be able to wine the Cup with a team like that.

Keep me updated about Rabbit - I'm very interested in him. In my game he's currently lighting up the minor leagues.

I hope you don't mind me posting about my Bruins in your thread. It's just cool to discuss our teams and give advice, etc. I finished fourth in the Eastern Conference :joy: I have the Devils in the first round of the Playoffs. During the regular season, the Devils beat me three times and I beat them once in OT. So far I've played two games: I won the first and lost the second in OT. My major achilles heel is my lack of depth. I really need to get a decent backup centre and winger.

Look how my first line (Samsonov - Bergeron - Murray / Leetch - B. Stuart) did in the final game of the regular season:

Now that's line chemistry. 8-)

Well, I was a bit lazy lately and Iam sorry for the delay, but here is the finish of that 2008-2009 season:

It was the final month of the season and we had a nice push going on, winning 7 of the last 10 games played and hanging about 7th to 9th in the Eastern.

But then, in the last 15 games or so, began a bitter streak!!! We start to loose a looooot of games by one goal, in overtime or in shotout, so we lost a lot of vital points in the last segment of the season!!!
Still, we had a chance to qualify for the playoffs because everything was very close togheter!!

With about 5 games to play came a decisiv home and home series against the NY Rangers, who were placed just behind me on 9th place....we lost both games by 1 goal....so they took all the four points and we slipped to 10th in the East....and we never could come back. We finished 11th in the Eastern Conference with 92 points, just 3 points out of the playoffs. Atlanta took that last spot with 95 points.

We also had some unlucky bonces as Chistov, Heatley and Legwand all had late season injuries who led to multiple linechanges....but that was no excuse, we had a good lineup and always scored on games, but then failed to secure the points, probably I should have played more conservative.

At the end the playoffs started without us.....snif, snif....

The playoffs turned out to be very close and there were a lot of good games....at the end, the 7th ranked Calgary Flames took on the 8th ranked Atlanta Trashers in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Trashers came into the playoffs having won 9 of their last 10 games, so it was no surprise that they went on so long into the playoffs.
The Trashers went on to win the first two games and then they went on to take a 3-1 advantage, but the Flames fighted back to win 3 straight games and took the Stanley Cup Finals by 4-3.
So Joe Thornton went on to back to back Stanley Cups.
Jarome Iginla took the honors of the playoff MVP with 33 points (22 goals and 11 assists) in 23 games.

One of the few good things for my Bruins in this season was rookie LW Vladislav Kostyukhin, who took the Calder Trophy with 32 goals, 46 assists and 78 points. Also rookie D AJ Thelen had 4 goals, 31 assists and 35 points in 64 games and should have been included in the Rookies All-Stars, but came short....

Here the Boston scorers for the 08-09 season:

C: Jason Spezza: 32 G 54 A 86 Points in 67 games
RW: Patrice Bergeron: 44 G 29 A 73 Points in 82 games
LW: Stanislav Chistov: 34 G 45 A 79 Points in 73 games
C: David Legwand: 21 G 46 A 67 Points in 75 games
RW: Brandon Bochenski: 27 G 26 A 53 Points in 79 games

LW: Dany Heatley: 16 G 19 A 35 Points in 46 games
D: Dion Phaneuf: 2 G 20 A 22 Points in 31 games
D: Nick Boynton: 14 G 32 A 46 Points in 80 games
C/RW: Mike Fisher: 13 G 19 A 63 Points in 63 games

and I have to mention also the good work of the rookies:

LW: Vladislav Kostyukhin: 32 G 46 A 78 Points in 82 games
D: A.J. Thelen: 4 G 31 A 35 Points in 64 games
D: Tysen Dowzak: 2 G 7 A 9 Points in 30 games

Here some of the major trophies of the 08-09:

Art Ross Trophy: Ilya Kowalchuk (ATL)
Hart Trophy: Ilya Kowalchuk (ATL)
Vezina Trophy: Roberto Luongo (TOR)
Norris Trophy: Chris Pronger (MIN)
Calder Trophy: Vladislav Kostyukhin (BOS)
Conn Smythe Trophy: Jarome Iginla (CAL)
Frank J. Selke Trophy: Kris Draper (DET)
Lady Bing Trophy: Mike York (TB)

One of the good things was that I signed most of the important player to multiyear contracts, so I really had nobody really important leaving the team. Among who was leaving at the end of the season was RW Jason Pominville, LW Travis Moen, C Wacey Rabbit and D Mark Stuart (who was asking too much fo the 20 points he was producing...).

Then came the draft and one of the good things in being 11th of the Eastern Conference was that we had nº12 selection. St. Louis has nº 1 and we tried to trade their pick for ours, togheter with some other draft picks, but they didnt agree....

The thing was that the nº1 player on the draft was C: John Tavares from the OHL, followed by Floridas nº2 who was RW Tadz Way and Colorado had nº3, who was D: Olivier Swanson.

At the end we drafted promising LW from the czech republic Rotislav Evan, who was rated nº 7 in the ISS rankings.
Other notable Bruins draftees:

Round 2 Pick 12: RW: Vinnie Dias (from Georgetown...transfer to Nebraska-Omaha College)
2/23: LW: Jordie Hobbs (Plymouth, OHL)
3/12: C/RW: Max Anderson (Brampton, OHL)
4/4: D: Louis Chabot (Montcon, QMJHL)
4/12: G: Otakar Duben (Opava, Cze-2)

...then I went  because there was a swiss prospect, his name is Julien Andermatten, who is from the same little town where I lived all my life, until moving to Spain: Effretikon.
That was funny!!!

It was now free agency time: we really had no reason to go for big player, because I was happy with the team we had built in the last season, althrough it probably cost the playoffs, but never mind.

We picked up RW: Jordin Tootoo and D: Nolan Yonkman from the free agency and we also moved up some of the prospects we had drafted some years earlier like D: Marc-Antoine Desnoyers, RW: Tomas Marcinko and RW: Peter Stefl.

Now it was time to prepare for the new season....

--------------------------------------

More to come soon...............

Just press the 'Print Screen' key to right of all the 'F' keys and then copy paste it into a 'Paint' document or something.
