Ultimate Hockey Sim (Development Halted)
Greetings everyone! While It may seem as if I am new on the forums, it is actually far from the truth. I have been monitoring many EHM communities for over 2 years (including this one for over a year). As I have continued to play EHM 05-07, I have not only heard but realized the need for a successor. Nothing can take the originality away from the franchise, but one can at least try to duplicate the experience, and make it much better.
I have embarked on a project that I KNOW will stretch the limits of my knowledge. Ultimate Hockey Sim is my idea that is being created in the eye of EHM. Features will be updated, created, and vastly improved. Features like the scouting system, player development, and the draft. Newer features would include stadium ownership (move your team to a different state/country), creating new leagues, and much more.
Now I have come to this community because I have noticed the dedication to the game. Dedication matters when created a project of this size.
I have come to a point in the project where I have hit a wall, a programming/coding wall (the worst kind). I need the help of some community members. Those of you who know C++ can be of great help to me. You can not only be apart of my team, but you can be the first to test it as well. Every little bit counts.
More details on the game coming soon.
PM me if you are interested in helping.
Thanks!

Good luck with creating a new hockey management game!
As Philou said, we've got a forum member named Dabo that is also working on developing a game and he's gotten quite a bit of support and interest. There's always room for another hockey project!
Unfortunately, I don't have the programming knowledge to offer you the help you're looking for but as I'm sure you can see from looking in the Dabo Hockey Manager forum, there's not shortage on ideas for a potential game.

Thanks very much! I have taken a look into dabo's project, and it seems as if we are traveling on different tracks. However, some of the solutions to his problems have gone noticed by myself, and will be considered into the game.
Development is slow right now, as I said above about my issues. I am hopeful though that I can get at least 1 person to help me out.

I have great news, I have found a programmer who is willing to help me with the project. This means that the development continues as planned.
This is where I need everyones help! I need ideas, concepts, and whatever else you feel should go in the game. Each week I am going to post a topic, and I need everyone to discuss possible features for the topic.
The first topic is Attributes-How should attributes progress? How many different attributes should be included (same as EHM 07? Or more)?
Lets discuss, post your thoughts please

Check this section of TBL. There is already activity to create new hockey sim game. You can inspire yourself by some ideas we gathered together (and we continue in it).
Attributes have thei own thread. Is it long enough?
Another useful thread is here.
Good luck

Good luck UHS. How far have you gotten so far? From your first post in this thread, it sounds like you've already started coding.
Are there just the two of you working on your project or are there more? Out of curiosity I'd be interested to know their forum names if they're members of TBL / SI Forums / TBN / etc.
You'll see that we have plenty of users here enthusiastic to offer suggestions and feedback with regards to features, etc. If you need help with things like testing, graphics designing and anything else we will do our best to help (though I don't think there are many users here with programming knowledge).
I just want to further the suggestion already made a few times in this thread: Be sure to check out the Dabo Hockey Manager forum (link) as it contains plenty of ideas and discussion. McQwak has kindly provided the relevant links regarding attributes for you to look at - perhaps that will help you get started?
Be sure to keep us all updated and let us know if you have any further questions, etc.

To be precise, the interface is 100% done. The interface includes drop boxes for selection, messaging systems, press conferences, interacting with other players, interacting with staff, and more. I have already moved on to the hardest part of the game (attributes). I have no clue how long this portion of the game will take, but all I can say is that we are trying to incorporate the attributes to make them as realistic as possible.
As for the other programmer working on this game...He does not reside on these forums. He actually has game development experience (as do i), meaning he is an old friend of mine.
I look in dabo's forums from time to time, just to see how he solved some of his problems.
I really do thank everyone for their support.
Stay tuned for a screenshot soon!

Ill show the loading screen for now, just until the other stuff is ready to show. Keep in mind this is all subject to change at any time, and it is also all skin graphics (not final).

When you say that you're taking your game in a different direction than Dabo's, can you elaborate? From what we've heard from Dabo, it seems like he's doing something similar to an updated version of EHM with the addition of some of the community's suggestions. What type of game are you planning that is different than that?

[UHS] Be a player mode
just about everything in this game will be changed from EHM 07. Yes it may share some similar features, but this game is aimed towards the "ultimate" aspect of any simulation. What do i mean by this? It's simple! The full build of the game will include real life aspects. Why just be a manager when you can be a coach, scout, trainer, or even a PLAYER? Play your way from a low division as a 14 year old, all the way to a 19 year old phenom hockey prospect. Do you want to play juniors? Maybe college? Or work your way up from the ECHL? Train in the gym, increase your stats, talk to other players on the team, select your players tendencies.
The be a player mode is just the tip of the ice burg....
This is what I mean by "different".

Ah, so your game is more from the perspective of being an individual, not necessarily being a GM or coach? For example, we could start out as a junior player, work our way up to getting drafted, play a full career in the minors and NHL, and then retire from our playing career and maybe be a scout, coach, or GM? If so, that's an interesting angle.

That definitely is "ultimate". Would these all be separate modes, or one big one? For example, would you start a game as a player, and work all the way through your career up to coach or GM all in one save, or would there be separate game modes that focus solely on each role's career?
I think if it was all one big "career game", it could be a really fun concept.
EDIT: darn it, b72! Beating me to it...

To answer both of your questions...Be a player is a completely different mode. You can start out in any profession you would like. If you want to be a GM only, then you may do so. You do not have to play through the be a player mode to get to that point.
In regards to the be a player mode...If you do decide to retire from your NHL career (lets say at 40 years old), you will be presented the choice of working for your current team (or any other teams). You cannot retire and then become a GM, you need to work your way up to that. For instance, I retire and decide I want to be a coach. I ask the team if they would be willing to hire me as an assistant coach (you have to start out as the low man on the totem poll). If they accept, then I will be given responsibilities of an assistant coach (you can choose from 3 different types) (assistant goalie, rookie, and skating coach).
If you fulfill the teams wishes, eventually you will be promoted to Head Coach. At that point you can have the choice of working your way to assistant GM, and then the GM spot.
EDIT- Keep in mind that not every be a player career can turn out into you being a phenom hockey player. It all depends on how hard you work out, practice, and make the right decisions. You may not even make it to the NHL level (AHL'er for life). You could be the teams designated 3-4th liner.
