Faceoff Hockey 2010 release imminent?

Post by archibalduk »

It's common knowledge that Faceoff Hockey 2010 is likely to be released at some point this month. However Gary Gorski of Wolverine Studios has hinted it may be sooner rather than later this month:

I've never even heard of this. Has anyone else played this? And if so, is it any good?

i tried the one (free) version and i was quite confussed about all the ratings and attributes. To be honest, i didn't put in the time and didn't give the game a chance for the interface wasn't the most user friendly and i just didn't have to time. On top of that is was a really old season disk.

I think if the interface is nice and user to use i will highly consider buying it even though its a single season sim for now.

The art design they say will be similar to their DDSPB which is a decent game but personally i'm not a fan of the art style at all but i can look past most of it.

I think this franchise is and will be the closest thing we'll get to EHM. (no offence to those other two making their games - i just feel that life gets in the way of projects like that so i'm somewhat skeptical about them being released anytime soon. I've had my hopes up for some freeware before that just disappeared)

to add what i said above, i will get it for sure if they offer all (past) season disks for no extra charge.

I might be interested in trying a demo but I don't know if I'd be that interested in a single season game. I might just wait for the one they make that allows a career to be played.

I'd be very interested in a demo too. If nothing else, it'll help me get some insight into how the game works and how perhaps it could evolve into a multi-season career sim ala EHM.

Yes, it is. But only a single season sim.

Single season??? That'll get old pretty quick! Lets hope they whip an editor out fairly quick(like Football Manager 10's would be awesome) or able to provide more seasons via a patch if thats possible?

They tend to release lots of seasons which are called season disks. Again, you can only sim that one season and then you're done.

There's a little more info and discussion here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... php?t=4007

I'll try and post a screenshot for you at some point this weekend.

Unfortunately I can't say I was impressed with how the game looks like (it's a bit Windows 95 if you know what I mean). I guess Wolverine spent all of their time working on the actual gameplay and neglected the user interface. My impression is that as the game's release had been so significantly delayed, Brian wanted to release the game without further delay rather than polish it off. Indeed he did say recently that he released the game early without some features he wanted to implement and is now introducing those features in future patches.

I think the difficulty is that there is mostly just one person working on the game part time. Also this is the first version of a complete rewrite of the game. I'm sure once he's finished the all of the main features he'll work on the UI.
