Just made a Fantasy Draft with the Lidas 3.0 database. Did end up pretty good. Made a few trades to make it look like this. I think I have to make som more changes to fit the salarycap though.

Detroit Red Wings (I did it as Tampa first, but quit since I had problems as Tampa did not have an AHL affiliate.)

Ovechkin - Zetterberg - Doan
Eriksson - Backes - Franzén
Stålberg - Leino - Zherdev
Cooke - Påhlsson - Clutterbuck <- Nice checking line!
Bergenheim

Weber - Byfuglien
Corvo - Oduya
Jones - Ericsson
Sloan

Gustafsson
Lehtonen

I only drafted Gustafsson with a late pick, and some prospect goalies with the hope to sign free agent Nabokov or Emery, but failed. So I traded for Lehtonen. Other players I traded in were Cooke, Påhlsson and Backes. Dont remember who I traded away more than Filppula, Burish and Harju.

If I send Bergenheim to Griffins I fit the cap with about 2 Million SEK (About 300,000$) Thats a liitle bit to tight. I cant bring a reserv in without putting someone on the IR.

Need to cheapen up a bit. I think about letting Sammy Påhlsson or Clutterbuck go. Any tips on who I shoud bring in instead?

the original DB, it's the start of the 2021-22 season, the coyotes are defending their fifth cup and this is their line-up

Vasily Perezhogin - Leo Aucoin (c) - Envir Lisin*
Martin Hanzal* - Jimmy-Carl Joseph - Rostislav Olesz*
Antonin Klíma - Ben Daigneault - Rustem Rybin
Gilbert Laplante - Jakub Riha - Luc Gauvin

Henrik Frylén - Colten Teubert*
Ilya Zhukov - Colton Brouwer
Keaton Ellerby* - Brett Abel
Keith Yandle*

Antero Nyttimäki*
Martin Norgren

*was in the game at the start of the campaign.

Nytti is 41, so i'm hoping Norgren is up to the task. Lisin - 700 goals, who knew he'd win all kinds of awards - has spent his career with me. he's 35. i'm hoping he'll retire with me. likewise with Hanzal.
anyway, most of them aren't amazing if you look at their stats, but they do have their moments as a unit.

We have so many new people who need to be taught the art of correctly typing Niittymäki's name.

Maybe we should have an automated code that detects wrongly spelled Niittymäki-names. I should talk to Archi about that, I think... :-D

I play with Detroit Red Wings using edited original db. I dominated first season early, but Wings dropped down, position was finally 9th, so Wings were out of playoffs.

For next season I signed John Grahame, Dave Scathard, Ryan Wilson (3rd round pick 2007), Bates Battaglia and Ville Leino. I also signed Martin Rucinsky but he retired just before season start. At December, I traded Evan McGrath (who was Grand Rapids' 1st line center) to Calgary for Marcus Nilson, who had problems to be choosen to Calgary's line-up (22 games, 3+4=7, 10 pms, +2, av. rat. 6,96). Last season he scored 12+10=22 in 74 games, having 33 pms and +9. He shined in playoffs (06-07) by scored 2+3 in 7 games having 7,43 average rating. I put him to play with Datsyuk and Holmström and he finished with 17+13=30 in 57 games (overall: 79 games 20+17=37, 30 pms, +9).

I had also problems with long-term injured players: Niklas Kronwall (47, 6+15=21, 14 pms, +5) injured in early January and he will be out for season start, over 8 months. Best points scorer Henrik Zetterberg (68, 30+34=64, 14 pms, -3) got injury in early March and he returned to line-up at playoffs (8 games, 2+2=4, 6 pms). Valtteri Filppula (45 games, 8+10=18, 12pms, -18 ) was firstly my 13th forward cause he started poorly. After Zeta's injury I let him play at 3rd line and in 2pp and he played well (last 6 games, 3+3=6, no penalties, +3), but finally he got injury late March.

I finished season at 3rd in Western Coference. At first playoff round I played against Blue Jackets. I won series 4-1. At second round I played against Sharks (2nd in West). First game I won 3-2, Holmstöm scored hattrick. At second game I was losing 2-0 but Lang tied at 57:20. That didn't help: Sharks' Owen Nolan (who was very dangerous at that playoff serie) scored game-winning goal at overtime. Third game was my home game, but we sucked and lost 0-6 (Nolan 2 goals). Result was same at 4th game, Nolan scored 2+1. Wings won 5th game easily 6-2. 6th was exciting, even though I lead 3-0 after first period. I won finally 4-2. It was time of game 7: at first period Holmström scored, but Matt Carle tied at pp. Joe Thornton scored 2-1 at second period, I though I'm out of Conference finals. BUT, Johan "Mule" Franzen tied at 48:50. No more goals, it was time of overtime: at 75:40 my 4th line winger Josh Langfeld hitted Jeremy Roenick behind Sharks net. Puck goes to Kris Draper who passed to Battaglia... GOAAAALLL!!! I went to Conference finals against Anaheim Ducks.

First game was tied 1-1 until Lang scored 2-1 win at overtime. 2nd game was show of my 3rd line center Lang and 4th line. Lang scored 2 goals and Battaglia (0+2), Draper (0+1) and Langfeld (1+0) had big role at my 3-0 win. 3rd game was Duck-show, Scott Niedermayer scored 2 goals in their 3-0 win. My first pp unit ruled the 4th game: Datsyuk (1+1), Holmström (1+1) and Franzen (0+2) were in flames in my 2-0 win. Zeta made comeback to my line-up at that game. 5th game went to overtime when game was tied 1-1. Chris Kunitz scored Ducks' 2-1 game-winning goal. 6th game was mine: Ducks' goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere injured at first period and backup goalie Ilya Bryzgalov couldn't help his team losing to me. I won 4-2, Nicklas Lidström scored 1+1, Datsyuk 0+2 and Holmström 1+1. Jonathan Ericsson replaced injured Nick Boynton at that game and scored his first goal in NHL. It was also his first and only playoff game. Wings won series 4-2 and we went to Stanley Cup finals against New Jersey Devils.

1st game was Wings: we won 5-3. Wilson (1+1), Franzen (2+1), Scatchard (0+2), Lang (0+2), Holmström (1+1) and Samuelsson (0+2) were my best players at that game. I lead 2nd game 1-0 until Devils scored 2 goals at late third period. 3rd game was show of Wings defense: Grahame played shutout at 3-0 win, Lidas and Wilson assisted both two goals. 4th game was mine, Wings won 4-2, Datsyuk assisted 3 goals and Nilson scored 1+1. 5th game was a big hockey show: I lead 3-0 after first period and 5-1 at 36:01, but then Devils scored a goal 12 seconds after Langfelds 5-1 goal. One minute later Scott Gomez scored 3-5 goal and I started praying for no more goals. [-o< Brian Gionta scored 4-5 at 52:07 but that was last goal of that game and season. SO I WAS STANLEY CUP CHAMPIOOONN!!!! Lidas scored 0+2, Datsyuk 2+0, Scatchard 1+1 and Samuelsson 1+1.

My line up at final game:

Nilson - Datsyuk - Holmström
Franzen - Scathcard - Samuelsson
Zetterberg - Lang - Hudler
Battaglia - Draper - Langfeld

Lidström - Boynton
Fischer - Lilja
Kronwall/Quincey - Wilson

Before Kronwall's injury, he played with Lilja and Fischer played with Wilson.

Filppula played in several roles.

Jason Williams' poor performances made him 13th forward after Zeta's injury.

Grahame 51, 32-12-5, 2.50, 91.5%, 2 so, 8.45

Leino 1 0+0=0, -1, 2 pim, 6.00

Interesting thing about season: 43-year-old Dominik Hasek is unhappy, cause he wants new contract. :-p I'm very interested about signing him, but when I offer a contract to him, he rejects it.

The quest to return to Stanley Cup glory continues as the Rangers were knocked out in the first round, 7 years after their last Championship triumph. (I almost ragequited my GM posrt after the loss  )

We have a good group of veteran and young fowards but our young defensemen have been underwhelming...

I don't have space to add a UFA so I'll have to wait for the deadline to bolster my lackluster top 4.

I need to win in the next couple of years before my kids start asking for the moon and the oldies pass the top of the hill. I have some nice prospects/young players to throw around so I should be able to bring in an All-Star or two in February.

Best laid plans and all that.

Minnesota Wild

Post by Peanut »

Image

Just Finished my third season as the GM of Minnesota Wild and it was a very good year!
We finished 7th in the Western Conference but we knocked the 2nd ranked team, Detroit Red Wings, in the first round of the playoffs, 4-2.
In the next round we were going to meet Colorado Avalanche. And we beat them, 4-0.
In the Western Conference Final we were going to meet Vancouver Canucks and i thought that would be a hard series. But we CRUSHED them, and won the series 4-0.
Then in the Final, Tampa Bay was our opponents. They won the first game in Xcel Energy Center with 2-6. But we bounced back in the next game and won with 5-0. Then we were going to St. Pete Times Forum, and we won the first game with 3-4. We also won game 2 in St. Pete with 0-5 again. Back in Minnesota they beat us 1-6 and they won the next game too, with 2-1. Then, it was Game 7, in Xcel Energy Center. I wanted this Cup Ring SO bad! And what a game! After the first, we were in the lead, 4-0! Then Nick Schultz scored 5-0 in the third and we are the Champions!

The team i played with, bigger part of the season, was:

Ovechkin - Zetterberg - Doan
Eriksson - Backes - Franzén
Stålberg - Leino - Zherdev
Cooke - Påhlsson - Clutterbuck <- Nice checking line!
Bergenheim

Weber - Byfuglien
Corvo - Oduya
Jones - Ericsson
Sloan

Gustafsson
Lehtonen
Im now 50 games into the season and I'm in top of the conference.

I traded away Corvo for Brett Clark witch gave me a bit more, but well needed cap-space. I also traded away Sloan who never got to play. Leino were really bad. With an average rating at 5,9. I traded him away for Linus Omark. Bergenheim has also left the team, and Stålberg serves time in Griffins. So at the moment my third line is Omark - Harju - Zherdev, or Omark - Backes - Harju. Vladimir Zharkov gets a lot of first team time as well, when he's not injured that is, witch is most of the time.
I brought in Jordin Tootoo to serve in the checkingline instead of Clutterbuck to be a budget alternative, but after the Corvo-trade, Clutterbuck fits the cap and Tootoo will probably leave the team soon.
My goto seventh and eight defenders are Matt Lashoff and Nigel Williams who are superb in Griffins and perform ok when I call them up. My biggest issue now is to get Oduya to perform better. He's average rating is 6.0. He never does better, and never worse. The manager in me want so trade him away, but I really like Oduya so thats hard.
Zherdev is strange. He dont make a lot of fuzz in the third line, but when I moved him to the first line when I had both Eriksson and Ovechkin injured he scores 4 goals per game. I guess it's Zetterberg who feeds him with great passes. I occationally move him to the second line and move down Backes to the third.
Also, Lehtonen is fantastic! My intentions was to let Lehtonen and "The Monster" Gustafsson share the goaltending duty, but halfway into the season Lehtonen clearly is number 1.

It's been a while since I posted an update on my career with the Pens...

In a nutshell, season 2 went much better than the first, but I still didn't bring the Cup home to the 'burgh. I finished as the President's trophy winner, but got ousted in the second round by, you guessed it, the Devils.

I don't know all the details off hand (my roster, stats, etc.). I don't have the game in front of me, so once I get everything jotted down, I let you know the specifics.

I regressed a little bit in season 3 (I went from the President's trophy winner, to 2nd in the conference and I believe 3rd or 4th in the league). However, I'm having a much better go 'round in the playoffs. I swept the Sabres in round 1 (they beat me in the regular season 3-0-1) and then I swept the Lightning in round 2 (they too beat me in the regular season 3-0-1). The President's trophy winning Capitals, despite all their success in the regular season, lost in the 2nd round. :joy:

Next up are the conference finals vs. the Montreal Canadiens. I had the upper hand in the regular season 3-1. So far, I have Fleury (under 2 GAA) or Andrew Ladd (16 pts in 8 games, I traded for him during the offseason and he has not disappointed) as the Conn Smythe. Hopefully I'll be able to bring home my first cup in EHM '07.

As usual, I did some wheeling and dealing during the season - I traded for Chris Pronger, Alex Frolov, Andrew Ladd, etc. I'll post all the specs once I jot down the details. I'm more of a win now kinda guy...I don't have any first rounders the next two seasons, but with the core of guys that I still have signed (Crosby, Ladd, Frolov, Staal, Malkin, Fleury, etc) I'm not worried just yet.

Okay...this should get you caught up through three full seasons of play

Since the start of season 1, these are the notable players that I've brought in:
Seabrook, Comeau, Grier (won Selke in season 2), Ehrhoff, Giroux, Stuart, Ladd, Moreau, Pronger, Ortmeyer, and Frolov - I had quite a list of other trades/waiver acquisitions, but most of them were either sent to the minors or were depth players. These are the notable players that I sent out: Talbot, Kennedy, Goligoski, Michalek, Martin, Rupp, Dupuis, Fedotenko (signed as FA, but was a bust), Letang, Cooke (was great the first two seasons, but I decided to package him in a deal), Kunitz (also was great, but injury prone), Asham, and Sutherby (waiver acquisition wasn't working out). Again, there were other players and picks traded out, but most of which were depth or guys in the minors that weren't going to make the team.

At the start of season 3, my backup goalie, Brent Johnson, decided to retire - In season 2, he played over a dozen games and had only 1 OT loss (no regulation losses). He filled in quite nicely. With that being said, I had to scramble to find a backup since I don't have much going in the minors or prospects. I signed RFA Hannu Toivonen for a great price, and it only cost me a third rounder.

My Roster at playoff time for season 3 (I had 26 guys called up):
Defense - Babchuk, Kwiatkowski, Orpik, Stuart, Ehrhoff, Pronger, and Seabrook
Forwards - Frolov, Ladd, Moreau, Tangradi, Arnason, Betts, Crosby, Lapierre, Lundmark, Malkin, Staal, Adams, Comeau, Giroux, Grier, Ortmeyer, and Tripp
Goalies - Fleury and Toivonen
On the farm - Gordon, Fedoruk, Hannula, Robitaille, among many others

For those of you wondering...average salary was $56M with the cap at $59.6 (I never changed it). However, my annual salaries are $65.565 (and I'm still under budget).

I finished the season with 108 points (I had 122 the prior season) with a record of 51-25-6. That was good enough for 2nd in the east, behind the Capitals with 118.

Here's how I faired in GF and GA: 1st in GF with 338 for an average of 4.09. 7th in GA with 240 for an average of 2.85. I'd like to see my GAA go down next season.

PP% was 8th at 16.8 and PK% was 6th at 85.9.

Here are the top 5 point scorers on my team at the end of season 3 (regular season)...
Crosby 50 60 110 +47
Ladd 39 57 96 +43
Staal 42 52 94 +68
Malkin 44 49 93 +45 (spent two months on IR)
Tangradi 36 53 89 +44

Honorable mention - Frolov was acquired before trade deadline had 32 points in 22 games. That's a 118 pace for a full season. That was a nice pick up for me!

Now, back to the playoffs...as mentioned, I swept the first two rounds between the Sabres and then the Lightning. Conference finals put me up against Mtl. Here's how it played out....I swept them! Game 1 8-3, game 2 5-4, game 3 5-1, game 4 6-2.

The LA Kings wound up ousting the Flames and it was on the the Stanley Cup finals. I'm proud to say, that I finally won the Cup!! It took 7 games though:
Game 1 I lost 5-3 - after making a few adjustments...
Game 2 I won 4-0
Game 3 I won 2-1 (Crosby gets hurt and misses game 4)
Game 4 I won 5-3 (Turns out I didn't need Crosby)
Game 5 I lost 3-1 (Crosby back, but doesn't matter)
Game 6 I lost 4-2 (and now I'm starting to worry)
Game 7 I won 4-2

Awards:
Conn Smythe - Surprisingly went to Crosby 11 16 27 in 18 games
Jack Adams - Dan Bylsma
Vezina - Fleury was third in voting - Hopefully he wins it next season

Now it's on to a shortened offseason, I'm getting ready for draft day. I'm pondering whether or not I should trade Pronger since his speed is now 9 and he's 38 years old.
