Grizzley Bears in the Forest (Chilliwack Bruins Story)

Post by MKoivuFan »

For this story I used the an old TBLv1.4 or 5 can’t remember, I quick simmed through the 2006-2007 season and then rook over my favorite WHL team after the last day of the season which is March 18th 2007. That favorite WHL team of my is the Chilliwack Bruins.

Our development club is the Westside Warriors of the BCHL league. Just a bit of history this past season, Chilliwack Bruins finished last in their division with 63 points 2 pts out of a playoff spot behind Kelowna who finished with 65 points. Regina finished below them with 63 pts however they made the playoffs. The only 3 lowest teams in the standings that didn’t make the playoffs were Seattle Thunderbirds, Prince Albert Raiders and Swift Current Broncos.

Our Rivals are Vancouver Giants and Kelowna Rockets

March 18th

After a disappointing season that saw us miss the playoffs, the team decided to fire the GM and have decided to name Rick Stevens as the new GM. I have yet to decide on what I want to do this upcoming season as we maybe ready to make the playoffs but I don’t think we are ready to make a memorial cup run so we might be in a bit of a mix of playoffs/rebuild until our group is ready to make the playoffs as we are in a very competitive BC Division.

My first job as GM was to fire Jim Hiller, assistant coach Peter Hay, Dan Price as we have decided to keep goalie coach Brady Robinson and defense coach Brad Werenka.

As far as scouts we decided to let go of Pat Corrado, Ray Ference, Dan Noble, Murray Porter, and Lorne Sanders. We have decided to keep scouts Dave Smith and Rob Morphy. Smith will head out to scout the WHL Bantam draft and Morphy will begin to head to Europe to scout for the CHL Import draft.

We begin our search to replace the fired staff and improve our staff. We also looked through our reserve list as we have 43 of a possible 50 players as we plan on making room for our upcoming draft class.

Before I move on I thought I would mention that the previous gm made two trades this past season sending our 11th pick to Medicine Hat for Colton Grant and our 10th pick to Vancouver for Mitch Czibere.

Our club finished with a record of:

72gp 28-37-1-6 .438 186 GF 222 GA 14.3 PP (13th) 85.3 PK (11th) 63pts

March 20th

Our Bruins organization has decided to release defenseman Craig Lineker as he is now 21 yrs of age, Stephane Lenoski has decided to join Carolina in July 5th, Chad Scharff will be joining Chicago on June 20th, we have also released Tyler Esau who was playing for our development club but we don’t see him in our plans. Defenseman Tony Francoeur also saw himself being released as he also played for our development club who I thought he wasn’t in our clubs future plans. The rest of the releases saw Jacob Young (overage rule 20 next season), Levi Brotnov (going college route), LW Thomas Margetak (overage next season), D Ryan Smith, C Harkie Webb.

Right now we have 6 overagers next season Sawyer Eichel, Myles Stoesz, Ken Petkau, Nick Holden and Alex Archibald and Dylan Chapman. Alex and Nick already will be 2 out of the 3 as the other 4 are going to be battling for that last overage spot.

Right now that leaves us with 35 players on our reserve list which we will be down to move once we decide who that other overage player is.

***

March 22nd

Our Bruins have named Damon Dardis (American) to our training staff, Seth Russo (American) as our assistant gm, Kari Hiltunen (Finnish) to our scouting staff, Darby Kemp (American) to our scouting staff.

Our staff have yet to decide on the fait of center Aki Kangasmaki as it all depends on who we take in the 2007 CHL Import draft with our top pick.

***

March 23rd, Game 1

Our Bruins continue to fill our staff as we name Jan-Ake Westlund (Sweden) to our scouting staff, Nikita Ivanin (Russian) to our training staff, Veli-Matti Turunen (Finnish) as our Head Coach, Mario Kargl (Austrian) as a Scout, Vitali Busch (German) as a Scout, Doug Johnson (American) as our forward coach, Ross Hughes (British) as a scout

We made a bit of a blockbuster deal in a sense trading rights to goalie Donivan Seguin (9th round pick in 184th overall in 07) (34gp 7-21-6 3.80 GAA .883 Sv % 0 SO 7.29 AvR), rights to Ian Seguin (6th round 106th overall in 07 bantam draft), rights to Jesse Hall (33gp 12g 11a 23pts +20 61 PIM and 6.27 AvR) and Zac Ashdown (Seattle’s 2nd in 06 bantam draft) (33gp 15g 20a 35pts +19 64PIM 6.52 AvR) to Red Deer Rebels for rights to Center Jeremi McDonnell (1st round 11th overall in 07 bantam draft)(27gp 3g 9a 12pts -10 36PIM 5.93 AvR)

March 2007 - End of the Season - Victoria Royals

Post by MKoivuFan »

March 1st

Just a break down in the WHL in the last 18 days of the season, we are 1 point out of a playoff spot as Kamloops has two games in game. We have 6 games left of the season 3 are against Kamloops Blazers, two against Vancouver Giants and 1 against Everett Silvertips.

In the East Division Swift Current has 79 pts in third so theres 3 teams battling for that last playoff spot in Prince Albert Raiders with 67 pts 7 games left, Saskatoon Blades with 65 pts with 9 games left, Moose Jaw Warriors 64pts 8 games left.

In Central Division Edmonton Oil Kings currently hold the 4th spot 2 pts ahead of the Calgary Hitmen but Hitmen have 2 games in hand as Oil Kings had 56 pts and Hitmen has 54.

In the US Division Tri-City holds a five point lead over Spokane as Americans has 63 to Spokane’s 58 but Spokane still has 1 game in hand.

We begin the month of March with two games back to back on the road against Kamloops. We have Chase Schmidt, Matt Cline and Brayden Irwin on the top line, Jan Urbas, Daivd Robinson and Riley Reinbolt on the second line with Colt Graf, Sean Nugent and Mike bolzon on the third line.

March 2nd

We look to continue our fighting spot for the playoffs as we are on the road for the first of two games starting tonight against Kamloops Blazers. Riley Reinbolt makes his Royals Debut as Lucas Gore starts in goal.

March 3rd

We look re bound back after last night with a second road game against Kamloops Blazers

March 6th

We got word from our training staff that Ryan Howse and Troy Murray will be able to play in our remaining four games. Lucas Gore recently missed practice as he will miss his start on the 8th against Vancouver due to the missed practice.

Polacarz (11) (Robinson)

Final: 4-3 OTL

Esposito 19 of 23 saves; Troy Murray 3rd star 1a; Pawel Polacarz 2nd star 1g

There is a 3 way tie for kind of 3rd/4th as us, Kamloops and Prince George all have 63 pts. Kamloops has 2 games in hand on us but Prince George has a game on hand on Kamloops. We need to have Vancouver beat Kamloops the game tomorrow and on the 10th and Portland to beat them on the 14th for us to even have a shot at beating Kamloops for that 4th spot.

March 10th

WHL Player of the Week: Lethbridge’s Ben Wright 2gp 2g 4a 6pts

March 11th

Lucas Gore is in goal tonight as we are on the road against Everett Silvertips.

Victoria Royals (26-32-11) @ Everett Silvertips (31-30-6)

Reinbolt (2) (Polacarz, Spurgeon)
Irwin (11)
Schmidt (15) (Nugent)

Final: 6-3 L

Gore 11 of 15 saves; Esposito 8 of 10 saves

Our only way to make the playoffs now being 2 pts back is in Kamloops loses their last three games in Portland, Kelowna and against us

After the game we came to terms with 20 yr old 88 born goalie Ryan Hieszner hoping maybe he can shine some light on our playoff hopes

March 12th

We have sent out our scouts to go scout prospects for the upcoming bantam draft. We don’t have any picks in first or second round so we have to rely on our scouts to find hidden gems from rounds 3-15

March 14th

With Kamloops losing to Portland today it comes down to the last two days of the season. Kamloops plays Kelowna and us and we play Vancouver and them. For us to make the playoffs we need to win both games and they need to lose both games.

March 16th

Ryan Hieszner makes his Royal debut tonight against Vancouver Giants on home ice

Vancouver Giants (40-28-2) @ Victoria Royals (26-33-11)

Urbas (16) (Spurgeon) PP
Reinbolt (3) (Schmidt, Murray) PP
Irwin (12) (Graf, Cline) PP
Spurgeon (12) (Nichol) PP
Urbas (17) (Robinson, Murray)
Oatway (9)
Irwin (13) (Cline, Oatway)

Final: 7-3 W

Nieszner 20 of 23 saves; Jan Urbas 1st star 2g; Brayden Irwin 2nd star 2g; Matt Cline 3rd star 2a

Kamloops lost to Kelowna 3-2 in regulation, so tomorrow’s game whomever wins makes the playoffs

Here comes overtime, as well we start overtime being shorthanded with 47 seconds left in the power play. With 55 seconds left Matt Cline is pulled down on a break away and give a penalty shot for a chance to win the game. Matt Cline scores on the penalty shot to give Victoria the 4-3 win in overtime at 64:05 and clinches the last playoff spot.

Final: 4-3 OTW

Team: Kamloops – Victoria

With that last win over Kamloops it gave us 67 pts and Kamloops 66 pts to leap over them for the 4th place and final playoff spot.
