Who else was playing on that line with Koivu and Cole? Was Fisher on their line? Whoever it was, they must've made a good line. I still don't regret trading Koivu. He just wasn't cutting it for me.E5150_ca wrote:This picture is dedicated to everyone who either

Yeah, my wall came as soon as I lost Koivu to injury. It's like the whole team just gave up. You'd think the Habs would be used to not having him on the active roster after recent years.Minstrel wrote:munky wrote:March 3 - I was fired.

Challenges I guess really magnify mistakes and roster issues, etc. making it even more important to do the things you need to do to build a balanced team that has the best chance to be competetive even if the breaks and/or schedule, injuries etc. start to catchup to the team.
It's the core of why this concept works though; because it's not easy and it's that process of guiding your team betweento
to
to
and all points inbetween that really makes you understand and learn the game. When you test yourself with the Challenge setup you'll be amazed how easy you'll find it when you do a game without the tough rules but using lessons learned...

I cloned my sorry self and finished out the season. We actually finished by winning 5 of the last ten if my memory serves me.
Mikhail Grabovsky walked off with an extra $300K in performance bonuses, having scored 15 goals, 15 assists and 30 points. I don't mind paying it.
Tomas Holmstrom racked up 20 points in 23 games, perhaps if I had him all season things would have been different.

I managed to blackmail a bunch of key guys to come back for another kick at the can. I knew those incriminating pictures would come in handy some day.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's really bad when your whole defense can't play a game without being tired after. It's also hard to decide who's going to play on the top lines when the guys with the skill to play there can't take a regular shift.Minstrel wrote:Okay, upon my first look I can say that I will be trading the entire team basically.Has this team ever had a conditioning coach that knows what the words "cardio" and "endurance" means? It's pathetic...

I just finished my regular season. I came soooo close to getting the #1 spot in my conference. I tied Ottawa in points (117) but they had more wins than me (57 vs 54). So even though I'm tied for the most points in the conference (and league actually), I'm the #4 seed in the conference.
I'm still not very pleased with my special teams, my power play especially. My team also had a hard time putting up many shots over the last bunch of games. We were almost always outshot by at least 10. We didn't have any major injuries though, just a few games lost here and there by various players.
We're facing the Penguins in the 1st round of the playoffs. We split our 4 games with them this season 2-2 but they outscored us by 2 goals overall. We'll see how it goes in the post season!

Every time I start a new Challenge, and it's usually in a 'battle' for coaches at the beginning of the game, I see a news item that says (in this case) "Coach X signs with Canadiens." I say
how the hell did the Canadiens sign him instead of me?? I also see that some has accepted a trade with the Hurricans and I think "I didn't even make an offer to Colorado...
" It's so confusing
Anyhow, I've been wheelin and dealin like a used car salesman from day 1 and now just after camp I at least have a lineup set to go. I'm still trying to deal Ribiero because I don't want that punk on my roster; no room for his shenanigans on my team. I of course have had the fans and the board circling around my hotel carrying torches and pitchforks burning me in effigy a few times
but I also had one where the board noted they were very happy with my deal so it's about standard.

Games 21-40 went incredibly well with a 17-2-1 record. The big change is that I set my first 3 lines to attacking, skating, and positional. Of course, this has increased scoring to 5.6 goals per game, but my defense is horrible with a 3.45 goals against per game. I tried both Theodore and Huet and decided that I will play Huet as long as his morale is better than Jose’s. Injuries have not been a problem as of yet, with 11 of my 20 players playing all 40 games. One thing I do that I think helps is to keep hitting on normal. I noticed in other games that when the Head Coach handles the tactics I had a high percentage of dislocated shoulders, which I blame on him always having hitting on hard. Also, each morning I look at my players’ condition. If any of them are under 80% I put them on resting. Players with 80% to 89% are put on my special training schedule called “Light Day.â€

Amazing deals! I've never been able to get Ovechkin away from the Caps. I thought I was close once or twice but I was never able to pull it off. Good job!
I'm really impressed that you got Phaneuf so cheaply too! I've offered all sorts of deals to the Flames and rarely get him anymore (at least since 2.1.3). You should have a VERY successful season!

I am soooo with you on this one! I can't tell you how many times I've looked at Hurricanes news items and scratched my head trying to remember making that deal.Minstrel wrote:Every time I start a new Challenge, and it's usually in a 'battle' for coaches at the beginning of the game, I see a news item that says (in this case) "Coach X signs with Canadiens." I think Ovechkin was their #3 Left Wing behind Friesen and Semin. He was rated at 4 stars at the time, and I threw all I could at them and crossed my fingers!
The Flames asked me for Hainsey or Komisarek (I can't remember which) and I threw in the other and asked for Phaneuf in return.
I'm pretty happy with those trades, but now I need a goaltender to replace Theodore because he's rubbish.

Great start for my team, we were sitting in 4th place untill our 20th game, which was vs the Sens.
We took the game handidly 5-1 cliaming first place in the conference. Jagr had a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyy slow start, but really turned it on in the last two games getting 7 points! Theodore has played beautifully! I can imagine tradeing him for anything. My bottom lines have been playing well aswell, playing the hard hitting defensive style I want them too. Souray is having a great season, as it most of the rest of my D, I'm considering moving Boullion and brining up someone form Rocherster though.
Roster:
Cole - Koivu - Jagr
Williams - Riberio (Whats everyone got against him?) - Ryder
Isbister - Fisher - Laraque
Daganias (Wilm) - Wilm (Boyes) - Ortmyer
Inj: Boyes.
Souray - Dandeault
Markov - Komisarek
Bouillion - Warrener
Theodore - Other (Doesn't matter cause Theodore is playing all season.

Wow... Games 21-40 started out wonderfully and than fell into a hole with very wet sides that you can't climb out of no matter what you do.
Straight after the Jagr trade my team was on fire, even going as far as 4th in the conference. At about the 28 game mark we just fell apart.
I tried moving Jagr up to the first line in place of Kovalev which isn't doing much. I tried putting Perezhogan up on the second line to see if he could give them a spark, but still nothing. I'm just anxiously awaiting the return of Ryder who is day to day after a 3 month knee injury.
When he is back I'm going to rotate three scoring lines with a fourth line of left overs. The three Right Wings: Jagr, Kovalev, and Ryder, will most likely be switching lines to keep everything flowing smoothly.
I can't wait.. but day to day is so far away
Let's see if I can get my team (and myself) some
My board officially hates me. They feel my performance is very poor despite my great financial situation.
At least I haven't been fired yet
