Rouyn-Noranda Huskies

Post by Wild94 »

I will be starting a game with the Rouyn-Noranda of the QMJHL and I will be trying to work my way to an NHL Job. I will be using the lidas 3.1 rosters for this save.

I have set the following guidelines:

Max 2 trades per season
1 trade at the Draft
1 Overager only
2 imports
No head coach
1 scout
1 Assistant coach
1 free agent signing
Maximum of 2 1st round draft picks
I could get a 3rd 1st but I must forfeit 10 picks
Maximum of 2 19yr players on the team
Human Manager sackings are enabled

After 5 years coaching Midget AAA hockey in Winnipeg I finally decided it was time to go back home. A friend of mine recently bought the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, the Huskies are your typical small market major junior team that goes through the cycles, the problem with the Huskies though is that poor management has run them into the ground and they are now facing a massive rebuild. My friend is former Huskie Maxime Talbot, he loves the town of Rouyn-Noranda and would love to see the huskies become a premier major junior team. He decided to overhaul the team's staff and when it came to the position of head coach and GM he offered me the job. I had intended to go coach the LSL Lions but Max was insistent on me taking the job and frankly this is one I could not pass up, so I took it.

My name is Tom Paul.

As I left for the town of Rouyn-Noranda I knew that this was not going to be an easy task, I was going to one of the least desirable junior hockey destinations as there is little to do in Rouyn-Noranda and convincing kids to come play here will not be easy but I'm ready for that challenge and prepared to build a winner here and a perennial contender. Its a long drive from Winnipeg to Rouyn-Noranda but I enjoyed it. I arrived at 2am and I have a press conference scheduled at 11am.

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are pleased to announce that they have named Tom Paul as their new Head Coach and GM, Tom has coached Midget AAA in Winnipeg the last 5 years and has led to to 5 straight telus cup appearances and has won the medals in all of them including 3 straight golds.

I would like to say that I'm happy to be coming here, its a beautiful city and I'm looking forward to building a winner here, I like my teams to be fast, with a highly skilled top 6, and a gritty and physical bottom 6 with a strong defence and a great goaltender. I know that we have some talented young players here and I'm looking forward to working with them. I won't say who our starter will be nor will I be answering any questions today.

I would like to announce the following moves:

Rouyn-Noranda trades to Shawinigan:
Anthony Brockman
Anthony Courcelles
Antoine Quevillon
Gabriel O'Connor

Shawinigan trades to Rouyn-Noranda:
The rights to Michael Matheson

Rouyn-Noranda trades to Victoriaville:
Jessyko Bernard
Antoine Lapperiere

Victoriaville trades to Rouyn-Noranda:
The Rights to Jean Francois Diorio

I'm extremely pleased to have acquired the rights to Michael Matheson, he's the best defenceman in AAA and were looking forward to signing him. We know that right now he has no intention of reporting here and would like to go the NCAA route but were confident that once he sees what were doing here he will report. Its a steep price for someone who is 50-50 on playing in the Q and obviously we will miss Anthony Courcelles and Gabriel but were a rebuilding team and this was a necessary move.

I think that JF can be a good player here and he fits what were looking for, losing Antoine's leadership skills will hurt us but this was a move we felt we needed to make. I would also like to announce that we have released Radovan Pulis and Andrew Roski.

Training camp starts next week and we expect to have several more signings to announce.

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are predicted to have a long and difficult season according to the hockey news, The Cape Breton screaming eagles are predicted to be joining them at the bottom. Alexandre Comptois is supposed to be the team MVP while Janos Hari is expected to be the key new face on the Huskies.

I would like to announce that we have come to terms with Michael Matheson,JF Diorio,Nigel Gordon and George Heroidier. We belive that they will all make contributions to our team and they are part of our core moving foward. Were thrilled that Michael and JF have decided to pursue their careers here and we feel that this is a decision they will not regret.

Also we have signed Jarret weber he will be my assistant on the bench, also Paul Meier and Doug Stacey will be our trainers.

September 8th 2007

We are pleased to announce that we have signed Travis Duchense, Benjamin Fecteau and Dullio Mac Allister. Also we have hired Ryan Barber as a scout.

We have a decent pre-season going 2-1-3 in 7 games, so far none of our possible OA's has returned, we belive that Jordan Caron may be returned.

Our home opener is September 16th against Chicoutimi. OUr roster and lines will be annouced shortly.

Here are your 2006-2007 Rouyn-Noranda Huskies:

Goalies:
Robin Gusse
Travis Duchense

Defenceman:
Alexis Bernier
Mathieu Leduc
Michael Matheson
Bem Fecteau
Hugo Murray
Mathieu Brisebois

Forwards:
Janos Hari
Garret Holmes
Massimo Matteau
Alexandre Comtois
George Heroidier
Jason Kelly
Jeremi Janneteau
Maxime St-Cyr
Steven Mercier
Maixme Kazakov
Dullio Macallister
Pierre-Karl Marion

The team lives and dies with Robin Gusse, He's one of the best goalies in the Q and he will need to be at the top of his game night in and night out if the Huskies are to have a chance at winning. He will have some rough nights as he is expected to see the most shots in the league and it will be interesting to see how he reacts to the ups and down's his team will go through. Travis Duchense will see his fair playing time as Gusse will need rests.

There's few bright spots on the Huskies backend, Michael Matheson a 16 year old is the team's top blueliner and top prospect, he will no doubt be given plenty of ice time and will be heavily relied upon, it will be very interesting to see how he handles all the responsiblity that comes with being a #1 defenceman, there will be plenty of nights where he's overwhelmed and its nights like those that will really define him.

Janos Hari and Maxim Kazakov will be depended on to light the lamp for the Huskies, the team will struggle to score goals and to create chances, there's little to no supporting cast for Hari and Kazakov, Maxime St-Cyr could work his way up onto the 1st line but that's alot to ask of a 16-year old.

Here are the Huskies Lines:
Line 1 Hari-Comtois-Kazakov
LIne 2 Matteau-Jenneteau-Marion
Line 3 Holmes-St.Cyr-Kelly
Line 4 Heroidier-Mercier-Macallister

Defence Pairings
1st Pair: Matheson-Brisebois
2nd Pair: Leduc-Murray
3rd Pair: Bernier Fecteau

Goalies:
Gusse
Ducehnse

10 games into the 2006-2007 season the Huskies sit at 5-5-0 good for 10pts and 5th in the west, they have scored 35 goals while conceding 40. Alexandre Comtois has carried the team offensively, he has a team leading 5 goals, 10 assists and 15 points. Maksim Kazakov and Janos Hari have 10 and 6 pts respectively.

Nathan Mackinnon, Jonathan Drouin and Anthony Duclair are the top 3 ranked players for this year's Q draft.

We had a quick chat with Janos Hari.

J.H: Well yea I say we do, he good coach and myself and Maksim believe in him style.

THN: The town of Noranda is a French town do you plan on learning French ?

J.H: Yes I will, but I must imporve on english 1st.

THN: Thanks for your time Janos !

J.H: Thanks very much, Any time !

With the Huskies in the midst of a 16 game losing streak tempers are starting to boil over and people are getting frustrated but none more then Todd Paul. Todd has been fined a whopping 75 000 dollars by the league this month alone for constantly criticizing the refs. The Huskies which sit at 7-22-1 are the most penalized team in the league, Paul's frustration is with the consistency of the ref's calls.

Meanwhile goal tending for the Huskies has been Abysmal, Robin Gusse has been AWOL for the past 20 games, which has left Jeff Noonan and Travis Duchense to tend the crease. Despite their efforts they boast Sv% of 85% and 84% to go with G.A.A's of 4.89 and 5.69.

On defense Michael Matheson has been the lone bright spot and the leader ever since Mathieu Leduc and Hugo Murray were released due to their poor behavior. Those moves made an already shallow defense even thinner.

Upfront the loss of Jeremi Janneteau to the CIS ranks has not been huge but his leadership skills are missed.
