Re: NHL Team/Franchise Discussion Thread
In honor of the best pro hockey team name in history (Macon Whoopee), I vote that they be named the Winnipeg Whoopee.
The Macon Whoopee (incidentally, another unsuccessful pro hockey team in Georgia named after a bird) was named after the whooping crane that could be found in the area. The best part about the team was that their symbol was a crane with a bee on its tail. Get it? Birds and the bees? Whoopee?
Classic.

Except Cheechoo is Inuit not Cree. Kind of like me saying you are a Swede cause all Scandanavians are the same.
Edit:
Argh...I READ TOOTOO...not CHEECHOO. Sorry.
But Cheechoo is Cree....save he is Ontario Cree. From Moose Factory ONTARIO. Not Manitoba.
Phew, saved myself... a little...ok maybe just a tiny bit.

Re: NHL Team/Franchise Discussion Thread
Wait, someone fill me in... is Phoenix officially gone? Are we finally gonna get another team in Canada, or are we just speculating?
I know I sound lost, but I stopped caring about 2010-11 somewhere around a minute into Flyers-Bruins Game 2, so I'm pretty out of the loop
.
Edit: Ah, not Phoenix, but Atlanta. Oh well, I'll certainly take that

Nickname and head coach to be named sometime this weekend. I kinda wished they had the name and jersey for the draft, but it sound like they won't. Seems kind of silly to me.

Re: NHL Team/Franchise Discussion Thread
I'm not sure, they may have retained the scouts. It will be Winnipeg's staff, so whether it's Kevin Cheveldayoff, or he has some scouts in mind, or Atlanta's scouts that have been retained, not sure.

Re: NHL Team/Franchise Discussion Thread
Have retained Atlanta scouts..so have their intel. Get all the info even of Dudley and all the people they let go as well. Plus...it is not like Cheveldayoff was not involved and not knowing what was going on out there. He, Heisinger and staff from the True North group "knew" they would have a team...so they have been out looking and had people out looking for them I am sure. But the work product of the Thrashers goes to Winterpeg, and the unnamed team has all the info they need to make selections. They will likely have the Atlanta scouts around for advice as well.
Stinson--Wait what? You did not know. Wow dude...come out from under that minecraft rock.

True North to make a large announcement friday @ 11am. (I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its team name)
Coyotes home opener against Wpg... Makes me think even more the team name will be the Jets. Perfect rivalry setup right there. The NHL would love that. It may actually get people in the stadium for Phoenix.
I keep hearing rumours that Selanne would like to end his career in Wpg. Has anyone heard this? Whats the truth metre saying on it?

Re: NHL Team/Franchise Discussion Thread
Yeah, I heard of it. He's got a wife and like, 3 or 4 children, so I'm not certain moving for a season is really feasible. His agent Don Baizley said in an interview with ESPN.com that if Teemu was to return next season, it'd be in Anaheim. I for one would like to see him back in Winnipeg. But well... Hey, do the Ducks play in Winnipeg this season? I bet he'll get a standing ovation if they do.

Re: NHL Team/Franchise Discussion Thread
I heard this one too....the first day we knew Winnipeg will have a team back, because Selanne will be UFA. So I'm don't think this is serious, the media just talk about that more like a dream than reality.

TSN is reporting that Winnepeg will reveal it's name before their first pick tonight, but no word on logo or jersey.

Winnipeg team will hold off on announcing jersey and stuff I bet. Unless the NHL has pressured them into doing it. They will want their own separate press conference, in Winnipeg. It will be away from the story of Nugent-Hopkins or whoever goes to Edmonton as well as the Philadelphia Fire Sale.

Re: NHL Team/Franchise Discussion Thread
Seems like they did it: http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/321751.html! Jets they will be! This article in French states that various sources confirmed the Canadian Press that "Jets" has been retained as the team name and that it will probably be officially announced tonight. They should haver a new logo and jersey, but that isn't expected for tonight.Loosie wrote:TSN is reporting that Winnepeg will reveal it's name before their first pick tonight, but no word on logo or jersey.

Oh yeah! I hope this is true! I'm glad they did this, Jets is and will always be the perfect name.
