Bertuzzi blindsided him and punched him in the back of the head then drove him face first into the ice, after which a whole mob of people tackled Bertuzzi while he was on top of him. He ended up with a few broken vertebrae and a concussion and such, now he's trying as hard as he can to sue Bertuzzi instead of working to play hockey again :dunno:

It's all just messed up anyway, I dunno why they don't drop it.

sounds quite exciting (and painful!). They say its effected bertuzzi ever since. I think you might be right about the lawsuit thing, though it does sound as though Bertuzzi got carried away - but i thought that was the point of hockey?

Well, Moore injured Naslund a few games before and the game was out of hand anyway.

7-2 Colorado at the time of the incident (I think)

Yeah, if you Google search for this it was a giant world-wide discussion where everyone who didn't know jack used it to further stereotype hockey as barbaric :yadda:

At this point Moore's lawyers file a new case approximately weekly and have done so at any moment they think might get them some publicity; it has become close to equally sleezy on their side as people accused Bertuzzi of being at the time of the event.

Yes, it was premeditated. Yes, Bertuzzi planned to punish Moore. Yes, it was a suckerpunch from behind after the guy had already fought someone earlier and "paid his debt". It was also in the heat of the moment and the end result was certainly not intended. He didn't I'm sure attack him with the thought "Hey... if I sucker punch this guy right now maybe I can paralize him... that would be great!"

The end result was tragic, yes but the guy was suspended for a giant amount of time, has been vilanized in every media publication accross the world, has been dragged into court for assualt and possible prison time (which he was cleared of with probation and community service), has to have special clearance to travel to all games in the USA, gets booed every time he touches the puck, was called a "Traitor To the Game and Our Country" when consideration of adding him to the Canadian Olympic team came up, and this year every fan and member of the Cancucks organization except Coach Crawford (who was fired...) was quick to point his direction directly or inderectly and say "He's the problem". And at this point? People and yes, especially Moore's sleazy cadre of lawyers need to just let it go because the lot of them have proven to be much more viscious and "cheap" than Bertuzzi's original action was.
TSN.ca wrote:Bertuzzi was charged with assault and pleaded guilty in a Vancouver court, where he was sentenced to probation and community service. Bertuzzi also served a 17-month suspension by the NHL, missing 13 regular-season games and the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2004 and giving up about $502,000 US in salary.

Moore is seeking $15 million in lost wages, $1 million in aggravated damages and another $2 million in punitive damages from Bertuzzi in a lawsuit filed in Ontario in February while the Canucks star was playing for Canada at the Olympic Games. The suit names Orca Bay, the parent company of the Canucks, along with the NHL team. Moore's parents are also claiming $1.5 million in damages for ''the nervous shock and mental distress'' caused by the attack.
