I really doubt something like this could happen, they will need to do some more space to sign him. Plus, I hope Tampa will never let Stamkos go. They are getting better each year but without Stamkos, they are screwed.

Philly made space with Richards and Carter moving out. that was a ton of cash out the door. Versteeg, and whoever else can go as well. It is VERY doable for them. I hope it does not happen, but it easily could. The Flyers have always done things differently than the other clubs. Especially when it comes to RFA situations.

I remember that deal for Kesler back in the days I was at school. :-D I think they offered him a 1.5 millions deal per year or something like and he had just played two season. I didn't knew who Kesler was and I was like what the hell 1.5 millions for a useless player who didn't do anything good this year? :-p :**

According to capgeek, the Flyers are the closest team to the cap right now and although I agree that they could clear up the cap, it would be a tough proposition. Let's have a little fun, though, and assume they will need to have 10mil to sign Stamkos.

Right now they have 6.7mil in cap space with Voracek, Carcillo and Simmonds RFAs and Zherdev, Leino, O'Donnell, Boucher and Boynton as UFAs. Let's assume they sign Voracek and Simmonds for a combined 3M (which could be considered a steal, but this is make-believe after all) and let the rest walk. Now they are down to 3.7M in space.

This means they need to clear 6.3M in cap through trades, buyouts or designating to the minors. As Batdad said, Versteeg is the most obvious piece to be wiped of the table (3.1M) and Leighton will likely be sent down to the Phantoms at the start of the season (1.5M...what a brutal contract). This still leaves them with at most, 8.3M in cap.

I don't see how they could shed any more cap than that. Their top 6 D (Pronger, Timmonen, Carle, Meszaros, Coburn, Bartulis) are locked up and they will only have 11 forwards signed; none of which are expendable (except laperierre, who can't be bought out anyhow because of his 35+ clause, plus he's a fan favorite). Even still, one of those forwards is Brayden Schenn, who still has junior eligibility left.

I heard they they really want to sign Leino too, so that could be another salary. I don't know if they want to let go Carcillo too. :-k Zherdev, Boucher, Boynton and probably O'donnell are sure to be UFA.

Gilmour, Belfour, Nieuwendyk and Mark Howe to be inducted to the hall of fame this year, no word on builders or women yet though, if any.

They are still ignoring Pat Burns. :rant: :rant:

Laich sign a 6 year deal with WSH and Pitkanen got a 3 year deal. Laich will be paid 4.5 millions! I think this is too much for him.

Reports are Ehrhoff will head to free agency. After some of the re-signing weve seen hell get at least 5-5.5 per season.

Will Bure ever make the hall... :-k

Vcr traded the rights of Ehrhoff to the Islanders. They will give him a 5-5,5 for sure.

The Penguins offered one year contract to Jagr! Rumours are that other option for him is Detroit where they're finishing the offer, too. Looks like he's heading back to NHL. :nod:

Erhoff wont sign with Isles. Just a deal that Gillis made because Isles were the best chance to make the pick as high as possible.

*Philadelphia always finds a way to get their guy. Always. If they want Stamkos bad enough they will get it done.
*There is nothing...and I mean nothing in the UFA market. Brad Richards will sign with NYR 5 seconds in. Then the cupboard is bare.

This means..there may be a flurry of RFA offer sheets out there. I doubt alot of teams will do much with that. But I look forward to seeing the TSN's of the world trying to fill their day. Will be alot of RFA chatter.

There's just a bunch of decent veterans. Defense: Jovanovski, Markov, Hamrlik, McCabe, Wallin, Salo, Hannan, Sopel, Kaberle... Goalies: Vokoun, Roloson, Giguere... Forwards: Gagne, Brunette, Cole, Connolly. So, as Batdad said, there's no big and young fishes in the sea... I think Stars are looking for Connolly, he would be the best replacer for Richards.

I heard that Rangers bought Drury out. How's Wade Redden? Will he be UFA in July? He would be good 2nd/3rd pair addition to some team..

Redden not an UFa for 2 more years. Noone interested. Dude sucked in the AHL last season and has serious problems. Rangers will just leave him in minors for the remainder of contract. No effect on their cap whatsoever. Drury buyout is the piece for Richards offer.

Markov is signed by the Habs since Monday or Sunday Jyp. Harmlik refused this morning the offer Mtl made to him.

David Jones sign a 1 year deal with the Avs worth 2.5 millions. Nashville gives their RFA offers sheet too late, now the league is investigating this.

League has already commented nothing wrong with Nashville RFAs. Players association has not responded. This DOES NOT affect Shea Weber as Nashville already to arb. Sergei Kostytsin, Nick Spaling, David Halischuk, and Cal O'Reilly are only affected IF anything is to come of this.

NHLPA has to file a grievance on behalf of the players for anything to come of this. They have until tomorrow to do so, and will take all of their time. Just like what was done in Chicago. NHL came out then and said all was fine, then the NHLPA grieved and won. So.....could have some issues for the above 4 players only. NOT WEBER

Montreal traded Wisniewski rights to Columbus. I was expecting something like this but IMO Mtl should've kept him instead of trying to sign Harmlik.

Pittsburgh traded the rights of Talbot to the Laff! Wow, I'm surprised to see the Pens getting rid of him.

Todd Marchant and Paul Kariya announced their retirements. Kariya, while announcing his retirement, criticized the NHL about the way they are handling the concussions case. I'm glad a player is saying something about that but it's not enough, the NHL will be like :** .

Roloson stays in Tampa, new 1-year-contract is worth 3 mills.

Buffalo acquire Ehrhoff's rights for 4th round pick. Buffalo bought Montador's rights to Chicago. Gerbe stays next 3 seasons in Buffalo.

Yannick Weber stays in Montreal with 2-year-deal.

According to Bob McKenzie that's is not exactly how it went down:
@TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
Max Talbot's rights have not been traded to TOR or anywhere else. Talbot's rep has had permission since Sunday to talk to other teams.
@TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
OK, my turn for a correction. PIT granted permission for Talbot's rep to talk only to TOR for 48 hours commencing Sunday.
@TSNBobMcKenzie Bob McKenzie
Talbot's 48 hour window to negotiate with TOR has expired, PIT still owns his rights. And that's where we're at right now. Got it? Good.
Seems like Talbot wasn't all that impressed with wath the Leafs had to offer. Or he wants try free agency and test the market. Either way, being the small-minded spiteful man that i've grown to be, i'd like to see him anywhere but Toronto. :-D He would be a great fit for Ottawa, but i highly doubt he'd be interested. He's going to get a good bunch of offers.

@JakeTheSnake, RDS website made a couples of corrections too about Talbot but I was too lazy to update my post. :-D Asham signed a 1 year contract with Pitt.

Smid got a 2 years deal at EDM.

Oshie got a 1 year deal at St-Louis.

Colorado will retire Forsberg's number on October 8th!!! :-) =D> :joy: :joy: A well deserved reward for an outstanding player who didn't got the chance to show for along time what he can do. :thdn: Colorado also signed a contract with O'Byrne for 2 years worth 3.8 millions.

After the announce they will not resign Steve Sullivan, Nashville as buy out the last year of Dumont's contract.

Finally, Edmonton put Souray on waivers to buy out his contract. Seems it's the new wave in the NHL.

J. Jokinen stays next 3 seasons in Carolina. New deal is worth 9 mills (3 per year).

Montador made 4-year-contract with Chicago. It's worth 11 mills.

Ehrhoff made giant deal with Buffalo. 40-million contract will keep him in Buffalo next 10 years !! :-o
