Sorry i'm new here so this may be a stupid question. I am looking for v3 of the unfake DB and the most upto date rosters. All I see on the downloads section is unfake+NCAA DB and Smenta rosters for Dec10th. Are there any other updates to those? I could have sworn i've seen Unfaking v3 somewhere.
If you are looking for a strict unfaking your best bet is the new unfake+NCAA db.
The latest databse project by the authors of the initial unfaking db does contain more recent transactions but it also contains many edited player attributes. So, everything they call version 2 or more is actually a customized database by the people who put together the original unfaking database. It takes the unfaking database and adds and undocumented but substantial amount of player attribute changes so players may play entirely differently than when playing with the default or v1 unfaking db.
They've chosen to not fully disclose the changes when asked, saying only they are "too many to list" or "We've changed everything". We hold files we share with the TBL Community, especially those that result in high bandwith draw from our server, to a high standard. Given the nature of databases, in that every change has a ripple effect upon the whole rest of the game universe, substantial changes can unbalance a game in the long term. As we cannot with certainty verify that these projects will provide a game experience that will be worth the time people invest in their EHM games we do not carry them on our server.
With other files we can test them on our machines and know the exact effect they will have upon your game; with a database you'd need to run at a minimum 10-15 games out past the twenty year mark to see the real result of the database changes upon the gaming experience. We don't have the time to test databases, and can't be assured they have been tested to this extent, or at all.
The reason we carry the v1+NCAA db is that we know with strict unfaking projects like v1 and the new NCAA db which was built upon it there are only display changes. They change text so it says one name instead or another. We can then feel confident in sharing it as we can rely upon the months of testing SI has done to ensure the stability and balance of the game.
