OOTP Developing a Hockey Sim: Franchise Hockey Manager 2013
This is way off in the future. But at least someone is attempting to create a new hockey sim game.
Much is unclear, such as if the game will have any league licenses at all or even a 2-D graphics engine. However OOTP Baseball is perhaps the most customizable and mod friendly sports sim on the market.
I have been a long time supporter of OOTP Developments so I wanted to share the new here since I think this crowd would be interested.
The game is still well over a year into the future. However, if I had to predict the final outcome of the game I would say that it will not quite be as polished or 'big budget' as EHM. However I expect the full customization to make up for some of the shortcomings. Even having a fully functional in game editor will be a improvement over EHM's clunky editor that you run the risk of corrupting your game.

There is mention of researchers.
If you think this project looks worthwhile and you would like to be in on the ground floor of a new game series and possibly have a say in how the final product turns out, then this is your chance.
I have absolutely no affiliation with OOTPD. I just thought I would pass along some good news for a gaming community that is in need of some good news.

Great news! A few years ago I emailed them and asked if a hockey game was possible. I even suggested the name Out On The Ice.

Re: New PC/Mac hockey sim coming from the makers of OOTP Bas
Thanks for the early interest in our hockey project. We at OOTP Developments are very excited to finally go public with this news and start assembling a Researcher team to work with us on the leagues/roster sets. I think it will be a great ride up until the release and hopefully we can produce a rock solid first version as starting point for a long running hockey manager franchise.
If you have any questions on the project feel free to ask!

I suppose this mean the game is one season only? What are the planned features?
- Single-player career mode for the 2012/2013 season.

Re: New PC/Mac hockey sim coming from the makers of OOTP Bas
My understanding is that it'll be single player only (i.e. no multiplayer). The career mode, as far as I understand it, means that you'll be able to sim through multiple seasons like in EHM. In other words, it'll be like EHM but without the multiplayer.Viking wrote:I suppose this mean the game is one season only? What are the planned features?

Re: OOTP Developing a Hockey Sim!
To clarify the season wording:
The game is, like EHM and OOTP, a career sim game, so you can sim as many seasons into the future as you want. The 2012/13 season wording means, as the game is scheduled for a late 2012 release, that the starting season (or year) is 2012. Sorry for the confusion.
For Online Play: one of the greatest features of OOTP (in my opinion) is the ability to run Online Leagues with it. I did one for 7 real years, starting with the 2001 MLB roster. The Hockey Project will definitively get the Online Feature down the road, hopefully for the initial release.

Really great news. The pedigree is good as OOTP is to baseball what EHM was to hockey and FM to soccer.

You do have some rather large shoes to fill as EHM is a heck of a game minus the edit-ability. I do have OOTP 10 but hockey is really my passion
so I'm really looking forward to OOTI or whatever is will be called

Now that was quite a surprise. And a good one at that! Indeed, their very high customization level is what made OOTP a hit to me. Mind you, I've never ever been a fan of baseball. I still wouldn't watch it on TV or follow it IRL, but I'm always pleased to play a game of OOTP once in a while. Very much looking forward to this! Please keep us informed!

Wow, after looking over OOTP Baseball, I absolutely cannot wait for this game to come out. If it's anything like that, I'll be buying it the minute it comes out!
Can't wait!

This is great news!
People have been raving about ootp games for years in these forums (haven't played them myself, being from finland i have no real connection with baseball), so i can't wait to see what those guys can do with hockey!

Re: OOTP Developing a Hockey Sim!
I won't lie, I'm pessimistic. OOTP is hardly the first group that does other sports that's attempted to tackle a hockey game, and honestly most of them never see the light of day and become vaporware.
If they can get a product out, I'm sure it'll be pretty good though, so let's keep our fingers crossed. I just hope they realize that hockey fans won't settle for an engine and product for another sport disguised as a hockey game (which SI never did really learn, and was part of the problem). It sounds like though that it may even have very little in common with OOTP (which wouldn't be a bad thing for the reason I just mentioned, even though I like OOTP) and will be independently devved, so... here's hoping.

I think their timing is very very tight. And to be honest, it's one of the things that warn me if they know what's ahead of them.Primis wrote:I won't lie, I'm pessimistic. But plans are made to be shifted later, don't they?

Good luck, OOTI !!!
