Struggling to get decent players

Post by sparkymark75 »

New to the game played through one season in the British EIHL and I finished last. Now it's recruiting time in the off-season and I can see me finishing bottom again. All the other teams in the league seem to be able to sign players with contracts for £25-£35k per year. However these players are not interested in signing for my team and I have to end up picking up cheaper players, around the £20k mark.

I have plenty of money to sign players, they just don't want to sign for me, how can I change this or improve my chances of signing players?

Try offering them a bigger role in your team. Try with a slightly upper signing bonus. If your team is a bad one (you finished last) it will be rather hard to get good players. Try and get some decent import and finish on a better position.

Thanks. I've tried all of this including making them a key player (this just seems to increase the salary I have to offer them) and offering them pretty much very bonus I can and giving them the get-out clauses, all to no avail.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was just the top teams in the league that were recruiting the better players but in my case, it's every team. Even the teams that finished in the two spots above me are getting far better players than me.

Sometimes it's really hard to get decent player when you finished last even with better salary, role etc....Plus, if your team got a bad reputation, it's getting things worst. To see improvement you can wait to a couple of years. If you are improving slowly but surely, the reputation of your team will change and you will be able one day to have very good players but for now, you will need to succeed with average player.

Ok, makes sense I suppose. Does the same apply to coaching staff? As a good/great coach with average players could be a decent combination.

Fortunately you can find good coaches that have low rep, just keep looking. This is also true for players, but even more so with staff in my experience.
