Just noticed you spelt "Nanaimo" wrong. (You wrote "Nanamio").

Maybe it's a misunderstanding. Let's leave it that and move on.nino33 wrote:Except your negative was about me as a person IMO, and IMO it was uncalled for/rude.......you don't know me, or why I did it the way I did (and what my intentions are) and yet you make such a negative commentManimal wrote:Yes, it was negative. With regards to names, if you ever want to change things at any point in the future then let me know. That tool I used to correct those holding/temporary names could be adapted to make further amendments to names. I just need to figure out the special characters (as you say, some can get scrambled). I'm not saying you should (not my call of course); I'm just saying I'm happy to help if in X months/years' time you decide to look into it.

That's what I wonder about...the "late" birthdays - IIRC when I was young there was a cut-off part way late in the year, but it doesn't seem there is anymore from the research I've doneManimal wrote:Yes, 1986 is the cut-off year when starting in 2006.(that also means anyone born in 1987 or later should be available for the drafts. IRL, there is a cut-off date on guys being drafted or not. Re: 1974dbV0.1 Testing Results/Feedback
From wiki.....
Eligible players (NHL Draft)
All players who will be 18 years old before September 15 and not older than 20 years old before December 31 are eligible for selection for that year's NHL Entry Draft. In addition, non-North American players over the age of 20 are eligible
And I didn't really know this...
When teams lose their rights to a first round draft choice, because that player was not signed to a contract and consequently re-entered the entry draft or became an unrestricted free agent, they are awarded a compensatory draft pick. This selection will be the same numerical choice as the first round draft pick who was not signed, but in the second round.

Re: 1974dbV0.1 Testing Results/Feedback
I just checked the 1975 draft. The youngest available draftees are born on Sep. 15th so it is in effect in game as well.
The compensatory picks can not be added by the editor. Last year, MTL or NYI got one. Fortunately the Devils had to forfeit a 2nd rounder(due to Kovy's contract) so I gave them that one. I do not think compensatory picks are awarded in the game

Just curious.....do you know if that adds picks to a given round IRL? Like Round 2 might have 31 picks instead of 30 due to a compensatory pick?

Yeha, I noticed as well in my a priori comments file, which I'll paste here probably tomorrow.Manimal wrote:Pat Conacher is another guy who is both player and staff.
Marc Bergevin is set as invalid in the editor but turns up as staff(I guess the invalids with non-player atts will do so). Either retire him or set him up as the player he was.
BTW, Was Bobby Orr that slow?
His skating is horrendous
Basically, all the players that came from the 79-80 mod (and were quite aged) are too slow. Orr was the more blatant case, but Mikita and Keon were still not that old. Another player that seems a bit off : Dennis Hull.
Nino, do you intend to modify the current version to reflect the changes suggested?
I mean, I intend to sim something like ten 74-75 seasons (and maybe 2 or 3 without salary cap, just to see the impact), and then take one of those salary-cap seasons and continue simming all the way until ... ehh... the 1 years old players are drafted.
But if a new test version comes out in, say, 4 days, the testing with the old version would be... kindof useless.
BTW, Jean Claude Tremblay was born in Sweden in the current version, but he's actually born in Bagotville, Québec, Canada. Bagotville became La Baie and La Baie became Saguenay, not too sure which city is in the database... but you don't go wrong with one of those three, although the order should be :
1 = Bagotville
2 = La Baie
3 = Saguenay

It's so hard to say how long, but I'm thinking about 3 weeks before test version 2 (I need to recreate quite a lot of young players to fix the signing of draft eligible players issue)...MXD wrote: if a new test version comes out in, say, 4 days

Re: 1974dbV0.1 Testing Results/Feedback
FYI Currently the youngest players in the database were born in 1969/1970 IRL and they play in the "Tyke Minor Hockey League" (guys like Rod Brind'Amour, John LeClair, Trevor Linden, Mike Modano, Jeremy Roenick, and Joe Sakic)MXD wrote: I mean, I intend to sim something like ten 74-75 seasons (and maybe 2 or 3 without salary cap, just to see the impact), and then take one of those salary-cap seasons and continue simming all the way until ... ehh... the 1 years old players are drafted.
Currently..... (it's a work in progress remember)
There are 767 "historical players" contracted to an NHL club (plus a few more whose Job is Player/Coach)
There are 355 "historical Staff" contracted to an NHL club (plus another 20 or so Free Agents)
There are 703 YOUNG "historical players" in the database...
Age 16-20 Major Junior - 134
Age 14-17 PreJunior Minor Hockey League - 184
Age 13-14 Bantam Minor Hockey League - 153
Age 11-12 PeeWee Minor Hockey League - 116
Age 9-10 Atom Minor Hockey League - 36
Age 5-8 Novice Minor Hockey League - 48
Age 3-5 Tyke Minor Hockey League - 32
Plus a couple dozen Free Agents/College Players....and another 100 or so historical Europeans/Russians
The "PreJunior" League is a temporary creation...I placed 14-17 year olds in the PreJunior League who weren't yet on a CHL team in 1974, as well as players who ended up in College but were to young in 1974 to be in College, etc
Eventually I'll place all the players in the PreJunior League "properly" as well as the Bantam League players too (and edit the Team Names/Colours/etc of the Minor Hockey Leagues in general)
AND obviously there's a lot more players to add too (some already prepared in spreadsheets just waiting to be added!)
Back to editing! Given the work I lost last July/September, and now with the signing of underagers issue.....this is now the 4th time I've created/placed a lot of these guys!!!
Regards

So expect me to sim quite a few seasons with the current version.

Except for changes to team names, and the national spelling/language specifics to names (both to occur at a much later date)...I've made all the changes suggested so far in this thread! Fixed the H. Richard/J. Bucyk waiver issue, fixed Orr's poor skating, corrected Birth City for a number of players, etcMXD wrote:MXD wrote:

Re: 1974dbV0.1 Testing Results/Feedback
That depends.....a player here and there who'd actually be missed by most, absolutely!MXD wrote:Awesome! Are you looking to add "new" players that could be missing?
Beyond that, not really at this point BECAUSE (after recreating hundreds of players to fix the signing of draft eligible players issue)....I then have notebooks and spreadsheets with lists of the hundreds more to add to the AHL, and hundreds more to add (based on Birth Year) to the Minor Hockey Leagues, and WHL/OHL Guides for the Additional Major Junior players, and books for the additional European/Russian players.......I've done pretty much all of the basic prep work, but the tediousness of inputting data into EHM just takes a long time to do!!!
So for any suggested players I kinda know now my response is most likely a repeatitive "I know, I know, he's on my list!"

Re: 1974dbV0.1 Testing Results/Feedback
Hi!
I'm having some fun with a full checkup before starting to sim a season. I've noticed quite a few things, but this one actually stood out :
I'm a bit confused about D-Men Bob Murray, skating for the Atlanta Flames
The vitals of this Bob Murray : http://www.hockey-reference.com/players ... abo02.html
The birthplace of this Bob Murray : http://www.hockey-reference.com/players ... abo01.html
Probably, the attributes of this Bob Murray : http://www.hockey-reference.com/players ... abo02.html
But this is actually the Bob Murray that played with the Atlanta Flames on that season : http://www.hockey-reference.com/players ... abo01.html
The other Bob Murray (Hawks) http://www.hockey-reference.com/players ... abo02.html wouldn't start his career until the following season (with the Hawks) and is apparently missing from the DB. Bob Murray (Hawks) was picked 52nd overall (3 round) by the Blackhawks in 1974.

Re: 1974dbV0.1 Testing Results/Feedback
I agree that Bob Murray of the Hawks is missing from the database, but the Atlanta Flames Bob Murray has the correct DOB, Birth Town, Team and Position.....the individual Attributes have never been reviewed (that's why Orr's skating was so off!).....IMO both Bob Murray's can wait for a complete review
With so much on my plate right now (plus real life!), the editing of player Attributes will have to wait until I can do most/all players at once, and I can't see having the time to look at it myself for many weeks.....there are three users who have a spreadsheet of all the 1974 db NHL players and their Attributes.....if any/all provide me with feedback via these spreadsheets, I will tackle the issue much sooner rather than later

Fine!
I just wanted to point out the confusion regarding the two Bob Murrays!
So, in other words, you'd prefer me to send the "ratings" comments separately?

Yes please! All I can see ahead for me for the next while is the recreation of players (signing of draftees issue), I can't handle thinking of Attribute adjustments or adding more players at this time!.......MXD wrote:So, in other words, you'd prefer me to send the "ratings" comments separately?
I will say I've been working on the since the summer of 2010, pretty much every day, and so in my mind I KNOW I will get to such things eventually.
I have every intention of adding hundreds more players (check out "the list" at the start of this thread and it'll show what's currently considered more important).
AND I have every intention of getting to reviewing player Attributes (though things will certainly progress much faster if other users can help)
Regards

P.S. To all those who are taking the time to test the database and post feedback/observations, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
