Goon Interview

Post by scott94 »

Hi Guys,

Its been a while since i posted on here. I hope everyone is well.
I'm currently researching questions for an upcoming interview with Doug Smith (The guy who the film 'Goon' is based on) i was just wondering if anyone has any questions that they would like to ask him?

I'm writing the interview for ProHockeyNews, whom im a writer for covering the Sheffield Steelers, and also for Gongshow Gear hockey, based in North America.

Any questions would be welcomed.
Kind regards,

Scott

So did Doug ever attack a player out of spite/malice? Or did he only fight willing participants?
Who does he think the toughest guy in the NHL past or present is?
If he sees another enforcer at a bar do they drink together or hate each other?

I would really like to know how a goon prepare himself for a game. Mentally mostly because you know, his job his to fight and protect others but like everyone, one day you don't want to work but you still need to do it. How can he managed that? It's not like working 6-8 hours and go home, he receive punches and gets hit in the face.

Ehhh..........

I don't want to sound like an ass, but that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Smith ... _hockey%29 Doug Smith has a statline roughly comparable to Mike Komisarek as far as Games/PIM's are concerned. And was a 2nd pick overall...

Are you sure it's not THAT Doug Smith?

He played the part well. He's not supposed to be a bright guy. He was very likable though. Jay Bucharel plays his best friend and he is hilarious! Some of the guys on the team are pretty funny too. Liev Schreiber played the old veteran goon well too. Really, I've got nothing but good things to say about the movie.

Well it's no masterpiece in that regard, or actually, in any regard, but still a pretty entertaining movie. Loved the characters based on the Kostitsyn-brothers :-p
I'd give it a solid 6,5 out of 10, but it's certainly nothing for the PC or anti-fighting crowd.
I hear Don Cherry's new movie is coming out next week ? Might have misunderstood something, but watching a clip of his "Burke doesn't sign enough good Ontario-kids" rant from Coach's Corner today I think they showed a trailer of it where he meets MacLean.

I will never watch a movie about Don Cherry that's for sure. What a disgrace of bad fashion this movie must be. :-D
