Did a quick look through the OHL and it appears that there are well over 25 players that should be in the 2nd year draft that are available to sign... You might already know this?

Actually my starting point is the actual IRL teams/affiliations that existed at the start of 1974-75.....while I'm certainly open to tweeking things in the future, at this point I think if I can introduce over 40 additional historical minor pro teams complete with rosters full of actual historical players, I'm a happy camper!CeeBee wrote:I presume you are keeping 3 shared AHL team affiliations so every NHL team has an AHL team?
CeeBee wrote:Also in my 2nd season the Penguins have offered 17 year old Ryan Walter a contract. Not sure if he was on the fix-it list as he would have been 16 in the first season.
I have every historical player in excel spreadsheets, and I went through every player who was under 20 (down to the 3-4 year olds), so I think this issue is fixed...though I do have a few Europeans/Russians to recreate stillCeeBee wrote:Did a quick look through the OHL and it appears that there are well over 25 players that should be in the 2nd year draft that are available to sign
Since test release 0.1 XenHL provided me with the colour schemes for the NHL, AHL and Major Junior teams and I updated them accordingly.......now with some additional AHL changes, and the CHL changes, there'll be some more colour schemes that need updating...CeeBee wrote:Some of the Western Hockey league teams have black lettering on a black background.

Re: 1974db Testing Results/Feedback
Noticed an interesting thing with goaltender histories/save pct. It seems that goalies that have a 0.00 save percentage entered for earlier seasons have it affect their career save %. (makes sense)
e.g.
John Garrett GP W L T GA GAA SV%
2005-06 40 21 18 0 137 3.59 0.000
2006-07 68 29 30 7 196 3.01 0.896
2007-08 16 8 8 0 51 3.52 0.872
Career total 124 58 56 7 384 3.26 0.841
Not sure if the updating history project for Manimal's roster entered any 0 save% as modern records should have it more available?

I've added "Input goalie SV% in Player History" to the list of things to do.....

Re: 1974db Testing Results/Feedback
It really kills the older goalies stats. Gilles Meloche had a career 66% and Tony Esposito was real bad too. I just chose to highlight John Garrett cause it was less seasons to type into the post
I imagine if I had looked during the first year it would even have been worse but I never noticed it till this morning.

Re: 1974db Testing Results/Feedback
Unfortunately there isn't a SV% field per se in the player histories. Instead you have to enter the number of goals conceded and the number of saves made (and EHM calculates the SV% in game).nino33 wrote:Nice catch CeeBee! Re: 1974db Testing Results/Feedback
I'll likely be entering "made up numbers based on facts" to come up with a reasonable SV% for previous seasons (it's really only to protect career stats from being way off).......IRL the WHA goalies have this stat actually available, NHL goalies do not (FYI previously I even tryed to review game summaries from the hockey news to get an idea of where NHL goalies were at, but they don't note who played how long and how many shots they stopped when more than one goalie plays for a team in a game).......I'll likely base SV% (GA/Saves) somewhat on the results of test seasons; I suspect it'll be awhile before I get to this task....archibalduk wrote:Unfortunately there isn't a SV% field per se in the player histories. Working 8-10 hours per day on the db (Spring Break)...this is the third day in a row I've been working on AHL Rosters
Currently I have 13 teams "in the spreadsheet" (310 additional historical players so far!)nino33 wrote:Historical AHL player/staff creation is what I'm working on currently.....working on players right now, just completing the 5th of 27th teams (to avoid potential player duplication and assist in assigning CA/PA and OFF/DEF ratings I'm going to complete all 27 teams in excel first, and then I'll actually create/input the players in EHM)

I was just looking at my "big chunk of cardboard" with the NHL Divisions.......the problem with a Cleveland-Houston switch is Houston comes from the Southeast Division and there's no team in the Eastern Conference that really fits into a "Southeast" Division (and Cleveland doesn't either)CeeBee wrote:Whilst on the subject of divisions, for the NHL I'd move the Crusader's to the East and the Aero's to the west.
I myself don't like the fact that so many classic teams are in the Eastern Conference and therefore can never meet in a Cup Final....
16 teams in the spreadsheet now, working on the 17th...nino33 wrote:Currently I have 13 teams "in the spreadsheet" (310 additional historical players so far!)

Do you think this will ever work with the custom start date patch?

That would be so cool! Archi tried but alas it wouldn't work (no NHL games were scheduled after December 31st...the NHL basically just ceased operations!)The Leaf wrote:Do you think this will ever work with the custom start date patch?
I myself have never downloaded/used the CSD Patch, and I have no intention myself of ever trying to get it to work with the 1974 db (it's beyond me!)

Unless you want the game to start in 2074, there's no point in using the CSD Patch.

I missed any news on him, I know you have checked underage FAs but Gretzky is a FA in mine if no one has reported. Unless that's the plan since he joined from the WHA
And I thought Bourque was in the DB, he's nowhere to be found.

Gretzky was one of the many who have been recreated from scratch...Moses Doughty wrote:I missed any news on him, I know you have checked underage FAs but Gretzky is a FA in mine if no one has reported.
Ray Bourque should have started off on the team "PreJunior Ones" as a 13 year old (with a 65 CA and a 192 PA).....he should be aroundMoses Doughty wrote:I thought Bourque was in the DB, he's nowhere to be found.

Now I remember!.....I had a bunch of historical players on Calgary bantam teams at one point...probably about a year ago. I moved them all into my created leagues and somehow left Bourque behind, and as a result his CA was never reviewed like everyone else, so in test version 0.1 he is a 14 year old with a 175 CA! It looks like in your game the computer retired/regened him (in a test MXD did, in bantam Bourque with his 175 CA had 47 goals/56 assists in 26 games, 266 shots, a 9.96 Average Rating and 470 Takeaways!).....this has been fixed!Moses Doughty wrote:I think he retired, he doesn't show up in the scout or in the game itself

Re: 1974db Testing Results/Feedback
Hello!
I went with XenHL's take on the CHL Divisions, and now that I'm looking closer I've realized forgot to include one available real life pro team from 1974...the Syracuse Eagles of the NAHL. As the Eagles are an IRL 1974 pro team (Senators/Mariners affiliation), and I have a 1975-76 NAHL Guide that I can use for information, I want to use them.
I loved the name Portland Buckaroos, and will now use it in the ECHL (eventually!) as Syracuse took Portland's spot.
I also want to keep Capre Breton/Sherbrooke as these will be the only unshared affiliations for the Oilers/Jets.
So I now have Syracuse in the "Northwest Division" and Syracuse isn't very Northwest!
Any suggestions on a shuffle?
Northwest
Dayton
Des Moines
Muskegon
Syracuse Blazers
Northeast
Cape Breton
Sherbrooke
Columbus
Toledo
Southwest
Flint
Kalamazoo
Lansing
Port Huron
Saginaw
Southeast
Charlotte
Winston-Salem
Hampton
Philadelphia

Kalamazoo I'd guess, since they are the most westerly team left.

P.S. I'm using the site hockeydb.com alot as I look to populate the AHL and CHL with historical players, and I thought I'd mention that sometimes with fringe/obscure players when even the hockeydb site has "missing information" (no DOB and/or Birthplace and/or Position)...if they've been drafted by an NHL team I've found the site hockeydraftcentral.com to be helpful....and if they've not been drafted I've sometimes found more information on the site dropyourgloves.com (I'll likely look at using the data from the dropyourgloves site when editing the Aggression/Fighting Attributes)

Re: 1974db Testing Results/Feedback
Well, I’m in the final hours of my week off….LOTS was accomplished on the 1974 db this week.
I stumbled into working on minor pro players and got on a roll! Ten days ago I knew eventually I was going to add historical players/staff to the minor pro leagues, I thought maybe in the summer...I never imagined it would be so soon!…..test version 0.2 will have both the 27 team AHL and the 17 team CHL fully populated with historical players/staff!
100% of the professional IRL hockey players in North America in 1974-75 will be present in the 1974 db
Currently I have the AHL completed and the CHL almost completed “in spreadsheet form” (see screenshots below) – next I’ll input the data into EHM
The first post in this thread contains the “lists of things” I continue to maintain/update…..the lists show what I’m currently working on and what I’m planning to work on
Best Wishes

EDIT - Just thought I'd note that I've added two things to my Staff spreadsheet...Arena Name and Arena Capacity

Yes (for now). IRL in 1974-75 there were actually two minor pro teams in Syracuse....the Syracuse Eagles in the AHL (their only year of existence) and the Syracuse Blazers of the NAHL.Manimal wrote:I just noticed you've got Syracuse in bothe the AHL and the CHL. Do you want it that way?
I say "for now" as right now I'm just looking to create/input all the real life teams/players/staff for the minor pros....once that's all done sometime in the future I'll look at potentially making some additional edits

FYI - I’m revising the estimated release date for test release version 0.2 to “sometime in May” – the adding of historical AHL/CHL players is incredibly tedious and time consuming…
FYI - Here's the current AHL/CHL team set-up in the 1974 db (NHL Affiliations in blue font) - except for Cape Breton/Sherbrooke the teams in the AHL/CHL are the real life minor pro teams from 1974-75; I'll be making some adjustments in the future once the players/staff are in place (I'll move one of the two Toronto/Boston single affiliations out of the AHL + move teams/reduce shared affiliations to ensure single affiliations wherever feasible).....the ECHL will also be reviewed/edited eventually
