Trying to find the Crosby regen. I'm 4 days from the 2035 Entry Draft.

Crosby (And Hall and a bunch of others) were inducted into the hall in 2031 (7/2/31).

By my calculations, that would put me 4 years past his retirement, yes? In which case, his regen should have populated? I can't find him for the life of me.

There are only a couple of C/RW players from Canada that are eligible for the entry draft and none of them share his Height, nor his flair or determination.

I searched ALL players for a player that is:

1) Canadian.
2) A Center.
3) Has 99 determination (as Crosby does in Manimal 4.0)

And I find 3 players, none of which match.

I searched ALL players for a player that is:

1) Canadian.
2) A center.
3) Has a flair of 95+ (Crosby has 96 in Manimal 4.0)

I get 10 players returned, only one is 5'11, but he doesn't share the C/RW attribute OR the 99 Determination, and has 99 Flair.

He is 20, which means he was drafted 2 years after Crosby retired, and does have some really nice skills ( 5 green technicals)... but none of this lines up with what we know.

Am I missing something?

Is he still in the database as a Staff? You could use the SavedGame Editor to see if he's still in the database.
I did some research on player development, and not all players who Retire regen (if he's regened he should NOT be in the player list when you look using the SavedGame Editor)

I've heard that even if he is a staff that doesn't change anything, he is supposed to have a regen. Is this true?

I don't know much about regens (I've never gone looking for one)....but I did research the careers of 125 players (3 seperate tests) http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 110&t=8146

I checked yearly for the players on my list using the SavedGame Editor, and what I did notice is some players "dissapear" from the database, while others are there year after year as Retired or Staff....I thought the ones who dissapeared were the regens (if they stayed in the database + regens were created wouldn't player/staff count in the database grow every year?.....I don't think it does)

This is an interesting point -- I can imagine that if every player ever was regen'd, then there would be a finite amount of players that would increase as players were "retired" into staff -- however, when staff retire, are they regen'd? If so, it could be cyclical: Player -> Regen or Staff AND Regen -> Staff Retires and goes away forever.

FYI In the PreGame Editor you can see the total number of Players/Staff in the database (including Retired and Invalid), but unfortunately the SavedGame Editor doesn't have this feature (I just tried to see the database size after year 15 of one of tests, to see if it had grown and if so by how much)

EDIT
Actually you can sorta see the Player/Staff total...when you load the saved game into the SavedGame Editor the total is shown growing in the bottom left corner as it loads...It occurs at supersonic speed, but I could see that it didn't reach 49000
I took a look through the visible ID numbers for a bit and the highest I saw was 48628.
In the database at start-up there were 44588 Players/Staff.......so the database, by year 15 of play, HAD GROWN by over 4000

Determination doesn't carry over when a player gets regened.

Is there anywhere in the game that tells you everyone that retired in a certain year?

Yes you have the Hall Of Famer that you can take a look at. You have all the players that are retired with the year. When you are at your "desk", just click the NHL where it shows you the ranking and the final link is the HOF.

Alas I was not helpful...I don't think there's anywhere you can get a list of players that retired in a given year.
In my testing I started with a list of players, and looked up each player individually in the SavedGame Editor......with Arch's new "Staff Updater" tool one could easily produce a list of all players before starting a new game, but the effort to determine who retired every year would have to involve looking up each player individually! So not very practical/feasible...

Just started playing EHM again, started a game with the CSD patch and Manimal 4.1b rosters ... and forgot to pay attention, but was there a whack of retirees at the start of the season like LIDAS db's? I see nobody in the hall of fame at all ... thought for a twist, I started a game with "use real names" unchecked, a fantasy draft, and started unemployed ... guess it could be due to all of that

Reason I ask, is my trading strategy has usually been to start stock piling draft choiced for Season 3+ for the regens, may have to change that if Manimal's DB doesn't produce as many early on.

There is a big number of guys retiring on the first day.

Alessandro and I are working on reducing the enormous amount of retiring players at start up so that the regens won't be as many. This will be in from the 5.0 version

Thanks for the quick reply ... do you know by chance if those players still retire if you've chosen to turn off the real names?

Not at home atm, but will test it either way once I am

No idea, sorry. I never use non-real names

Don't know the exact database I'm using. It's Lidas database going into the Taylor Hall draft. My Bridgeport Soundtigers are currently 16-0 and this guy is totally tearing up the league. Any idea who this guy might be?

I always tell people that the easiest way to find your regens is to start a new game with the same database with the fog of war set to off. Then you can look on day one at all of the old timers and search for your guy.

Try that and let us know what you find. (I know it's a little bit of work but there are so many of us playing all of the different databases that it's hard to say right off hand who you have)

This is mostly because the game at the startup creates some players to fill vacations in a number of teams/leagues

I'll give that a try but exactly would I be looking for? Are you speaking about comparable ratings/personal stats or something else?

May be some others too, but those are the general ideas.

Ah, sorry. Mostly agree with nino33, but in your case there will probably be one superstar-caliber guy that will stick out. Everything that he has listed but don't count on flair, determination, and bravery. (those can vary sometimes)

I loaded Lidas 3.1 (which I believe is the database you are using) and my guess is Cam Neely:

You really should try it yourself too. I think that once you try my way and find a regen you will feel confident in finding any regen. ;)
