25 Seasons of My Vancouver Canucks

Post by Shanedawg »

I've just completed my 25th season as GM of the Vancouver Canucks. Love 'em or hate 'em, they are what they are and I've had fun playing out season after season with the team. This is my personal history of the 25 seasons where I'll be making notes of player histories, rookie campaigns, trade histories, drafts and the occasional facepalm moment in the team's 25 years since beginning.

I will comment that I was completely new to EHM when I started this and wasn't aware of some of the bugs/issues that were around when the game began. Some players have made-up names, even at the start and some of the earlier trades wouldn't have worked out after the patch, but nonetheless, I've kept going, post-patch and made-up names from the start doesn't really matter after 20+ seasons. ;)

This then, is the history of "MY" Vancouver Canucks...

[sorry. This is going to start out fairly light with a number of What the Dickens? trades before things finally start getting really interesting... 25 seasons takes a while to get through ;)]

2007-08 - Season 2

Season Results: 51 W 28 L 3 O/SL
Awards Given: Roberto Luongo, 2nd Team All-Star
  • Notes:
  • I wasn't happy with Alain Vigneault, so at the end of our playoff run (a 4-0 sweep by San Jose in the Western Conference Final), I let him go. 4 days later, I hired on Peter Laviolette.
  • Not sure what I saw in Mikael Holmqvist or if it was karma working against me after pillaging Pittsburgh on so many occasions, but I lost Holmqvist to waivers and he went back to Anaheim after playing only 10 games for the Canucks (10 1-0-1). Chicago took my 1st round pick and grabbed Aaron Rooney. I got back my 3rd round pick for 2007 and chose Nick Ross. More on them later, obviously, plus a look at what happened to Mikael Holmqvist.
