Started unemployed - Job offers
I seem to always play this way, start unemployed and as 'rec-player' as that is what I am.. usually I get the same old boring(because i've done this so much) offers. Them being any team in the UK, a few Finnish div 2 teams and any Norway based team and a Danish team...
Last night I loaded a game, did the same unemployed, rec-player but decided this time to put French as my second nationality.. I am part French but I don't speak it fluently so don't like to be able to in game but I thought why not it might help me sign some Canadians... yet this time my job offers are different.. I applied for all the jobs like usually but I get replies from Chicago Hounds in the CHL, 2 teams in the Swedish Allsvenska and another I forget that was of a decent level? Is this because of putting French as my nationality too?
To note I only ever use the TBLDB so the original database with no changes only to some player/team/arena names, start date as Aug 2006. For the record I took the job at Bjorkloven in Swe-2

What teams have you played with in Norway? And how did you do? Did you like playing in that league?

If you are bored with the same old offers why don't you try another db?

Hey Wroom. I played as Frisk-Asker. I enjoyed it alot yes, Very open league, as in all the teams are of an equal enough standing regarding the players they sign and things like that. The season isn't too long either which was good. Not to make myself sound like some great EHM player, I've had really terrible seasons on this game. Boston Bruins I lost 62 games in a season! But with Frisk-Asker I turned them untouchable over a 3 year game! Pal Grotnes was my main man, his stats seemed low on the game but he played great for the 3 years I did with Frisk. I tried and tried to bring Vikingstad back home to Norway but, well I couldn't afford him and he didn't like that haha!Wroom wrote:What teams have you played with in Norway? And how did you do? Finances are/were tight though. In my final season I built my team, It was impressive too but I literally had just enough players to ice the lines and that was it. I'd overspent brining in the best guys I could, which was abit stupid really. So I decided to move on after 2 titles to Austria.

Hey Manimal. It's not really my thing to use the edited db's. Nothing against you guys that make and use them. I have a save with one of your dbs still. Try to use the Islanders and make them a European only NHL team, and yeah it didn't go very well haha.Manimal wrote:If you are bored with the same old offers why don't you try another db?
I just found it strange how adding French got me extra and better jobs offers. Is it because French is an important hockey language? I couldn't see something like that being implemented into the game, but we never know, Riz is a genius after all!

Well at the time this game was made, it was quite unrealistic in a sense that through the last 20 years, there were always only 2-3 teams fighting for the championship every year, usually the same couple of teams. So, it was made quite more open in this game. Though, it has to be said that the league in 2012 is quite more opened up, and there are more competitive teams now than before. Making it quite similar to the game.gazzw87 wrote:Hey Wroom. I played as Frisk-Asker. I think it's kind of interesting handling the difficult financial situation. I've played with Storhamar, Frisk-Asker and Vålerenga. Though, it's a long time ago.
I can't understand how you managed to lose 62 games with Boston, I think they have a good team on the game.

Yeah the Boston thing was very early on in my EHM adventure. I made it to the Islander in one save but couldn't do much with them either! I always try and go 'euro' only it seems in the NHL when building a roster but it obviously never works haha!Well at the time this game was made, it was quite unrealistic in a sense that through the last 20 years, there were always only 2-3 teams fighting for the championship every year, usually the same couple of teams. Valerenga are the main team are they not? Mangerlund* star always showed up to annoy people aswell during my time. I watch some of the Norway league highlights every now and theN thanks to EHM!
I love the lower leagues, especially the financial side. Like do you sacrifice balance and say $30k of your wage budget to sign the ex NHL-er and hope he dominates for you or do you let him go to the rivals and hope your balanced approached works out! Then from that, I love seeing what jobs offers come in after the seasons. I got the Team GB job after making my way from unemployed to the Russian Superleague. Although they'd just gotten relegated so was unplayable haha, But I appreciated the chance

Vålerenga are the main team yes. They are like the Montreal Canadiens of Norway. Won something like 25+ titles. The next team is at 6 I think. Manglerud/Star is always either the youngest team in the league or among the youngest teams. Unfortunately because of that, they got relegated this season that was. Next season, for the first time ever. Tønsberg Vikings will be in the Get League. And Stavanger Oilers will be playing in a new NHL-sized rink.gazzw87 wrote:Yeah the Boston thing was very early on in my EHM adventure. Thanks for the info. Are you Norwegian then? The Oilers have a very professional image, and I just noticed they did quite well too! Just had a look at the Vikings, you have to love anything Viking related and their logo is great, might have to be 'my team' so I can have a better interest in the league! Also thanks to you Im going to end up scrapping my Bjorloven save and starting over and taking a Norway job again later!Wroom wrote: Vålerenga are the main team yes. The Oilers have in the recent years gotten a "sugar-daddy" that really wants to develop sports in the Rogaland-area(that's one of Norway's 19 states(named counties)). So he has payed for several developmental stuff for several sports-teams in the area. Including a new stadium and budget for the hockey team. And their Head Coach is Petter Thoresen, the father of KHL-player Patrick Thoresen. He won the Norwegian Championship with his third Norwegian team. Storhamar and Vålerenga being the other two.
I'll say that playing with Storhamar Dragons is fun in the game. I used some great canadians at the blueline and Christian Larivee as center. Stats weren't all that, but he played great. I can also say that on the game, Vålerenga I believe is the richest, as they were at the time the game was made.
It is also known that Sparta Warriors is the Hockeytown of Norway. Only place were hockey is the major sport among fans. Lillehammer might be only other were the hockey-team clearly is the best.

Wroom thanks for the info, I appreciate it all! The Oilers do look like they have some money behind them. What's the trend on Norway hockey then? Is it growing, declining or just going along nice and steady? It seems as if hockey in Norway is popular in the towns that it's played but not say 'nation-wide'? But i'd pick watching GET-Ligen over our Elite Ice Hockey League any day!Wroom wrote: Yes, I am Norwegian.

It's growing for sure. From the Get League having 2 competetive teams each year to 5.gazzw87 wrote:Wroom thanks for the info, I appreciate it all! That is about right. It's the most popular in areas were it is already played in. Though, it's slowly expanding.
Maybe were it has developed the most is in the youth area. A couple of more athletic schools were also people can apply to play hockey. Lillehammer, Tønsberg and the Oslo-based teams (Vålerenga/Manglerud-Star/Lørenskog).
This year the Youth divisions changed age groups so players get one extra year of junior eligibility. Going from U17/U19 to U18/U20.
Got some new teams in the south and in the north. Narvik being one of them, is getting into the tier 2, going from playing in the Swedish tier 4 (because of location and easier travel).
