No I am not this league's Brian Burke. You are.
Did you not make a good team bad? Heh.
OH and what about the awards for this past season? Stinson never got them out...so I guess Manimal has to.

Pff, people like me 'cause they can steal my players in trades, not very Burkesque.batdad wrote:No I am not this league's Brian Burke. You are.

I wrote that I made my team brutal in one season, nothing else. I was self-ironic.

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2011-12
I know that....I was taking a dig at Burke.
If you had seen my team after the first and second season draft...wow...what a horrible roster. It is shocking to me that I am still at the top of the league. But I am...and it is for a reason. Some teams just don't get how fantasy works, and will only trade for proven goalscorers. They just do not get that a guy like Bourque (two years ago, not last year) and a guy like Burrows...are really top line FANTASY hockey players.
Nor do they get that a guy like BRent Seabrook is AS VALUABLE as a guy like Erik Karlsson. Karlsson allows you to win the goals category and assists category each and every week. Seabrook allows you to win just as many categories...because he is a shot blocker, and a PIM guy to some extent. Also...on the PP and gets SH ice time.
People just see the glory guys...not the right things about players. Bieksa is a very valuable defenseman.
People always tell me...well I am sorry you are ripping me off in shots in that trade. EVen when tehy get the answer...but look at PIM's where you are ripping me off...or look at the team he plays for and plus minus (IE Trading two players of equal value in all things except one plays for Wings/Bruins/Canucks and other plays for CBJ, Toronto, Florida)....the guy who is gettting the Wing, Bruin or Nuck is likely getting the better of the deal.
Trying to think of an example but off the top of my head I cannot. Versteeg for Burrows is one (save for PIMs). Put up the same kind of points, play pp, play sh...same kind of shot total....all similar....but Burrows is higher value because is Canuck. Some guys will say...no VERSTEEG has more points he is more valuable. Nope. He does not win as many categories for you.
Guys will look at the fantasy leaders---and say that guy is more valuable...nope.
Ovenchicken outshoots everyone by 10 shots each week. Who cares? you only need to win the shots by 1. So he is overkill in the shots and you lose out in other areas because you value his shot total so highly.
Luongo--Goals against averrage, save percentage suck. But ....he plays, he wins, he makes saves. That is all that matters. Guys are undervaluing him big time because of this right now. They are just reading media on him....and not thinking.
Why did I win most of my games last year? Because of my two goalies plus the rotating third. Mason was bitched and moaned about by many guys. But he played and makes saves...that is what matters. Not that he let in 8 goals.

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2011-12
Oh, you're right on with Burkie-boy, and sadly me in that aspect.
Burrows was a bad move yes, but it wasn't because I over-valued point scoring, it was due to me failing to tell the future. Due to all the scrambling Canucks had before I made the trade it looked like Burrows was kind of the odd man out and that they tried other players in his place and therefore his future was uncertain. Sadly for I gambled wrong to trade him when his value was a bit lower than usual but I expected it to go even lower so I went desperate.
You stole him from me but it was all my fault due my that my gambling move went wrong, so no hard feelings. I can only hope that the chain of trades I made bear fruit next season or else I'm screwed.

Trading Block: Ribeiro, Semin, Vrbata, Mike Green, Seidenberg. They are available for the right price.

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2011-12
I think we need to keep 6 forwards if I remember right.
6-3-1
KeepersL Marleau, Burrows, Carter, Selanne, Callahan, Versteeg, Seabrook, Bieksa, Visnovsky, Niemi
AVail: O'Reilly, Doan, Versteeg (yep can move him), Salo, Luongo, and anybody else on my roster.

I can't decide on my last players to keep, so I can make trades if you guys find anything interesting.

IMO when you're claiming things like you're the only one that knows what you're doing and others are afraid to trade with you you come across as Burke-like...batdad wrote:No I am not this league's Brian Burke. You are.

We need to make comparisons to real life GM's for everyone. Batdad, you are Burke with two votes so far.

With his success Batdad's probably more like (historical) Sam Pollock than Burke...but you probably meant we need to make comparisons to modern GMs! HaHavisualdarkness wrote:We need to make comparisons to real life GM's for everyone

Haha, narrowing it down would be good yeah. Batdad is for sure the most outspoken one at least. I guess I will get a panicking kind of GM.nino33 wrote:With his success Batdad's probably more like (historical) Sam Pollock than Burke...but you probably meant we need to make comparisons to modern GMs! I dont claim to be the only one. There are others....Manimal, Corinthians, Marsac.....but some are definitely better than others. BTW--ALL three of those guys have made trades with me, and even some of them have won them.
Others--not so much. Mainly because they do not grasp how it works. THere are guys with well below 500 records that have....on paper....what should be better hockey teams than I have. BUT...they are NOT better FANTASY hockey teams.
Burke claims he is better than other GMs? I dunno. Surely not claiming he is better than his mentor Leaping Lou Lamoreillo, or Holmgren.

Glad to hear!...batdad wrote:I dont claim to be the only one. There are others
I can't imagine this myself, maybe that's my problem...batdad wrote:Others--not so much. Mainly because they do not grasp how it works.
The comment was flippant ...I'm not a big Burke fan myself, but it's not correct of me to say he claims he's better than other GMsbatdad wrote:Burke claims he is better than other GMs? I dunno.

Does anyone know when ESPN will let us back into the league? If you go to the league it says that the Fantasy Hockey section is down for maintenance...

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2011-12
The league is now up and running.
Marsac has sadly left the league due to personal issues(he is moving and starting on a new job and doubts he'll have amy time for the league).
Tinyheed has taken over his team. Welcome Simon (and Nino33 who has taken over former commissioner Stinson's team)
The league is now full.
However, the Minnesota Titans are on probation. If their activity does not improve greatly from last season, they will be kicked out. GM macdman has told me he has a better situation to be active this year.

Re: Minstrel Hockey League 2011-12
Hi! I was checking out the new page at ESPN and found out that you can add any new player you like.
I think that's a issue that should be taken care of. One example I look out for Yakupov and simply add him to my lineup, of course I already drop him.
We must avoid adding players to keep this league fair until draft day!

I will have a look and see if it can be done by me as commissioner.

I have now awarded TBL trophies to the top three teams from last season.
There is also a poll up on the league site.
Vote for the Masterton Trophy, awarded to the most dedicated manager

Atta boy Manimal. Need a Vezina winner and a Calder winner as well. Not sure who the rookie GMs were this year.
