Bringing up an old thread just to show the results of one of my 7th rounders. He was the FINAL pick in the draft...
Craig Bradley, 210th overall, 2012 NHL Entry Draft
He played several years in the minors...and has developed like this at age 23
Done very well in Manitoba and Victoria
I brought him up becuase he was cheap and could maybe fill a 4th line role. I had no idea I was getting a Rookie of the Month or Calder Trophy candidate, at age 23
Just goes to show, if you are patient...you have a chance with these guys. 1 year in college prior to draft, 5 in the minors.
It is early yet...but his first month in the NHL and he is Rookie of the Month. Will let you know.
Just so you know..only 7 games because was out for the first 7 with an injury.

It's never happen to me, but now my six round pick in 2012 is on fire! He play in the ECHL and done very well do far. I'm really happy to see that because i love develop my own player, i trade for a lot of pick at the draft to try to develop the most rookie possible. ( like 10 pick a draft )
A guy the flyers pick in 2010 in the fifth round goes very well, he already played 1 season in the NHL ( i'm in 2013-2014 ) and he won the calder!

I occasionally see a diamond. In my current game, a player by the name of Anton Demidov was drafted by the Hurricanes round 7, 203 overall in the 2012 draft. At this point in his career, he is 38 and has 1855 points in 1547 games including 879 goals. I did not draft him, but I did sign him when he was 26 and had several great years from him until cap restrictions forced me to trade him. My own success is I can often get a mid second to third round player to be a great first line player.
The thing is, you actually have to try to draft and develope players, not just get the obvious pick (especially since I see so many 1st overalls bust). That is how to actually enjoy the game.

It happen quite often to see Hasek regen been pick in the 3rd round and +. Because he got often a bad det. and work rate he never develop. Me i draft him 3rd overall in the 2010 draft and now he is my #1, he got a 15 det, and a 19 work rate. So luck was on my side.LoXish wrote:Yeah, I know... that's why I was surprised I missed him... Im not sure. I haven't played enough seasons yet to really know how much det and work rate effect the final outcome. I just drafted him so we'll see how he develops.philou21 wrote:darn calm down with your 3 post reply mrt3991.
So does your Hasek regen develop well instead of bad overall?
I did have a 6th rounder from the '09 draft become a pretty solid checking line center for me. So fars he's netted 10-25 goals per year on the 3rd line. With a 7.35 AVR so far in his 4 years in the NHL

I just started playing 2007 after playing 2005 for a very long time.
After one season I might go back already. Looked like a better game at first but now that I see the draft and how the trades go, I don't like it. Sure I can prevent unfair trades but in 2005 you can find good players at every round that can develop to decent players. I don't like how the ratings look even for the first round picks.
You can't exploit trades like this in whatever version of 2005 I have. Its great how some teams won't trade their 1st overall pick for everything, give them 5 draft picks, 3 superstars, and still sorry no. lol
I'm in the year 2052 in 2005 and still having fun,
2007 I'm with the pens first year and getting ready to draft 1st, 2nd 4th overall, I did finish last overrall so at least one is fair. ha
I thought the trades would be similar fair till I saw that tampa aggreed to trade a 1st for a 4th rounder and jay cambell. What the Dickens
I'll see how the salary cap prevents me from having a stacked team, i know it did in 2005.

I just looked through some of the past drafts in one of my saves, and sorted by reputation. There were quite a few players from the 3rd-5th rounds that are now solid NHL players.
Derry Joly
This one defenseman impressed me the most though, so I had to post a screenshot.
I also got 2 pretty good players from later rounds
Daniel Dahlen
1st line LW
Kris Parkinson
3rd line RW

Re: Any value to lower draft picks?
Bumping up this thread with few of my later round picks.
Gleb Ivanov & Janne Saarinen Two 3rd rounder defensemen from 2021. 2026-2027 was the first season in the NHL for both of them, Saarinen won Calder trophy while Ivanov was runner-up.
Antonio Thörn Decent two-way forward drafted in the 5th round. Played two seasons in Allsvenskan and two with Iowa chops before brought up.
Günther Kahn Last but not least, my current second line winger drafted in the 7th round. After being drafted he spent two more seasons in Germany and three in AHL.

Haha, kind of funny. Since Janne Saarinen was a real left back in football. Among the teams he played for was Rosenborg and 1860 Munich. I think he just retired a couple of years ago.Astmakameli wrote:Bumping up this thread with few of my later round picks.

Not sure if you realized Astmakameli but Saarinen is Pitkanen and Kahn is Sturm

I love to play the game exactly as any GM would in real life. This means no unrealistic trades .. but the game is yours and do anything you want.
Nothing beats a late round pick that plays well in your team ...
