It is a lot to give up but if you get the 2006 Playoff Edition Pronger not the early 2006 season Pronger it's worth it and it stamps Anaheim as a serious contenders while I would only have put them somwhere's around 'solid playoff potential' before this deal.

But then I really like Lupul... and Smid has been talked of as being a Top 10 prospect at D and is 6'3" at only 20 so it is chopping away a lot of potential for a 'finished product'.

Pronger and Niedermayer in the same team? Poor forwards... It'll be hard to score against them,as Bryzgalov and Giguere seem to still be Ducks goalies next year...
Is Pronger's a present to celebrate the team's new logo and new name? If so,it's a really nice present!
Their new logo is a bit ugly i think... Not really the logo by himself, but the colours are lifeless
However,it looks more serious than the precedent one, even if he was funny...

I personally think they dropped the ball on the re-logo front... "Let's make the D in ducks out of a duck's foot! That'll make everyone take us seriously!!" They'd have done better hooking up with kids at the local schools and having a design contest to pick a new logo
At least they finally have a name compliant with the rest of the league; Team Location followed by Team Name. So every media outlet covering the team no longer needs to deal with the team's legal trademarked name being The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim instead of Anaheim Ducks. It was that part that always made me
more than having the cartoon logo and the Disney Movie Marketing tie-in.

A good deal there getting Pronger in. The defence at Anaheim is looking pretty strong even after that addition.
I haven't gained a full understanding for these conditional draft picks. what is these conditons? Is it if ducks get into the play offs oilers get their first round pick.
The Ducks have a fair bunch of rookies coming through and I think it makes sense to get good experience and presence which Pronger can give. Lupul is a descent player but expendible for a deal like this and there is a good forward presence there and just needs a bit more experience added to get the balance.

Now, take this with an absolute grain of salt, cause it's probably BS. I heard from a guy who's good friends with one of the owners of the Flames organization (get that one?) that the reason Pronger wanted out of Edmonton is because he got a local weather girl pregnent, and his wife found out. To get back at him, she supposedly slept with another member of the Oilers organization (I was told Hemsky). This is turning into a right old soap opera.
But like I said, I wouldn't be surprised if that whole story was BS, so don't go around yelling about its truthiness.
